today is the first day of early voting. that means you have until novemeber 4th to avoid the long lines on election day. brittany edney is at a polling site in the downtown area with a look at today's turnout. brittany? ((brittany edney)) after voter registartion closed last week registered democrats outnumber republicans by about 90-thousand across our state. non-partisan voters account for 21-percent of nevada's voter base. the most recentp clark county is that more than 10-thousand voters have cast ballots today. back in 20-12.... the total turnout for the first day of early voting was just over 33-thousand votes. voters we spoke to say, regardless of each person's party affiliation--it's important to hit the polls. (( julie robles, voter "that's our right. as an american and as a citizen, you should be doing that to make sure you want change in this country, then you need to get out and vote ." ))

senate are staying busy this weekend. this evening in the valley, catherine cortez masto is getting ready to stump at u-n-l-v with singer katy perry about the importance of voting. perry is in town campaigning for masto and hillary clinton. she also took a first-time voter to the polls. katy perry also campaigned for president obama in las vegas in 2012. /// meanwhile... joe heck took the day campaigning up north. the heck campaign held two event t with texas senator ted cruz and the other in elko. he might add an appearance or two on sunday... but there's no plan to be in las vegas this weekend./// ((michael stevens)) and with the election now just 17 days away the presidential candidates hit some key swing states today. donald trump visited the civil war battlefield in gettysburg, pennsylvania, after laying out his goals for his first 100 days as president. trump also mentioned his intentions to sue the women who have accused him of unwanted

an employee parking garage. the shooting suspect was later arrested inside the parking garage. no word on the relationship between the suspect and the victim./// ((michael stevens)) who killed darren rael? its been six years since the 44-year-old was gunned down in north las vegas. to this day, no one has come forward. the rael family talked with shakala alvaranga this afternoon -- with a plea to his killer. shakala? ((shakala alvaranga)) >> michael, six years later -- it's a cold case. u the rael family is now hoping that someone will finally have the heart to come forward ... and confess. rael was a mechanic -- fixing a client's car near gowan road and clayton street when a man walked up, demanded money, and then shot him point blank. neighbors spotted a suspicious black minivan parked around the corner but police were never able to figure out who was inside. darren rael's sister nicole shared these powerful words for her brother's killer:

((michael stevens)) it's been nearly 3 years victim of a hit and run while trick or treating. and the driver still hasn't been caught. since the accident, brazyl ward has been going through mental and physical therapy to re-learn some of her basic motor skills. it's also inspired the ward family to fight for kids safety, especially on halloween. today they hosted "safe-tacular." it's a safe place to dress up and trick or treat while also raising awareness on bicycle safety: (( tiffany ward brazyl's mother "we're going to make sure that on our part as adults

business is good this weekend for nevada's first solar-powered ice cream truck. last week we told you about harrel remmer who came up with the concept. earlier this week... the health district gave him the green light... so he hit the road for the first time serving up treats to folks in henderson. we caught up with remmer this afternoon to see how things are going: ((harrel "so now were out gonna have some fun with it i missed seeing the kids for about m them have been very very happy to see me come back again" )) ((michael stevens)) remmer has been driving an ice cream truck for the past four years... but grew tired of the health hazards associated with a generator. he decided to invest nearly 2-grand to mount solar panels on top of the truck to power its 2 large freezers./// ((michael stevens))
