the countdow just about 30 hours now and tell the broncos kickoff against the patriots. at sports authority field fans are showing their pride. final preparations are made at the stadium. we are looking at everything from prices on last- minute tickets to who is on the injured list. back one thing that could put a hitch intense plans to come to the game for denver is the mass of winter storm hitting the east coast and mid-atlantic. we will take a look at thhse cancellations and how much snow they will have the for it is all over.

>> it is gorgeous outside this morning. it is hard to omplete when you watch the video of what is taking place on the east coast. they are getting hammered. a beautiful sunrise for us. grab your coffee and come join us for the next hour or two. if you are headed to the mid-% atlantic chances are you're not going to get there today. this is what it looks like. look at all of that rain and snow. freezing rain, conditions in washington dc where they have had about a foot or up to 2 feet of snow. colorado is nice and quiet. we have some clouds but no wet weather today. ready much statewide. we are in for a nice mild day. heading out you will notice to temperatures in denver are near freezing. greeley is colder at 19. you will warm-up but you will

>> reporter: broncos fans are coming in from across the nation for this game. some of them having to take on the massive snowstorm out east to get here. when they arrived it is great restaurants. this is a huge weekend in denver. we talked to some of the out-of- towners here including friends from dallas who are celebrating a 35th birthday but also a father and son who made the journey from philadelphia to see the broncos beat the patriots, specifically to watch number 18, peyton manning. >> what a bit -- what a better way to takk him to see his role model. >> today is my birthday. we came in just we came here in styleeand are celebrating the broncos victory on sunday! >> reporter: i also met some denver fans who take things to the next level.

decked out for every game. they hung out with us yesterday morning and then went to children's hospital, bringing their spirit to the young patients there and then to ashley elementary school. that school's principal is a patriots fan so students loved it when the mile high monster took him down. so much excitement and pride all across our city and state this morning. >> we absolutely love to see that. thank you so much. take a look at your screen. this is really cool video. you saw lindsay on the ground here at larimer square. above. check out what it looks like that you can see, thisswas quite at this time, but it iss in each perspective over the square. >> by the way, there are more than 2000 tickets available for

don't let the patriots fans get the prices seem to be dropping. if you don't mind sitting further from the field you can get a ticket for just over $200. closer you will pay in the thousands but the cheapest we found on the first level was about $2800. we found an upper level in the zone seat for nearly $6000. blizzard watches and warnings from dc to new york airports in the northeast are closed -`thousands of flights canceled. town. >> reporter: in philadelphia the streets are covered. a snow emergency in effect in dc it is predicted to be the biggest blizzard since the 1920s. expected. >> it has life and death applications. >> reporter: this storm impacting more than 80 millionn people left a blanket of snow in the south. this also wreaked havoc in kentucky, a 35 mile stretch of i 35 closed, leaving more than 3000 drivers stranded. emergency shelters are open. in the carolinas, georgia and virginia snowplows are working thousands of crashes on the roadways. several people have died. >> it is definitely ice. i

morning in my dump truck. >> reporter: crews have been working around the clock to save even our four-legged friends. this large st. bernard fell through the ice in this freezing lake. fireffghters jumped into action, rescued the dog and got him warmed up. this storm has already left hundreds of thousands of people in the dark. crews are working to restore power in dc. people have been told to stay off the streets because it is only going to get worse. >> because of the storm airlines have canceled about 7500 flights for today. you can expect to see more. this is a look at the misery map from flight aware. you can see the biggest delays will be on the east coast. we are also seeing some trouble in texas. dallas is the fourth worst right now.

a few delays in denver but not nearly what we are seeing on the east coost. if you're heading northeast check your flight. that is for sure. >> plan on waiting another day -`or so. the controversy surrounding the oscars is now prompting changes. >> a lot of people are complaining about the oscars being too white. the changes the academy is making to make sure that is not the case.

