((brian loftus)) metro police are trying to figure out whether the man accused of shooting and killing a person inside starbucks over the weekend ... knew the victim. ((kirsten joyce)) >> this all happened sunday at the starbucks near rainbow and warm springs. the alleged gunman .. 34 year old pedro garcia is due in court r burglary and weapons charges. investigators say garcia went into the store after his card was declined at the drive- thru ... and got into an argument with the 41 year old victim and shot him. police say the victim was not an employee. investigators say garcia then evacuated the business with the crowd .. and even called in a fake suspect description.. but was quickly arrested./// ((kirsten joyce)) meanwhile .. a memorial is growing at the starbucks .. employees were told the coffee shop will reopen today at noon.

counseling session to help employees cope. we spoke with one workers .. who was manning the register when the suspect walked in. william wright describes garcia as suspicious but calm.... and he took cover in a back room with other employees once shots were fired: ((william wright starbucks employee: we were all packed in there. i was calming everyone down saying look it's as simple as that, if he comes in, we bash him. )) ((kirsten joyce)) >> wright says they used a refrigerator to block the door. they stayed in the room for close to an hour until police escorted them out. ((brian loftus)) a las vegas man wil thousand dollars as part of a settlement from metro. lawrence gordon was shot nearly 4 years ago when officer jacquar roston mistook a shiny sticker on gordon's hat... for a gun. following an investigation -- a metro's use of force board reccommended roston lose his job. however... doug gillespie.. the sheriff at the time -- decided that an apology and suspension was enough. in turn.. a handful of those on the board resigned... saying their job was pointless if the sheriff was going to ignore them.///

killed in her home has been identified. the coroner says the victim was 30- year old amanda kaplan. metro police say she died after being stabbed early saturday morning ... at her home near sunset and boulder highway. three children were at home at the time... those kids are now in the care of child protective services. henderson pokice arrested 48 year old michael kaplan... who was living with her at the time.. henderson police had not been called to the home for any

((kirsten joyce)) we're learning more about yesterday morning's house fire in henderson that displaced 2 people. fire investigators say it all started from an unattended candle. neighbors and a henderson police officer patrolling the area spotted the fire near gibson and 215. firefighters were able to put it out fairly quickly. a woman suffered minor injuries on her hands... the cause of the fire has been deemed accidental... with damages close to 400- thousand dollars. /// ((brian loftus)) new calls for change in >> the city leaders protesters want to resign ... after a deadly police shooting. ((brian loftus)) nine people are recovering... after a houston, texas lawyer opened fire in his neighborhood. po randomly at drivers... and was wearing historic military- style clothing... that had a nazi emblem as well as military items dating back to civil war. investigators say they also found a car full of weapons near the shooting scene. police were able to kill the man... a woman in the area heard the gunshots.... and seconds later heard tires screeching from her husband's car from outside their apartment: (( jen melida/husband shot at: "i called and asked, did you see the shooter? he said, i'm hit, i'm hit jen. he's crying i'm crying, we're going to hysterics."))

looking to hire workers for the holidays. ((brian loftus)) >> consumer advocate michelle mortensen shows us the early opportunities in today's on your side report. ((michelle mortensen)) now hiring for the holidays. industries affected by the gift-giving season -- have announced big plans to hire seasonal workers. people who typically get paid hourly -- and work from november through january. target says -- for the fourth year in a row -- it wants o its stores. the big box store is expecting more online orders this year -- so it wants to hire an additional 75-hundred people to work in the distribution and fulfillment facilities. that's roughly one thousand more people than last year. toys r us is also pushing to hire thousands of seasonal workers. and it could translate into something more permanent for some hires. the company says 15-to-20 percent of holiday workers in recent years keep working even
