but there's still a lot of work happening on and off campus. meanwhile, the person responsible for the contamination remains a mystery. ((karen castro)) for the third day, classes have been canceled at johnson junior high school... but a constant flow of foot traffic is coming through the campus. some parents are picking up items that were confiscated on wednesday, when a mercury contamination was first reported. ((brook woods concerned parent: they took like everything, the backpack with shoes and socks, their lunch pail so we're hoping to get it back.)) ((karen castro)) other families are bringing in personal belongings to be scree ((janet hill concerned parent: the more you read about things that's what made me come up today and just have you know, everything tested and just make sure everything is ok.)) ((karen castro)) since thursday, at least 100 parents have brought items to the school for inspection. according to the epa only a handful had to be further evaluated. meanwhile off campus, at least 75 homes have been assessed. ((jennifer ferran epa inspected home: they called and asked for permission. it wasn't forced inspection but they called and asked and said for the safety of the children we want to come by and scan your house.)) a family is out of their home after high levels of mercury were found over the weekend. ((steve calanog epa: we're in the process of contacting the property, property owner to begin negotiations and discussions on how to remediate the, the conditions at that house.)) ((karen castro)) the epa is not saying if the home is the source of the chemical, leaving parents questioning how a quarter of a cup of mercury made it onto campus ((janet hill concerned parent: im looking for answers, i need answers at this point. jennifer ferran epa inspected home: if they're not prepared to handle a situation next time something happens? brook woods concerned parent: i feel like they are covering something up.)) vegas neighborhood last night... could've ended much differently. the crash happened on torrey pines near charleston. katie boer spoke with the family who lives there.. and were feet from where the crash happened. ((katie boer)) dave...pretty hard to miss where that ford pickup truck crashed into a bicyclist before plowing into this cement wall. birthday party outside--some of them standing just two to three feet from where that truck entered. this is what's left of the munoz' family's backyard birthday parts and concrete cinder blocks from their backyard wall scattered across the lawn--one even landing in this salad platter. out 09:01 because she was inside and just heard a loud noise 09:05 )) that loud noise was this pickup truck -- police say collided into, a male bicylist before plowing through the family's brick wall sunday night. ((09:26 priscilla: the car was literally up to where the tarp is coming in :31 --- stitch --- :35 where you see that tire mark :37 )) priscilla munoz and her family members were celebrating a 21st birthday party. at the time.... ten children we ((priscilla: 12:05 i was just surprised none of it hit the bouncy house where the kids were :08 )) ((priscilla: 12:10 literally right where that carpet is...they were inside :13 )) her sister leslie standing next to it--about three feet from this now gapping hole in her backyard. was just freaking out :14)) that bike rider alive and hyperventalating in their backyard....later died after being transported to the hospital---a traumatic night this family says could have been even worse. ((katie boer)) that bicyclist has been identified as 42-year old jeremy clark. according to the family that lives here... police told them ...-- luis ag the wheel when it happened. the driver was arrested for hit and run and driving under the influence-- although now that the bike rider he hit has died--those charges could change. reporting live, i'm kbo. interstate 11 has been underway for nearly a year a half... and construction on some parts are well ahead of schedule. patrick walker shows us the progress crews are making on the new freeway between henderson and the hoover dam. this will soon be your view... driving on the new interstate 11 between henderson and the hoover dam. hundreds of workers and dozens of pieces of heavy equipment have put the two-phase project in t are carving out a whole new interstate through the middle of the desert.")) ((patrick walker/reporting:"the freeway is being built in two parts, the first part here on the east side of us 95 is being managed by the rtc, the other part, about 2.5 miles, is being managed by ndot, all the way to henderson.")) ((patrick walker)) the 318-million dollar... 15-mile long project was originally scheduled for completion in late fall of 2018. n-dot's portion of the project is 60 percent complete... and spokesman tony illia says they expect to wrap up

((patrick walker)) the freeway will bypass boulder city... but includes a fly-over ramp from southbound i-11 to u-s 93 ... the current route through town. the bypass is expected to be a time-saver... cutting up to a half-hour off the trip from las vegas to destinations in arizona. right now... 34-thousand vehicles -- many of them tractor-trailors -- travel the new interstate is designed to handle that traffic... and future growth... which backs up daily in boulder city. ((dave courvoisier)) >> the r-t-c says construction of their portion of the interstate is "on time"... scheduled for full completion in october 2018. but cars could be allowed on the freeway almost a half-year earlier...

((dave courvoisier)) we also want to update you on a project in the northwest. the "centennial bowl" first broke ground in august of last year... and is now in phase 3. one part of that is already complete... the ramp from northbound 95 onto eastbound 215. still under construction... the connector ramp from westbound 215 to southbound 95. phase 3a is expected to be complete next year./// ((denise valdez)) key personnel from more than a dozen police and fire agencies were honored today for their bravery and sacrifice. 8 news now anchor paul their amazing stories. ((michelle mortensen)) well, if i've said it once ... i've said it a million times. scammers are clever ... and their latest trick could cost you your job. every day is octoberfest ... at the german club of nevada ... ((michelle mortensen)) but the party almost stopped because of a nasty scam hitting many businesses, non profits and clubs across the nation. it's known as the boss scam ... and this is why... ((ingrid: i recieved an email from president steve ... )) ((michelle mortensen)) it started with an email ... like many scams do.

ingrid stewart the club treasurer ((ingrid: he said you need to help me transfer some money. )) ((michelle mortensen)) not even an odd request .. according to ingrid as they had just finished a parking lot addition and needed to pay close to 7 grand for the job ... so when the email asked for 6900 ((ingrid: there were no warning bells ... no warning bells going off. )) ((michelle mortensen)) but a twist of fate saved ingrid from making the transfer. by chance she got a text from the real president and leanred it was all a scam. ((michelle: we're you were? ingrid: i was totally impressed? )) ((michelle mortensen)) hindsight being 20 -20 ... ingrid figured out how the scammer s targeted her. the club kept all of their finacials ... along with board members names, emails and phone numebrs on their website making it very easy to spoof the information. the club has since made lots of changes to their site to protect themselves from scammers ... and keep the party going. since october 2013. so how can you protect yourself andyour company? first -- if you get an email from your boss asking youto pay a bill or tansfer money .. call them to confirm it. second -- look for misspelling or awkward language ... signs it make have been translated poorly from another language. and third ... hit reply and see if a different email pops up. if it does ... th scam.
