outside the family's home this morning.and said he'd called the fbi two years ago. i tell them you got a connection with this guy investigators are now piecing together clues about his 28-year old son and what might have driven him to bombings in new york and new jersey over the weekend. sources tell cbs news they've recovered a handwritten note and a notebook. the writings reveal he may have been radicalized. (james o'neill/nypd commissioner) "as far as acting alone, that's part of the investigation// they're going to look at his friends andf his phones the suspect was on the run for just 50 hours before police arrested him in a shootout in new jersey. investigators say he'd left a trail of clues, including both fingerprints and dna. his face was captured by surveillance cameras near the bombing in manhattan, which injured 29 people. rahami is a u-s citizen, born in afghanistan. cbs news has learned he traveled recently to afghanistan at least three times and at least once to pakistan. charges. video from a tulsa police chopper shows 40-year-old terence crutcher walking toward his suv.. with his hands in the air.. as officers surround him. they were responding to a 911 call about an abandoned vehicle. it's difficult to see exactly what happened as crutcher approached the driver's side window of his suv but police say he was not cooperating. he was hit with a taser.. then shot seconds later: (( chief chuck jordan/tulsa, ok police dept) "i'm going to tell you right here and now, there was no gun on the suspect or in the suspect's vehicle.")) ((kirsten joyce)) some protests - and police are promising a thorough investigation. the department of justice has also opened an investigation./// ((kirsten joyce)) the lake mohave reservoir will drop seven feet for fish conservation efforts. federal land managers... plan to harvest razorback sucker fish from shoreline ponds. it is part of an annual effort to restore the endangered fish to it's native habitat in the colorado river. the reservoir will stay lowered for a few weeks.///

a couple....returni ng from a trip from indianapolis and that brown had a past relationship with the female victim. hours after the shooting...brown was caught at the v-a hospital in north las vegas. as of this morning he is in the clark county detention center and faces five charges: among them....attempted murder....discha rging a firearm in a prohibited area and assault with a deadly weapon. the airport bureau commander says this was an isolated incn was a case of domestic violence. flights weren't affected but the parking garage was closed for several hours during the investigation. both victims were taken to sunrise hospital where they're now in stable condition. no bail has been set for brown's attempted murder charges. >> he's scheduled to appear in court tomorrow morning at 7-30./// ((kirsten joyce)) the obama administration issued new rules for self driving cars and trucks this morning. the rules give companies a wide latitude to develop new technology. the new policy includes a 15-point safety assessment.

also developed a five-level scale to assess just how automated the vehicles are. minimum federal safety standards still need to be established./// ((kirsten joyce)) in 2011 nevada became the first state to legalize self driving vehicles... starting with the google car. in order to get a permit from the dmv to test here... cars have to have already driven 10-thousand miles.. and follow safety rules. at least four companies have licenses to test here... ((kirsten joyce)) for those driving their cars themselv. wasting billions of dollars at the pump every year... on higher grade gas. the report says drivers un-necessarily upgraded from regular to premium 272 million times in the past year. john nielsen says it is easy to believe that something labeled premium sounds like a treat... but that is not actually the case: (( john nielsen/aaa) "but the truth is if your car is designed to run on regular gasoline, using the premium fuel or the 93 octane isn't going to make it run better, have better fuel economy, or have lower

torrential rain is causing landslides and flooding as a storm it makes it's way toward eastern japan. typhoon malakas has been downgraded to a tropical storm. about 700-thousand people were advised or ordered to evacuate their homes. one person is reported missing.. and 3 dozen others have been injured. officials expect more mudslides... floods.. and tornadoes as the storm makes it's way towards tokyo.///
