8 news now good day, the valley's thanks for joining us on 8 news now good day, the valley's news leader. i'm kirsten joyce. authorities are investigating what motivated a naturalized u-s citizen from afghanistan to allegedly carry out a series of weekend bombings in new york and new jersey. ((brian loftus)) >> i'm brian loftus. police captured ahmad khan rahami after a shootout bail. diane gallagher is live at the hospital where rahami is being held in newark, new jersey. ((diane galalgher)) >> police took ahmad khan rahami into custody monday afternoon ... after a tip from a citizen. rahami is now facing five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in addition to weapons-related charges. a massive investigation now extends from new york to to three cities in new jersey.
seaside park, new jersey, now in custody ... new questions emerge. authorities say they want to know ahmad khan rahami's motive ... and whether he was working alone. the 28-year-old was taken into custody monday, after the n-y-p-d and f-b-i asked the public for help in finding him. rahami was detained just a few hours later, when a bar owner in linden new jersey spotted him and alerted authorities. (harinder bains/ bar owner) "i saw his face, when he moved his hoodie. it, like, kind of shocked me because i was watching cnn on my laptop and you guys have his picture on site, like, on a site. i like, very familiar, to the same guy." another new jersey resident captured the moments just before the confrontation with authorities. rahami walks towards police pointing a weapon and then ... gunfire. the bar owner who first spotted rahami ... a witness to the dramatic scene. shaking a little, when cop pulled out his gun, at that point in time i realized, ok this is the guy." sources say ramani -- a naturalized u-s citizen from afghanistan -- is "directly linked" to the bombings. he's believed to be seen on surveillance cameras near the chelsea bombing site saturday night. saturday's explosion left 29 people injured. all have been released from the hospital. ((diane galalgher)) the two new jersey police officers wounded in the shootout were not seriously hurt. officers wounded in the shootout were not seriously hurt. rahami was captured just three hours after officials sent out a massive cell phone alert with the suspects name and picture to millions of people in new york and new jersey . it's believed to be the first time the nation's wireless emergency alert system was used to send out an electronic wanted poster. reporting live from new york cnn diane gallagher ((kirsten joyce)) we're also learning about the man who stabbed several people at a minnesota mall saturday. authorities say dahir adan stabbed 10 people before an off-duty police officer shot and killed him. adan -- a private security firm employee -- reportedly had a
touch with his family say he was acting strangely before the incident. an attorney for adan's family issued a statement yesterday. >> abwabdulwahid osman, attorney for adan's family: we urge the citizens of st. cloud, and this state, to stay united and let the law enforcement agencies gather the facts and do their work. ((kirsten joyce)) >> an isis-linked news agency praised adan as a quote "soldier of the islamic state.f the terror group's claim. all of the victims have been released from the hospital./// ((brian loftus)) two people are recovering after a shooting at mccarran international airport yesterday evening. metro police arrested the suspected shooter late last night at the v-a medical center in north las vegas. 8 news now was first on scene at the airport and witnessed a woman being rushed to the hospital. police say the suspect shot her and another man just before 6 p-m near the sixth floor parking garage.
the woman. the victims were returning to las vegas from a recent trip. both were taken to sunrise hospital in stable condition. according to police. 25 year-old jessica sanchez died following the crash at charleston and maryland . sanches was a passenger in 19 year-old raul espinoza's car. police say he was impaired and ran a red light at high speed. espinoza remains jailed on a felony charge of d-u-i resulting in substantial bodily injury./// ((kirsten joyce)) get ready for more cone zones! yesterday... local leaders
construction project to widen a stretch of i-15. the interstate will be widened between craig road and the speedway. it will cost 34 million dollars to expand that stretch of highway from four to six lanes. this should help clear congestion to and from the speedway for events such as nascar and the electric daisy carnival. the project is expected to take two years. at least two lanes of i-15 will remain open during construction./// ((demetria obilor)) there are lane closures on the airport connector project. expect some delays in the area. there's a lot of repaving work happening at flamingo and us 95. there may be some restrictions on the westbound flamingo ramp to northbound 95 until 5:30am.

((kirsten joyce)) another, video from another deadly police shooting is sparking outrage across the country. investigating a white officer in tulsa, oklahoma... in the shooting of unarmed black man, terence crutcher. newly-released video shows crutcher had his hands in the air before he was killed on friday. officers responded to his stalled vehicle and just seconds later, one used a taser on him. police said crutcher was told to show his hands but didn't follow demands. the man's family says police chopper video shows they pre-judged him: (( chopper audio" "that looks like a bad dude, too") dr. tiffany crutcher/twin sister: "you all want to know who that big bad
bad dude was a father." )) ((kirsten joyce)) >> crutcher was not armed and there was no gun in his vehicle. tulsa's police chief has promised transparency in the investigation. officer betty shelby, who opened fire, has been put on paid leave./// ((kirsten joyce)) a naval officer appears in court charged with trying to rape a college woman. when u-s navy commander john michael neuhart yesterday police say neuhart was tried to sexually assault the woman inside her san diego home a neighbor who heard the screams called 9-1-1 and yelled that he was doing so. police arrived to find a man running away from the home. neuhart is a married man and a commander in the u-s navy. he was in san diego for training the night of the incident./// ((brian loftus)) wells fargo bank is continuing to deal with their bank fraud issues. this coming bank employees collecting fees from millions of unauthorized customer accounts.
the bank of invasion of privacy... fraud... negligence.... plaintiffs are asking for compensation to cover damages related to identity theft.. anxiety.. and legal fees. the u-s house financial services committee launches an investigation into the bank after it was caught opening fake bank and credit card accounts for customers over the past 5 years./// ((kirsten joyce)) roger goodell doesn't seem happy about the raiders possibly moving to las vegas.
