reclining seat. tom, what can you tell us? >> reporter: this is like 2010. 137 passengers on board. one of them tried to put her seat back and the passenger sitting behind her didn't like that at all. a southwest airlines 737 heading from los angeles to san francisco forced to make an emergency landing sunday evening after an altercation between two passengers. one passenger tells nbc news minutes after take off a man began choking a woman sitting in front of him after he tilted her seat back. she screamed for help and the crew came to her aid. shortly after they returned safely. >> evidencely we have two passengers in a physical altercation. we need to get turned around back to lax. >> another witness posting this photo showing police arriving.

they confirmed the pilot made the emergency landing because of an escalating situation between two passenger. witnesses say the man was removed from the flight and detained. >> the fbi confirming one individual was contained for questioning after the incident. so far, no arrest. southwest says the remaining passengers arrived in san francisco but hours late. >> it's crazy. >> get a grip. >> now to the escalating war of words between republican presidential candidates donald trump and jeb bush. trump's controversial remarks about the 9/11 attacks and mt george w. bush. >> reporter: good morning to you. this line of attacks has criticized jeb bush. for much of the campaign, this time he's all in defending his brother and taking aim at the

message to the labor leader, he knows he can get the political pieces in place. now he has to make a final decision. as biden joins the race, a union endorsement would be the key. watching it all, democratic front runner hillary clinton had courted the same union and failed to lock in their support. clinton coming off a strong week getting a strong debate in the poles. over the weekend, she tried to build on that momentum in alabama. >> who watched the debate on tuesday. >> meanwhile, on saturday the vice president accepted a human rights award in new york. he gave no indication about his future plans instead paying tribute to his late son bo who encourag encouraged him to run. >> my son use to say keep moving forward. >> hillary clinton takes a break

while the u.s. is focussing on isis, al qaeda and syria have been growing. the u.s. is trying to show they can't just fight against isis but also america. >> richard, thank you very much. >> a high school player in texas died over the weekend after collapsing during a game. the sixth to die nationwide this year. >> matt, good morning. what happened on this football field in front of about 1,200 people is rippling across the country. they're now considering the future of their high school football program. just halfway through this year's season, the number of students who died playing the game has never been higher. this morning, following the tragic death of 16-year-old

cameron matthews, the question being asked why is this happening so often? the community is taking it hard. the 6-foot junior collapsed on the sidelines after telling teammates he felt dizzy. he was taken to the hospital where he died the next day. officials say he suffered an aneurysm although the exact death has not been determined. family and friends are heart broken but don't feel football is to blame. >> they feel if cameron wasn't on the football field he could have been in the car and this could have happened. >> he's the sixth player to die after a game since the school year started. six players were close to the beginning of the school year is unusual. last year fooi had football related injuries all season. three deaths a year is on average. in an effort to reduce deaths and injuries, every state can prevent concussions.

>> reporter: good morning. more violence. a tragic story this morning of a young man waiting at a bus station when this happened. a palestinian grabbed the soldiers gun and opened fire killing the soldier injurying five preliminaolicemen and four. the crowd thought the man had something to do with it. first he was shot by the security guard and then they turned on him so severely he died later in the hospital with injuries. an example of how the innocence are getting caught up. a furious argument here too. over a concrete wall, 15 feet high that israel is building around one arab neighborhood to try to stop these attacks. the palestinians say this among collective punishment and it will be ineffective anyway. meanwhile, john kerry said the violence is senseless and he has

called on israeli leaders for urgent action. it is really unclear how much influence he or indeed any of the leaders has to stop the killing. back to you, natalie. >> bill in jerusalem, thank you, bill. major changes on the way when it comes to owning drones. if you're thinking of buying one, the government is about to require you register the drone with the department of transportati transportation. the number of drones have increased dramatically leading to close calls with passenger planes and helicopters. a story this morning from the wild wild west at least one stre treated at an arizona hospital after being shot with bullets after a gun fight reinactment in tombstone. the skit was suppose to have blanks but one gun fired live rounds. after undergoing surgery to remove the bullet, other rounds struck a bystander whose condition is not known. a driver in texas may face

felony charges where a car veers into a motorcycle which is trying to patch it. all of this caught on another rider's cam. you can see the motorcycle approaching a group of cars. it tries to pass them but then a white sedan veers right into the motorcycle sending the motorcyclist and female pas passenger. later they confronted the driver. >> what were you doing when you hit them? >> i don't care. >> i got it on video too. >> i don't care. >> well, the motorcyclist suffered cuts and the passenger has a broken wrist and arm la laceratio lacerations. texas highway patrol is now investigating. one of london's most famous tourist attractions could fall silent as they give the go ahead to repairs. the giant clock could fail if

immediate action is not taken. big ben will be shut down for several months. there was some extra drama sunday night as new england patriots faced the indianapolis colts. first time since the deflate gate game. tom brady had himself a pretty good game there going for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns. the colts made a game themselves but new england came out on top. the new york mets have a 2-0 lead on chicago cubs in the national league championship series. the mets didn't waste any time getting on the board. already up 1-0 in the first inning and murphy once again with a two run homer over the wall making it 3-0. they went on to win 4-1. them three is chicago tomorrow night. we'll see if the cubs can do it at home. >> back to the future

