-?> good morning. we begin with breaking news on this monday morning. let's head over to jason loop er. >> reporter: in wheat ridge at 38th and sheridan we have a police situation on the way. it is by this parking lot. they have a suspicious vehicle and person they are interested in talking to. they have 38th and sheridan temporarily closed down for now at the king soopers. you can see from the live picture out there, well i guess we can't see it yet. you can see the police at king soopers. they have the parking lot

we'll get more information in a little bit. we are in for potentially a soggy afternoon and morning in some spots. as you get loser to the springs we had a few showers. now we are in the mix of sun and clouds for the morning drive. temperatures in the upper 50s to 60s. denver 63. winds out of the southwest 15 to 30 miles per hour. it is a little breezy this morning. you are going to find of sun and clouds. highs today low to mid 80s. fort collins 85. low to mid 80s down to the 3 southeast and 60s and 70s in the mountains. chance again for a few thunderstorms this afternoon. that's what our future cast look like at 6:30. coming up, we'll take a look at the next few days. here's your first alert that we'll be warm all week with a chance for a few storms. a nice end to august. details coming up. >> thank you very much.

change of heart. investigators tell us the driver left the scene of a fatal crash but then came back. the driver hit the pedestrian at alameda and morrison road at 8:00. now to another deadly accident on i-70 in arapahoe county. troopers say a man was heading westbound when he drifted township the shoulder and over corrected. he hit the median. that sent his truck into eastbound lanes of traffic yesterday. he was killed. a second vehicle hit debris from the crash. thankfully no one was hurt. denver police are trying to figure out what happened after a man is found dead. officers discovered the body sunday morning after being called to a home on south knox court at west cedar avenue. when police got there they discover thed another --

deputies in morgan county are asking everyone to keep an eye out for this woman. it is hard to see in this photograph. her name is karen. she was last seen late saturday night on morgan county road r. saying she has dementia. if you see her call police. people living in denver's neighborhood are tired of gang view lens. amanda is joining us this morning where a look at recent violence. a shooting happened outside of an elementary school. >> reporter: we are steps a way from denver international studies elementary.

she was shot in the face. neighbors tell us that's just one of the many reasons the violence needs to end. they say if you take a look around the neighboohood there is evidence of the gang violence. including gunshots at a stop sign. you don't even have to see it they hear it. they hear gunshots as early as 9:00 sometimes. as the morning continues we'll dig into what other problems neighbors are experiencing and what police are the issue. green party candidate jill stein doesn't want you to count her out. she spent the weekend trying to woo colorado voters. she made stopped in denver. she wants voters to forget the lesser of the two evils that republicans and democrats are selling. former presidential candidate hopeful spent time in

she met with mike coffman on saturday. his opponent says he's repeatedly voted against women's issues. topless women and men marched around downtown denver calling for equality. the go topless event yesterday coincided with the 95th anniversary of the women's suffrage moment, women the right to vote. they want to bring awareness to all gender equality issues. >> we are talking about, in general women being equal to everyone in society. not just women. but all kinds of equality. >> the group told us they want to change the sexualized perception around female toplessness. although women are allowed to be topless in denver that's not the case all over the state. fort collins it is banned.

the new. 16 treat buss are get -- street buses are getting a new makeover. >> reporter: we are talking about a new fleet. if you walk up and down 16th street you'll definitely notice. we'll get a sneak peek at the new buses a little bit later on this morning. until then we have the renderings to show you. it is cool for the 36 new buses that wi and down giving passengers the free ride. that replaces the currrnt fleet, which we are told is 16 years old. the biggest change, on this new fleet all the new buses will be totally electronic. they'll run on batttry power from rtd. one charge lasts one day. we are talking about air conditioning for the new buses and wheelchair ramps. that's good news for the 45,000

every day. we are hoping to speak with an rtd spokesperson to highlight the features and talk about how this ill impact passengers later on this morning.. the rockies are on a roll this morning. they hope to keep it going. >> they just beat the nationals in two straight games. they started off rocky in d.c. they lost the first game against the nationals. but they got it together finishing the series with tonight they are hosting the dodgers for a three-game series. first 5,000 fans in tonight get a free t-shirt. from the big guys to the little guys we are talking about the little league world series. america won the title beating south korea in the final game. the winning team is from new york state. they had a 24-0 record in the series. this is the hers time that the u.s. has won the little league

