at the pump .. you'll want to fill up more often. ((kirsten joyce)) >> consumer advocate michelle mortensen explains why you'll want to stop at the gas station .. no matter the price. ((michelle mortensen)) show of hands if you've ever driven around with your gas tann shinning brightly. we've all done it. but if you want to save money ... you'll never do it again after today. filling up and the pump can set you back a couple hundred bucks every single month depending on how much you drive. but not filling up enough .. can actually cost you more? why? turns out driving on a low fuel tank ... can lead to car damage. the gas in your car actually functions like coolant for the fuel pump motor ... so every time you drive on less than a quarter of a tank ... the pump can suck in air ..
6:16 am
that can be a pricey repair. and of course there's the obvious .. if you run out of gas .. and are stranded ... well ... tow trucks can cost you a pretty penny too. so while filling up frequently may feel like a drain on your wallet at the time .. it could keep more money in your wallet long term. ((michelle mortensen)) and if you want to start filling up more often ... and you want to fill up at the best price there are a ton of apps you can download on your phone to help you find the cheapest price. apps like gas buddy ... and route 4 me. free to download. now tomorrow we're going to free to download. now tomorrow we're going to keep the gas conversation going ... and talk about the best stations to buy gas at ... because not all stations are created equally. i'm michelle mortensen./// ((kirsten joyce)) >> if you have a consumer problem you'd like michelle to look into.. call the 8 on your side hotline at (702) 650-1907.///

((kirsten joyce)) every wednesday.. we sit down with sheriff joe lombardo.. for our morning cup of j for our morning cup of joe. he joined us for this previously recorded segment. ((brian loftus)) our first question coming in from scot he asked many timews when sitting on my patio in the evening, i notice a helicopter circling overhead with a big spotlight. i believe it's metro. it appears as if they are looking for somebodey, as opposed to hovering over an accident. should there be a way to notify the public you're looking for a felon using a helicopter?" sherrif joe lombardo: >>
6:41 am
work. it helps us during pursuits. it more than likely was a helicopter with a spotlight. as far as i know news helicopters don't act in that way. as far as a notification it's very hard to do so during an on going investigation. if it's more long term we have the ability to go out and reach the media and advise them about the there's also funcions like alert id which gives you a pretty quick response about what we are doing. but, as a matter of practice and policy it's on the officcers to notify others about the incident situation like a barricade where it could be three or four hours we go around and notify residents about what's going on. ((kirsten joyce)) >> and you do that going
6:42 am
sytem? sherrif joe lombardo: >> we don't have that in the clark county proper in regards to the robust system they do have some of the outline areas but as far as the robust system within clark county proper we don't have that. and this is an ongoing situation a lot of times they're looking and they may not have located somebody and they don't know the circumstances. so we don't want to notify people if we don't need too. panicked for those situations. ((brian loftus)) >> you don't want to notify the felon who is on the loose sherrif joe lombardo: >> you can think of that and take it at face value, but sometimes you want them to hunker down and not run. so we can easily locate them with k-9 dogs, with officers on foot. ((kirsten joyce)) >> very interesting.... sheriff karen long asked the following question: "why does it always take so long to get through on 311? the wait times
6:43 am
not longer, which is absolutely ridiculous. it has become very discouraging to even try calling when there are neighborhood disturbances or non-life threatening events." sherrif joe lombardo: >> i was a little distracted there. we should call 911 on those socks not 311, but 911. ((brian loftus)) >> they're response will be quick. laughing ((kirsten joyce)) >> aliright so she is saying it takes so long to get a response. it takes even an hou. >> and she's right i'm sure she's asked i"ve actuallyr reached out because i keep a continual update on the situation with dispatch. because we went through some issues with 911 because we did a software upgrade and we had a lot of troubles going through that process. but we got our arms wrapped around that and it's going well right now. but the unfortunate subsequent consequence of that is going through the personell. it's not equipment or software
6:44 am
we will be graduating 35 new dispatchers by tomorrow.. that will give us the light at the end of the tunnel after they go through training, but it is the result of human capitol we increase around 4 percent a year. but when you look at call volume we receive over 3 million calls a year. so it's unfortunate but they're reacing over 40 minutes for 311 which is unacceptable idealy it's one or two minutes we just want to get there but it's going to take some time.