7:30 now on this monday morning, october 19th, 2015. chilly start to the day here in the northeast and a look at the headlines on this monday morning. get this. a southwest airlines flight from los angeles to san francisco had to turn back and make an emergency landing overnight because a passenger allegedly choked the woman in front of him for reclining her seat. he was removed from the flight and then questioned by police. federal officials are announcing new rules for drones today. among them a requirement that anyone who buys them, even for recreational use, has to register those devices with the department of transportation. >> and vice president biden could announce his decision about a possible presidential

run any day now. he did not tip his cards to reporters and on a weekend phone call with the international association of firefighters biden says he has to make that final gut decision. >> how many days have we been saying he could announce his decision any day now. a never-ending question. let's begin this hour with the pending release of former olympic star oscar pistorius. tomorrow he's expected to walk out of a south african prison where he served a year for the killing of his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. nbc's kelly cobiella has the story on this. kelly, good morning. >> reporter: matt, good morning to you. you'll recall pistorius was just days away from being released in august when the justice minister in south africa put a stop to it, but that's not likely to happen this time around. tomorrow pistorius will start a new phase of his five-year sentence under house arrest. after 364 days in this maximum security prison oscar pistorius will soon be out. no longer an inmate but not a

free man. across south africa opinions are divideded. >> it's good news. i'm happy for him. >> it's too early. >> reporter: he'll serve the last four years of a five-year sentence at his uncle's house under what's called correctional supervision. >> he will go to work and come home. he won't have access to guns. he'll go to therapy. >> reporter: it was south africa's trial of the century. a superstar athlete and national hero oscar pistorius accused of killing his model and law graduate girlfriend reeva steenkamp on valentine's day. an emotional pistorius told the court that it was an accident, that he shot his girlfriend through a bathroom door thinking she was an intruder. >> before i knew it i fired four shots through the door. >> reporter: the judge handed down a five-year sentence for culpable homicide. reeva steenkamp's family said all too long the sentence is not enough for taking a life.

her mother june steenkamp spoke to nbc news this summer on what would have been her daughter's 32nd birthday. >> we have to learn to live without her and it's very difficult. i don't think it's ever going to be possible. >> reporter: it's not over. in just two weeks time prosecutors take the case back to court, arguing pufrtus should have been convict the of murder. unlike in the u.s., the prosecution can appeal the verdict that. appeal will be heard november 3rd, and if the prosecution is successful, pistorius will have to go back to prison. guys, the mandatory minimum for murder is 15 years behind bars. savannah, matt? >> all right. kelly coble yeah, thanks very much. an awful lot of media attention paid to that tomorrow. >> and the appeal as well. police in sacramento, meanwhile, are hoping new sketches of two suspects will lead to arrests in the stabbing of the french train attack hero spencer stone. here's nbc's jacob rascon. >> reporter: smiling ear to ear, spencer stone is seen standing

with his heros at the uc davis medical center? sacramento, recovering from open heart surgery after his family says he was stabbed four times in the back, lung, liver and heart earlier this month and now sacramento police have released these two sketches of two asian men they believe responsible for the attack. the tour were seen leaving a crime scene outside a bar weeks ago and a witness tells "people" magazine one of the guys who hit one of the girls and the guy who turned out to be spencer stone ended up being that guy. >> we're hoping the community, somebody can see these photos and it will refresh their memory. >> reporter: while detectives work around the clock looking for leads, stone is expected to get a promotion to staff sergeant, a direct result of heroics in europe helping to thwart terror attack on a high speed train and stabbed several times in the process. stone described the attack on

a trough will develop along this. it's going to be a slow mover so it len happens the showers and thunderstorms that will continue right through into the middle of the week and so we are expecting anywhere from 2 to 3 inches of rain, locally higher amounts possible, and then that system moves to the west, to the east, i should say. 40% of texas is at least in a mod rattled drought. three months ago nothing. look at what happened. that system starts to move to the east. heavy tropical moisture coming up out of the south and heavy rain and coastal flooding and beach erosion. rainfall amounts 3 to 5 inches and some areas may pick up seven inch etz of rain so by mid to late week we expect major flooding in texas, and we'll ke nice to get some rain over the weekend. we've had a little bit this morning. it's still misting in the south bay. after that the skies are clearing. we're seeing clear skies in fran at 60 degrees.

reclining seat a very good morning to you. it is 8:26. i'm laura garcia-cannon. a reclining seat leads to a nightmare flight. it happened after southwest flight left l.a.x. last night for sfo but quickly turned around. a passenger shared this photo of the scene after the plane landed back at l.a.x. other passengers say it started when a woman reclined her seat and the man behind her allegedly started choking her. that's when the captain radioed in an emergency landing. fbi agents detained the man involved, but so far there have been no arrests. the flight finally arrived at sfo about 2:00 a.m. with all 136 passengers on board except that man removed by agents. all right. let's check the roadways right now. hopefully smooth sailing out there, mike. >> it's a tougher drive.

she's ever listened to me. you were back in march talking about one of my what was that like? what are people asking? was there anything surprising about the experience? >> it's interesting because you know, obviously i've seen the movie a lot, i talked about it a lot. i think the last time i was here i was talking about it for the anniversary. actually doing an extended q and a is interesting because it forces me to remember it like i'm remembering all of the stuff which is really good for when i decide to finally write my memoirs which won't be a while. these memories are coming back to me that i forgot. what's amazing is how many generations of people loved this movie. i have 12-year-olds and 10-year-olds in the audience their mothers or grandmothers showed them the movie. it's really amazing that it's sort of relevant. >> it's awesome, i imagine as an
