nellis air force base...it kicked off today at nellis air force thousands of people checked out the event on opening day today... so many people that around twelve thirty, police told 8 news now the basse had reached capacity and was no longer letting additional visitors inside. if you missed it today... the show runs through sunday.. and is free to the public. in fact-- aviation nation is the largest free event in the state of nevada. in less than a second... my body feels like it's sucked back into my seat... speeds just shy of the speed of sound at point-nine-four mach. i was impressed---but the "ambasaders in blue" don't do these stunts to impress me. they do it to inspire the next generation of pilots that might be at the aviation nation crowd this weekend. by the way...hours for that show... 9am to 5pm both saturday and sunday. our valley youth with a friendly game of flag football. the police athletic league or "pal" teamed up with metro and c-c-s-d to recruit some elementary students who don't have easy access to sports... outside of school activities. for the past few weeks... their falg football teams have been practicing for this weekend's championship tournament. we talked to metro about the overall goal of this event. bret ficklin metro "we have the ability to go out meet with these kids practice with thiese kids, they get to see us as the individuals we are they don't look at us any longer as just the uniform they see that we are people we cry we feel we hurt we laugh andit enables them to empathise with us just as much as we want to empathize with them" ))) ((sharie johnson)) more than 200 kids competed in today's tournament.
