((sharie johnson)) suspect is accused of sexually assaulting a woman. thank you for joining us. i'm sharie johnson. it all started when police say this man... kenneth mcdonald... started shooting at random cars on i-15. 8 news now reporter brittany edney has been following the story all day. she joins us now live from outside the cvs near windmill and las vegas boulevard--where the suspect was arrested. ((brittany edney)) >> sharie--- police say, as of now, they know of at least 3
including the vehicle where one person died, another hurt. and the shooting led to a standoff here at this cvs---which investigators say came to and end with the help of a k-9 team. ((brittany edney)) for unkown reasons, police say a man opened fire on multiple cars on 1-15 a little after 9 a-m, saturday. a female passenger in her times and died a few hours later at u-m-c... the driver, a man in his 50's, was injured. ((lt. dan mcgrath, metro police "their car had hit the barrier at i-15 and spring mountain." )) ((brittany edney)) then at around 9-45-- police received a call about a man entering this c-v-s with two handguns. ((jim cook, witness "people were running out of the store screaming...i mean the first 3 minutes were a little chaotic" )) ((brittany edney)) investigators say the suspect pulled his pants down and tried

((brittany edney)) then, it looks like the man got on the ground with his hands up-- moments later, a k-9 unit was unleashed. ((lt. dan mcgrath, metro police "since he was not complying, they let the dog loose." ((brittany edney)) a decision, investigators say limited the liklihood of anyone else getting hurt. dan mcgrath, metro police "saved officers, and probably saved this person from being shot and killed if he reached into his pocket because we didn't know if he had a gun on him." ((brittany edney)) >> the suspect was taken to u-m-c for treatment for dog bites to his lower leg and thigh. investigators tell us he does have a criminal record and it's likely, he's affiliated with a gang. sharie. truck... and i'm told that driver pulled off the road and contacted authorities-- he's ok. another vehicle was hit with three bullets- and luckily, there were no injuries there either. we'll send it back to you./// ((sharie johnson)) this isn't the first time someone randomly opened fire at a driver on valley roads. in 2008... blanca gonzalez was shot and killed while waiting at a stoplight at nellis and charleston. blanca had her two children in her car ah calvin kirklin was arrested and sentenced in that shooting. he's eligible for parole in 20-19./// ((sharie johnson)) mother nature is adding fuel to a massive wildfire in northern nevada. the fire is only five- percent contained right now... and it's already destroyed 22 homes. firefighters are now trying to keep the 32- hundred acre blaze from jumping any major roads up in the washoe valley.