for new york it was 1964 when they had their last win. >> they had a great season. we want to get back to the breaking news from wheat ridge this morning. >> darrell orr is livv on the scene. >> reporter: good morning. around here at 38th and sheridan across from the king soopers grocery store where wheat ridge police attempted to make a stop on a vehicle. they do have one of the persons from this black suv in custody. person inside this vehicle. they do not know if he is armed. the police presence is very heavy out here right now. which you can see a couple cars from wheat ridge police just pulled up. they are being assisted by denver police. they have sheridan blocked northbound and southbound from41st to 35th avenue. they have it blocked here eastbound and westbound a block

just to the left, there is probably 15 officers over there. ?e are keeping ourselves behind our news vehicle just in case we would be in the line of fire if anything were to go down. right now this is the suspect's vehicle. it is sitting at the gas station in tte king soopers parking lot. police requested that the driver of the gas truck, which you can see behind it will, get out of the way and stay out of harm's way until they can get the persoo custody. once again we do not know nor do the police know if this suspect is armed. as a precaution they do have denver police out here, white ridge police out here. they'll attempt to make contact with a passenger in this vehicle momentarily. we'll keep you up-to-date out here at 38th and sheridan. if you are in the area avoid this area now. like we said, we areeprotected behind our news vehicle right

we are following developments this morning out of los angeles where feaas of an active shooter at lax lead to the airport being evacuated. some delays are still expected this morning as things get back to normal. it turns out there was ve a guy dressed in a zorro costume caused all that chaos. here's a look at l.a.p.d. arresting the guy. in chicago these two brothers are in jail this morning accused of killing a mother of four. she was nba star duane wade's

gang members. the mother they killed was pushing her 3-week-old baby in a stroller when she was shot. video showing police in oklahoma pepper spraying an 84- year-old woman. you can see it right there. the officers were trying to arrest her son who say they say ran into the home of going thro to pull over. officers pepper sprayed the woman when out of her way. police tased her son and arrested him, as well. this incident is under investigation. some of us would freak out if we had to spend time with more than 100 tarantulas. this week's 7 every day hero is in charge of feeding them. mitch introduces us to him and explains why his job is so important. >> reporter: butterfly pavillion in westminster is home to 1600 butterflies.

around 38th and sheridan. we have roads northbound and southbound of sheridan and eastbound 3th closed down for the police situation happening here at the gas station at the king soopers at 38th and sheridan. i think we have a live picture. there you go. we had this police situation where the police want to talk to a person in that suv right there that we have by that gasoline truck. person. darrell orr has been out there all morning long. what do you see from your vantage point. >> reporter: right now police are approaching this vehicle. if anything happens we'll pull the camera away. you can see they are protected by their car door. this is wheat ridge police. they are moving into the vehicle right now. they have rifles out. they have hand guns out.

assisted by lakewood police. denver. they believe there is a suspect inside. right now we don't see any movement inside the black suv. but police okay, one officer just racked a shotgun. we heard that clearly from here. they are attempting to make contact. they are yelling at the person to get out of the vehicle at this point. we from the vehicle over there. as you can see there is a large police presence. they want the driver to come out with his hands up slowly. the vehicle is surrounded completely by wheat ridge police. we are probably within 20 feet of lakewood police department. they have their rifles out. we are are protected behind our news vehicle, which is thick

it is 5:00 a.m. we are following breaking news at the top of the hour. guns drawn. streets shutdown in wheat ridge. >> 7news reporter darrell orr is on the scene. we have breaking information now. >> reporter: that's right. they have one person out of the vehicle. he did come out. he had no shoes on. his hands were in they had their guns trained on him. the officers are now attempting to clear the vehicle to make sure there is nobody else inside. once again everybody is being assisted by lake side police, denver police, this wheat ridge's area at 38th and sheridan. you can see the officers have their guns out. they are making sure the area is secure while they are checking this vehicle to make sure nobody else is around. they have one person in
