we are looking over toward hayward where we do have an issue. the build coming off the castro valley, that was a quick build for west 580. there is extra slowing. no incidents there. we have a stalled 880 at 92. more details. in the south bay we have a little bit of slowing 101 typical around 680. 15 minutes from 85 to 87. >> thank you very much. we are following breaking news out of the south bay this morning where police surrounded a motel near the gilroy. >> we were the first to break the story on thanksgiving morning. our crews were the first at the scene of that motel as well. >> bob redell has been there since 4:30 this morning talking to investigators. what updates do you have for us, bob? >> good morning. it was a tip that led to santa

clara county sheriff's office to surround the days inn motel in gilroy. this happened overnight. they surrounded for a number of hours. around 4:15 they executed the search hoping to find chavez, one of the two inmates who escaped from the jail last week. they did not find him but did take into custody two women and one man. they are interviewing those people right now to see what relationship they may or may not have to chavez. they took a white suv away from the scene. santa clara county's sheriff's office tells us they have received numerous tips from independent sources over the past number of days saying there have been sightings of elio

chavez. saying he was possibly here as recently as yesterday. those are two inmates who are still on the loose. they with two other inmates cut through the second floor window of the main jail in downtown san jose last wednesday night around 11:00. they used a bed sheet to repel down the wall. two inmates were immediately recaptured. chavez and campbell still out there. >> the search is on for a shooter who opened fire inside a bay area bar injuring two people. look at the surveillance video. this is the man police are looking for. the shooting happened inside the bottom of the fifth bar yesterday morning. an argument broke out first. then the man pulled out a gun

and started firing. two men were hit but are expected to be okay. the gunman is still on the loose. >> jury trial is expected to begin for a dog groomer accused of animal cruelty. he was arrested after a dachshund named henry had difficulty bleeding and suddenly died. x-rays revealed he had a punctured lung and two broken ribs. he had been groomed in the pet smart store. he faces felony charges. kris sanchez joins us live with details on the glitch that gave some people a free ride. >> a spokesman confirmed this cyber attack. there has been no impact to

transit service or safety system. that is a map of a different story. those free rides were the silver lining. some toll booths had signs saying snmt out of service." this computer screen was blank. some people were fuzz willed as they were waved through without paying a fare. some ticket stations across san francisco reportedly said, you hacked all data encrypted. >> we were confused. we thought, oh, maybe it was broken at first then we were like, this is great. >> maybe for the holidays. >> we talked with a spokesman who confirms that message on the computer system was a cyber hack but muni staff is trying to get to the bottom of it. this happened friday. news of that possible hack reached washington where we reached a congressman on the congressional cyber security committee.

whether it is a lone wolf attacker or another nation seeking to disrupt. muni is running normally today. if that changes, we'll let you know here. >> it is 6:05. san mateo sheriff's deputy recovered after being injured during a drug smuggling bust. u.s. coast guard officials notified i.c.e. of three suspects trying to smuggle drugs into the park. the suspects were in a boat similar to the one you see in this file video. during the arrest, the deputy was injured. details are not revealed. all we know is the deputy is expected to be okay. a live look at havana, cuba, this morning where thousands are preparing to pay tribute to fallen dictator fidel castro.

going to talk about whether they can actually get this recount done by the federal deadline december 13th. the green party is requesting recounts in wisconsin, michigan and pennsylvania. >> this is not about helping one guy and hurting another guy. this is providing a system we the voters can believe in. >> president-elect trump denouncing the effort alleging voter fraud in states hillary clinton won, claiming without proof he won the popular vote because millions voted illegally. he calls the recount a fund-raising scam. the green party denies that. >> this is a total and complete distraction and a fraud. and something they should drop. >> hillary clinton's campaign lawyer said they found no evidence of hacking. they are not behind the recount, but will participate. there is dissension inside the tram transition over possibly appointing mitt romney as secretary of state.

motel overnight following up on a tip about two inmates who escaped from the main jail. we were the first on the scene this morning. they did not locate those suspects, but two women and a man were taken in for questioning. still looking for the inmates they are searching for. you see them on your screen right there. we'll have the latest and a live report. bob redell, the first reporter on the scene will join us with updates. b.a.r.t.'s open airport connector is underperforming since it opened two years ago. train service connects passengers at the coliseum station. summer ridership fell almost 5% compared to a year ago even as the number of total airport passengers grew. b.a.r.t. has lost nearly $900,000 on the service after projecting a $2 million profit over the first two years. airport personnel are blaming ride sharing companies for the lack of growth. 6:15. cyber monday. before you look for those deals

take precautions. online security experts say the first step is to use a separate credit card just for online shopping. if hackers get your information, the rest of your credit line and bank accounts will be safe. pay attempt to your statements for any unusual small charges. hackers hope you won't notice one or two dollars missing from your account. if shopping for toys this holiday season, consumer product safety commission has tips to make sure your kids are safe all year long. make sure you choose age-appropriate toys by reading the age label on the toy. kids younger than 3 avoid toys with small parts. if you're purchasing a scooter or riding toys, make sure the child has a proper sized helmet. be careful with high-powered magnetic sets. they contain small magnets that are dangerous and should be kept away from children.

