i love this. yesterday, michael buble gave an impromptu a cappella performance in a new york subway station. which was great news for commuters and terrible news for the guy who makes his living playing an empty paint bucket. [ light laughter ] but it was like, "man, an unidentified man found lying in car, officer approached car, man sleeping, officer went on his way." [ cheers and applause ] ♪ [ cheers and applause ] >> jimmy: michael angarano! >> angarano! >> jimmy: hey, angarano! what are you doing over there? >> the angarano name has reverberated through brooklyn streets for many years. >> jimmy: you are. you're a native, right? you're a brooklyn -- >> i was born in brooklyn. raised in staten island. >> jimmy: that's what we're talking about. [ cheers and applause ] >> that's right. >> jimmy: and you're a cool guy. >> you, too, though, right? >> jimmy: i was born in brooklyn as well, yeah, but i was raised upstate in saugerties, new york, in a facility. [ laughter ] >> spent a month there? >> jimmy: yeah, exactly. i -- i got to be honest. we've never met, but i -- >> i know. >> jimmy: -- i feel like i know your face so well because we were in "almost famous" together. >> i know. >> jimmy: and you were fantastic in that movie. >> so were you. it's my -- >> jimmy: no, no. >> it's one of the best things about that movie is that you can

[ cheers and applause ] >> because if you think mick jagger's gonna be doing the rock star -- you are sadly, sadly mistaken. >> jimmy: i can't believe you know all that. >> it's one of my favorite scenes. >> jimmy: here's a picture of you and zooey deschanel and frances mcdormand there from the movie. there you are there. look at you. aw! but you were phenomenal then, and you're phenomenal now. gosh, what a great guy cameron crowe is, isn't he? >> oh, he's the best, man. he's like -- that was my first real experience acting. i mean, i was acting since age 6, so -- >> jimmy: that was my first and last experience acting. that was it after that for me, yeah. but i was spoiled. i was spoiled rotten. >> i know. i'm in that movie for like five, seven minutes, and i spent three months of that movie -- i spent -- it was a nine-month shoot or something and i was on it for three months. >> jimmy: he's the nicest,

greatest guy. >> i know. >> jimmy: and he will really get into -- cameron crowe, everybody knows him. he wrote "fast times at ridgemont high." >> "jerry maguire." >> jimmy: "say anything." "jerry maguire." really amazing guy. i remember there was a waiter in some scene that was just a waiter. he didn't have any lines or anything. >> right. >> jimmy: but he was walking, and cameron went up to him and directed him. he said, "okay, it's the end of the night. you have one more thing to do, okay? so, you got to come in. you'll walk by, deliver the drink. all right, is that good? do you feel that?" >> that's so funny. >> jimmy: and he made this guy feel like a million bucks. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and i'll never forget that. i was, like, what a cool guy to do that, to take the time to make everyone feel happy and like we're all part of a big family. >> i remember he used to play music during scenes. >> jimmy: yeah. >> and, well, there was this one time he came up to me -- we were doing the scene in the car, where i have to be like -- eleven -- where she finds out how old i actually am. and he came to up me -- we were doing it for, like, two days, the scene. and he goes, "michael, i'm going to give you a piece of direction i've never given anybody before, and i'm never going to give

anybody again. just make it funny." [ laughter ] and i was like -- >> jimmy: and you go, "yeah, i'm 11 years old." i remember he was playing jimi hendrix for some scene where we're supposed to get off the plane. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and we're supposed to look really cool. but billy crudup was in the movie as well, and he was just screwing with me, and he kept tripping me. [ laughter ] and i think it's in the movie actually because i'm so nervous that he's going to trip me. but it was, like -- give it some type of hendrix-ish thing that we can afford. so, i got to walk -- [ laughter ] and it was, like, so lame. ♪ [ laughter ] and i was like, "stop it! stop it, man!" and he kept doing it to me. and actually, the scene we used in the movie, if you watch it, he doesn't trip me, but i'm so nervous, i trip myself going up. [ laughter ] i'm going into the plane, and i trip on the thing and they all -- they just lost it. but it was so fun. i'm happy to see you grow up, and you've become an even more amazing actor. you're in this movie with julianne moore. >> yes. >> jimmy: come on! >> i know. >> jimmy: it doesn't get better that be that! >> my -- one of my childhood

favorites. >> jimmy: oh, my gosh. >> like, i mean, i put her on the level of meryl streep, of robert de niro. like the best actors -- one of the best actors we have. >> jimmy: yeah, she's phenomenal. >> yeah, she's amazing. >> jimmy: and it's called "the english teacher." what is the movie about? >> she's the english teacher. >> jimmy: there you go. >> and i play a former student of hers who's a failed playwright, and i come back home after trying a stint of playwrighting in new york. very unsuccessful, kind of depressed. and i give her my play, and we decide to put it on at the high school that i went to. and nathan lane plays the drama teacher. and in the process, there's a slight love affair with julianne and i. not that -- i think i gave away the whole movie just now. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: that's fantastic! good for you, buddy. that's awesome, pal. >> i like talking about it.
