may have been a apart of a one- of- a kind- incident. this story made national headlines... in the video, you see 25- year- old alonso perez break his handcuffs... climb through the ceiling... and steal a truck to escape from the jail. perez is back in prison, but law enforcement from around the country say.. they can't recall any similar cases like this one. police here in southern nevada.. are double- checking equipment.. and reminding officers to keep what perez did.. to break the hinge on the handcuffs. they say the lesson learned... is people in custody should always be supervised. /// ((michael stevens)) and new information was released.. about the man shot and killed at a local starbucks, near rainbow and warm springs. according to a friend of the victim... aleksandr khutsishvili was an immigrant from the country of georgia... and says he once worked in long beach, california.

today, authorities in south carolina are trying to figure out..uthorities in what led to a school shooting. the gunman, who was a teenager... first shot and killed his own father.. before going to an elementary school.. where he shot a teacher and two students. the juvenile is now in custody... hena daniels has townville elementary remains close today and for the rest of the week...as investigators try to figure out what led a teenager to open fire on school grounds wednesday: (john skipper/ anderson county sheriff) did he have issues at school, did he have issues at home, we don't know but we're certainly going to run the gamut of everything. authorities say the 14-year-old suspect drove to the school yesterday, got out of his car....and started shooting at people on the playground with a handgun. frantic parents were sent an emergency text and rushed to the scene: (parent) the school

ems, we were told it was on lockdown, we saw helicopters coming in. a female teacher and two six-year-old boys, including jacob hall, were wounded. jamie brock, an unarmed volunteer firefighter, was one of the first on the scene... he tackled the teen....and held him down until police arrived. (scott stoller/ anderson county ems director) i don't think that there's anyone among us that doesn't believe firefighter brock is a hero to us and the whole community before the shooting....officials say the killed his father, jeffrey osborne, inside his home just three miles from the school. the teen then called his grandparents who discovered the body: (greg shore, anderson county coroner) "they couldn't understand why he was crying on the phone and they couldn't make sense of it. officials at the school are offering grief counseling to teachers and students... hena daniels cbs news. were treated at a hospital and released. /// ((kirsten joyce)) officials identifed the man.. who was shot and killed by a california police officer. police say 38- year- old alfred olango was fatally shot... after he pulled, what authorities now believe, was a vape smoking device from his pocket... and pointed it at officers... at the time they didnt' know what it was. this is cellphone video showing olango on the ground.. being treated after the shooting. police say his sister called 9-1-1 to help her brother... but he refused their commands when they arrived. sp does have a specially-trained mental health unit... but the first responding officers were not part of that. the killing has sparked protests for the last several days... with activists calling for a federal probe. /// ((kirsten joyce)) this deadly shooting is drawing attention.. to how law enforcement treats cases involving mentally ill people. here in nevada, metro police put emphasis on training for these types of situations. about 70- percent of metro police officers take part.. in the departments crisis intervention program.

crazy... speeding is always an issue. last week we talked about people who don't know when to yield right-of-way and this week it's u-turns.... "people have an issue with u-turning for whatever reason. they don't know whether they can or they can't. simply the rule is: if there's a sign posted with a u-turn symbol with a line through it, that is a universal symbol for 'do not make a u-turn.' "it is very prevalent in elementary schools. people like to drop their kids off across the street and then as soon as their kids are out of the car, no traffic laws, at all, seem to

they'll make the u-turns, they'll speed right through the school zone. i'll stop them, i'll say 'hi', i'll inform them via written citation of what they did wrong and they still don't know it 'cause for whatever reason that law hasn't been publicized a lot. the media hasn't made a big deal of it that i've heard. other people, when there is no sign, people like to make their u-turns if they have large trucks, if they have things they have to make nine-point turns to make the u-turn, that is also illegal. with a three lane road, it's about three to six feet wide. if your car can make a fluid u-turn within that six feet, it is 100 percent legal to do that. california police arrested a man.. after they say he tried to kidnap a store clerk. this is surveillance video... where the suspect grabbed the woman, and dragged her outside. an outside camera then car, but she tried to fight back. he opened the passenger seat, pushed her inside... and hit her a few times with a hammer. she then tried opening the back door to get out, but he closes it from inside. police say hours later, the woman managed to escape... and the man was later arrested. police say the two do not know each other. /// ((michael stevens)) metro police have