hit records. the dow crossed 19,000. dow up 68, nasdaq up 18. a company called stripe. they just got new funding and it gives stripe a value on paper of $9 billion. normally i don't talk about valuations, but $9 billion is amazing. the founders are two brothers, kids really, who created a company in ireland while still in high school. finished their high school final exams and ran to silicon valley five years ago. immigrants come to silicon valley, $9 billion later. >> quite the timeline. you interviewed these guys, didn't you? >> i did, indeed. when it rains it snows? the recent rain in the bay area is good news for the sierra. more than a foot of snow fell in parts of the sierra over the holiday weekend. this is video taken at north star over the weekend. 18 inches of snow fell on

saturday and sunday. up to two feet of snow fell in other parts of the sierra. >> a lot of people took advantage of heading up to the sierra to get a look at that fresh powder out there. do you think we'll get more this week? >> looks like only light amounts of snow. for the most part, looking for drier weather after a busy weekend. now we start out with some clouds and mist in some parts of the bay area. here is a live look at the golden gate bridge. the roads are wet so watch out for that. temperaturewise, it is 55 and 57. that will be the high today. with some cloudy skies, we are tracking this weather system that will continue to move out of the bay area and into the next couple of days. get ready for some cool temperatures, especially early tomorrow morning. once this moves out, we'll go from the upper 40s for today to the upper 50s.

them to this days inn. it was around 4:30 this morning they decided to go in to see if they could find chavez, one of the inmates that escaped from the main jail in san jose last wednesday night. they did take into custody two women and a man. the sergeant telling us they were going to interview these people to see what the relationship, if any link to chavez is. and to see if they know where chavez is located. a white suv was linked to the three people taken into custody. sheriff's office tells us over the past few days they received numerous independent tips from people saying they have seen chavez specifically down here in

gilroy. one of those tips placed him down here most recently as yesterday. chavez along with two other inmates cut through window on the second floor of the main jail before thanksgiving. they repelled down the wall with a bed sheet. two inmates were recaptured immediately. chavez and campbell still on the loose. >> thank you very much. it is 6:33. a developing story. this was a scare for movie goers after gun shots sent people watching movies there running for cover. a security guard shot someone

following a disturbance that began inside the theater. >> scared to death. she was behind a door, locked behind a door, but still. >> the victim shot suffered nonlife threatening injuries. the guard believed he was armed and threatened by that man. officers questioned the guard and closed down the theater for the night. happening today, a father accused of drowning his daughter inside a church is due back in court in just a couple of hours. pete joins us live outside the court. >> the 42-year-old will be back in court in just a few hours. it marks the second appearance in less than a week. here is video from last week.

you can see him sitting in that wheelchair sobbing. he's chained to that wheelchair. criminal proceedings were suspended after his own lawyers raised doubts about his mental state of mind. we'll hear a doctor's evaluation on his mental competency. he is accused of drowning his daughter inside st. john the baptist catholic church last week. he carried his unconscious daughter to the parking lot of the police station where police say he was naked, screaming for help. we did speak to friends who claimed he was on drugs when all this took place. >> the girl died at a local

hospital. he is now facing murder and felony child abuse charges. his wife is pregnant and they have three more children together. his court date today is set for 8:30 a.m. live in santa rosa. tragic story there. >> >> 6:36. follow-up to a story we first broke friday. support now pouring in for south bay islamic center that received a letter filled with threat. the letter arrived at the evergreen islamic center in san jose. it called worshippers children of satan and said trump will cleanse america of muslims signed by americans for a better way. over the weekend peemd arrived to find flowers and notes filled with well-wishes. two other mosques also received the threatening letter. thousands of cuban americans taking to the streets of little havana over the weekend celebrating the death of fidel castro. >> they say i'll be waiting all

miami, the jubilation. here very somber and quiet in a city that is usually vibrant. you can see where they are lined up and waiting to move inside for this very small, very modest memorial to fidel castro. a picture of him in his earlier years, some flowers. as you talk about, thousands. when this day is over, tens of thousands will have poured past that memorial. this the beginning of what will be several days of public memorials here and around the revolutionary plaza. a lot of people spending the day in line and waiting to be a part of the procession here. tomorrow a public service that nine days of public mourning, official mourning you talked about sanctioned by the state. that concludes on sunday with a public funeral for castro here before his remains are moved to santiago, cuba, where he's

detectives believe sherry papini was kidnapped from. she was out for a jog, last seen in this area. this is where her phone was found and ear buds were found in this area it's been four days since she returned home. the sign now says "found, thank you, welcome home." investigators are searching for the two women they believe may have kidnapped her. we don't have a good description who they are. s(women with a gun driving a da suv. the sheriff is still confident this is a kidnapping. he has no reason to think otherwise. you're going to hear from him coming up in our report. thank you very much. 6:40. students in oakland return to school the first time since a fire last week destroyed park of the mosswood recreation center. firefighters were able to serve the historic mosswood house.

decorating done. we see what's happening on the roadways. >> folks back from holiday week for a lot of folks, seeing more traffic. seeing a couple of trouble spots. there is your south bay. slowing northbound typical there. we have more slowing for 680. that debris leftover, watch westbound 84 coming out of livermore and pleasanton. we'll get the latest from chp when they arrive. you see all the slowing there. san mateo bridge slowed because of the backup heading toward that crash. there is that 42 minute drive down toward the dunbarton bridge, including that crash. that will be a factor, as well. no delays for the b.a.r.t. system or other transit system. those are great options for you. might be slow getting over the san mateo bridge.