welcome back. here is a look at i-70 at silver plume. it looks like we have some sunny skies. not seeing any snow up there. a nice day to get up and head west. we are waiting to learn the identity of a man killed in an avalanche while snowmobiling your crested butte. it is the first avalanche death this season. the ninth across all the western states. right now you can see on this map from the colorado avalanche information center the aaalanche danger is mostly moderate big orange color indicates considerable danger. >> we had so much snow and that is what increases the avalanche danger for today is quite but because of the warmer temperatures and adding snow on top of it that will increase the danger heading into the

outside right now it is nice. here is a shot from a rooftop camera looking to the southwest from the denver brick you can see a little bit of the sunrise. it may be pretty up there but it is chilly. temperatures in the single digits. 120 as been right now. gunnison 15 below. not as cold in the metro area. greeley 18. the rest of us all in the 30s. when you see these numbers you are almost going to think i have the forecast run. we're going to be at 56 by noon. the cllar skiee this morning will see some more clouds. mountain wave clouds. not everyone but if you have them it will keep temperattres cooler. timber topping out in the early afternoon hours and by 4:00

53. look at the highs, in denver we warmer temperatures to the -`southeast corner of the state. into the low to mid 60s. mountain towns upper 30s and low 40s. cooler for the folks in steamboat, upper 20s. greeley and fort collins a little cooler than the rest of the metro area. looking at futurecast this is the mountain wave cloud i was talking about. along the i-25 just east of the foothills. moving the futurecast you will not notice much at all. a few more clouds this afternoon. very quiet conditions. this is at 4:00. we will start to see some changes overnight tonight. we will stop at 2:30. this is early tomorrow morning. we will see some snow in the northwest corner of the state. the northern and central mountains getting the snow through the day tomorrow.

for the metro area, it looks `ike it will hold off until the afternoon. the game is early on sunday. by 1:30 looking pretty dry. some clouds that dry conditions . that is not going to last. i the end of the game we will be looking for a little rain snow mix and snow to move in. at times it will be moderate snow falling. early monday morning. monday morning commutes could be a little snow. give yourself some extra time. today amazing. tomorrow 45. temperature-wise that's not bad but we will not have as much sunshine. if you are going to the game make sure you where layers and make sure you are ready for the clouds and not the sunshine. heading into monday even colder. temperatures topping out in the mid 30s.

welcome back everyone. it is time for us to look at the top stories. the biggest story right now in is the massive winter storm wreaking havoc up and down the mid-atlantic. blamed on the storm. 85 million people remain in the storm's path. 10 states have declared a state of emergency. 2 feet of snow. this could turn out to be the worst storm the region has seen in nearly a century. the storm is expected to continue through the day today. out life. they have been out in the snow

in flint water supply when the city switch from the detroit system and began drawing from the flint river. flint is not alone. a village in ohio now finds it has led in its water as well. schools in sebring have canceled classes to keep kids safe. lead test on thursday found lead levels unsafe and several homes but they are now working to correct that issue. this morning secretary of state john kerry is in saudi arabia where he is holding their feeling relations with iran. they are also discussing the syria peace process which is supposed to start next week . that comes as isis makes pigs -- makes big gains in iraq and syria. they are battling for another key city that if they were to take it would give themma huge foothold. in pakistan the military says they have arrested five suspects who they believe played a part in the deadly this week. that attack left 21 people

the suspects inncustody are believed to have provided the stay, transportation and weapons. a faction of the taliban has claimed responsibility . out of canada this morning, four people dead after a school shooting there. authorities say the gunman opened fire at a high school in northern saskatchewan and add a second location, leaving four people dead and another two injured. the suspected shooter is in custody . the parents of claae davis who died in the shooting at arapahoe high school want to see some meaningful changes. davis's parents are speaking out just days after a new report was released showing there were key warning signs overlooked by two years ago. there's father told lawmakers on friday he hopes this report will help prevent another tragedy. >> this process s no looger about our precious daughter clear. north lindale karl appears, the teenager in crisis who we

a lot of people are healing western union this morning for the new policies oo maternity leave. the company is now offering its employees 12 weeks of fully paid leave after they have a before imams were able to get six weeks off of work but that was just a fraction of their pay. right now federal law requires employers to give workers 12 weeks of leave. however, they do not have to pay them for any. just ahead, we know how to keep ourselves safe and warm in cold weather but what about our

>> [ laughing ] >> she realized she is on tv. >> this is not her typical behavior. she is a great kitty. she is usually the first one to run up to somebody to be held. she is a little nervous. >> let's talk cold weather. is so warm outside we still have cold weather in front of us. first, before you go out to your car make sure to check it for antifreeze leaks but anti- freeze is extremely toxic to pets even small amounts could be lethal. this is the time of year we see frostbite and hypothermia. if your pet is outside nature you have adequate shelter for the shelter should be raised above the ground, covered on three sides and have adequate bedding. also it is easy to forget about their water. make sure you have a heated water bowl.

