((nia wong)) >> several lawmakers were on the fence about this bill...which led to a lot of vote-wrangling well into the afternoon. but despite major concerns ...it was eventually sent through. >> the key issue was about how this stadium was going to be funded. the 750 million dollars of public money going to the 1-point9 billion dollar stadium comes from an increase in the room tax. it required a 2/3rds majority in the legislature...me aning it needed 14 votes. it got 16. two key democrats...sena and assistant minority leader kelvin atkinson voted in favor of the bill. ((st. sen. kelvin atkinson/(d) las vegas: "there will be more money going to education, there will be a lot of other things from this that'll fund things in education.")) )) ((nia wong)) >> attached to senate bill 1 is also the 1-point 4 billion dollar convention center. that'll include a separate increase in the room tax.