today is gorgeous. one of our guys here was up yesterday and said it was absolutely gorgeous. let's give you the broncos forecast. temperature-wise, not bad. you will have clouds. here in denver that will make a huge difference. clouds are increasing and the snow will hold off until later. pack your wet weather gear because it will be incredibly cold if you get wet and then get the breeze coming through. it is going to be wendy at times. >> i would rather it just snow. >> totally. i don't disagree with that at all. you can see the temperatures dropping below freezing tooard the end of the game. let's hope we can wrap this up early on. once we get through `hat game, monday some snow early on for the morning commute. that means monday morning could be a little bit slow. give yourself extra time.

we are keeping an eye on the major slowdowns in the high country. we checked the cdot twitter page and they tweeted about 50 minutes ago that the time it takes tt get from 470 to the eisenhower tunnel is going to be beyond an hour. almost close to two hours in some instances. right now it is juss a big slow mess and high country. you have time to get up to the ski resort if you leave right now. hopefully this clears up closer to lunchtime. the broncos super fans are making the rounds ahead of tomorrow's game. they spent the morning right here at denver7 they moved on to ashley elementary school where they helped make over the principal who happens to be a patriots

temperatures this morning are pretty mild. starting off with a low of 33. the highs average at about 40

here is a cool shot from our roof cam with a look at mount evans. to see that crane out theree there are so many high-rise apartments going up. that is good. the city is growing. it is a beautiful saturday if you're heading west but the mountain roads are a big mess. >> traffic on i-70 is horrendous. teresa is in the traffic along with all of those people at floyd hill. this is i-70 in genesee. we can't even see the buffaloes. here is floyd hill. you can see traffic is moving.

issue to report. just a lot of people trying to get up there. this is west. you can see the sun shining. let's take you out east. this is east of dia. quite a bit of snow on the road -- still in a grassy areas. that is why some temperatures will be a little cooler than what we see in the metro area. the snow is not allowing us the full warm-up. as we look a few hours back on satellite and radar you can see eastern half of the state. you will notice they builddand wayne and then build and wayne. that is prettyymuch how are day will play out. dry weather across the state during the day today. temperatures to the northwest are pretty cold. dennison 11 below zero. in the metro area not bad. 34 in denver. this is the location of some of those colder temperatures. we are seeing still quite a bit of snow on the ground in those

for the metro the warm-up comes by noon 56. clouds will hang with us but it will not affect the temperatures too much. if you have thick clouds you'll notice some temperatures changing rapidly. topping out this afternoon about 2:00. whatever the high will be 58. some 60s in the southeast corner of the state of puebla 65. lamarr 63. really cooler -- greeley cooler than the metro area. the mountain owns would have highs in the 30s and low 40s. % leadvilll 42. salina should have 50 today. tonight you can still see a mix of sun and clouds -- there is no sunshine at 11:00 but we will have some clouds overnight we will see some snow moved in to the western half of our state . it is going to get a lot thicker early on sunday

it will build through the day tomorrow. for the metro area and eastern plains mostly clouds through the first halffof the day. that is what will see the chance for rain and so to move in. this is what it looks like at 5:300 1:00. at kickoff it looks like things will be pretty dry. that snow is going to continue through the evening which means it will be a snowy for the end of the broncos game but also for the monday morning commute. we will be deeling with partly cloudy skies until really that movvs out. as far as accumulation, not seeing a lot. this is going to be almost through monday where we will see about one or 2 inches in some locations. other spots will be less ttan an inch for denver. the mountains will pickup 6 to 12 inches of snow. clearing out. tuesday will have the warm-up that people are waiting for. a touching story that

right here in our state. a world war ii paratrooper gets his dying wish to be with his wife for the final days of his life. the va gave the okay yesterday for elmer malachite to spend his last few days at a puebla nursing home that is not approved by the agency. that is where his wife is being treated for alzheimer's. with the two sites other day saying to one another a generous donor paid for 10 days of elmer's medical care so he could spend precious time with his wife. there they are giving each other a kiss. >> that story is so touching. he gives me goosebumps every time we read that story. it is amazing to see true love. next up, it will -- a look
