good morning, i'm diane macedo. >> i'm ryan smith. in for kendis gibson. we begin with an extremely dangerous situation in the caribbean. hurricane matthew closing in. >> jamaica and haiti are in the path of the category 4 storm right now. which is bringing in powerful sustained winds of around 145 miles per hour. >> the u.s. military is taking no chances. flying about 700 family members out of its base at guantanamo bay, cuba. >> and this is an image of a water spout churning off jamaica. conditions there and in haiti will only be getting worse through the day. accuweather's paul williams has more on that. good morning, paul. >> good morning, diane, ryan. let's take a look at our forecasting models to project what is expected to happen with matthew. tuesday morning, the center of the storm between jamaica, hispaniola, traveling toward the north. staying very strong with very wide swells. and the influence of the heavy rain shower activity.

6:00 wednesday, expect it to park itself just to the southeast of florida. keep in mind, we're expecting it all next week to impact possibly the entire east coast. with rough surf, strong rip currents, and large swells from newport, atlantic city, possibly as far south as jacksonville. it will start as a category 4, downgraded to a category 3, possibly a category 2 next to florida. diane? ryan? >> thank you very much, paul. also breaking overnight, major security scare for kim kardashian. the reality star robbed at gunpoint in paris. here at this private mansion where she was staying for fashion week. >> according to the french interior ministry, she was tied up and locked in a bathroom while five masked men dressed as police officers stole several million dollars in jewelry. they took two cell phones. a spokesman says kardashian was not harmed but is badly shaken. kanye west was performing in new york city when he got word of

stopped the show. ? >> i'm sorry. family emergency. i have to stop the show. >> west then dropped the mike and ran offstage. "people" magazine reports that the couple's two young children were not involved in the incident. the five armed men are still at large. kardashian is now under police protection at a luxury hotel. we'll continue to stay on top of this breaking story. now to politics. and donald trump fending off criticism as leaked tax documents show he could have legally avoided paying federal income taxes for nearly two decades. >> and there's word that trump has been preparing for the next debate with the help of new jersey governor chris christie, considered one of the best when it comes to town hall style of debates. abc's maggie rulli has the latest. >> reporter: good morning, diane and ryan. we're rapidly approaching this year's election. early voting has already began in many states. both candidates are fine-tuning their campaigns to go on the attack and deal with last minute controversies. donald trump on defense this morning, using his supporters to

his tax returns. "the new york times" says an anonymous tipster sent them trump's 1995 tax returns. they say those records show a $916 million loss. a number so large, trump could legally have paid no federal taxes for up to 18 years. trump's team calling the move, quote, genius. >> there's no one who has shown more genius in their way to maneuver around the tax code. and to rightfully use the laws >> it's a perfectly legal application of the tax code. >> reporter: hillary clinton's campaign pouncing on the new report. saying it reveals the colossal nature of his past business failures. clinton surrogate bernie sanders calling this line of thinking an assault on the american people. >> if mr. giuliani thinks mr. trump is smart and all the rest of us are dummies, they have a very distorted view of the american people and what this country is about. >> reporter: trump is dialing up the attacks on clinton. mocking her recent bout with pneumonia.

she's been unfaithful in her marriage. and then this. >> she could be crazy. she could actually be crazy. >> reporter: the clinton campaign calling the new personal attacks particularly unhinged. >> i think it's an impulsive move by the candidate. >> reporter: clinton remains on message. speaking out about gun violence while visiting a church in charlotte, north carolina, this weekend. we're going to have to wait another week to see if trump brings his new line of attack to the next round of debates as the two face off next sunday. it looks like he'll have to play catchu news/"washington post" poll finds the majority of americans say clinton won the last debate. diane and ryan? >> we'll see the vice presidents square off tonight. maggie rulli, thank you. >> that's right. and donald trump facing another scathing report this morning accused of repeatedly demeaning women during his years on "the apprentice." >> reality show insiders tell the associated press that trump rated female contestants and talked about which ones he would like to sleep with. the allegations are based on interviews with former crew

the trump campaign is denying the reports, calling the claims outlandish and unsubstantiated. and as you mentioned earlier, the respective candidates, tim kaine, mike pence, square off tomorrow night in their first and only debate. we'll have complete coverage here on abc, starting at 9:00 eastern. tune in to abc for the next presidential debate, set for sunday, october 9th, and co-moderated by abc's martha raddatz. the u.s. is on alert for possible foreign cybercrimes on election day. homeland security secretary jeh johnson has acknowledged that election officials in 21 states are requesting help blocking cyberattac cyberattacks. the increased concerns comes just days after abc news reported hackers believed to be tied to russia targeted voter registration computers in at least 20 states. >> if we retaliate against ruche yeah, with a cyberattack

cyberwar. >> potentially the presidential election could be manipulated by outside -- an outside threat. i never thought i would live to see that day. >> abc news has learned that in four cases, hackers got inside those voter registration databases. and likely copied information about thousands of voters. stunning results of an election in colombia. voters rejected a deal to end the country's 52-year civil war. the result is a major setback for president juan m he vowed to keep a cease-fire in place and forge ahead with the efforts to end a half century of war. many of those who voted against the deal with the rebels said it was too lenient. pope francis says transgender people should be treated with respect. on the plane back to rome from his trip to azerbaijan, the pope spoke in support of transgender catholics saying jesus would never turn them away. and priests should accompany them spiritually. rather than condemn them. just three years ago he said his famous phrase about gays, who am i to judge?

that is mexico's colima volcano, putting on quite a show as it erupted over the week end. you can see the lava pouring down the slopes. nearby residents were eh vk waited. a setback in the search for an train crash in new jersey. one of the event recorders wasn't working on the day of the accident. workers have not been able to find the second box yet. they have spoken to the engineer. he doesn't remember the crash. >> eh he looked at his watch and noticed his train was about six minutes late arriving at hoboken. he checked the speedometer, was running at 10 miles an hour

track. >> the train is required by law to have a working events recorder. a terrifying crash is reigniting the call for seat belts on school buses. video from inside this bus shows a driver losing control after briefly looking into a mirror. only six states require belts on school buses. in california, residents being warned about the possibility of major earthquake. the warning follows a series of small quakes deep under the sultan sea. it was a weekend for fantasy at the box office. the rockies. if you're flying, airport delays possible in miami, boston, and new york. well now to a complicated murder case playing out in florida. >> over the weekend, police arrested a third person in this case. a woman they say has ties to the family of the victim's ex-wife and one of the alleged gunmen. investigators say she was involved in a long series of phone calls leading up to the killing and immediately afterward. abc's matt gutman has more. >> reporter: the woman suspected of playing a key role in the killing of florida state university law professor dan markel taken into custody. katherine magbanua is facing a first-degree murder charge. police say markel was gunned down in 2014 in his driveway as part of an elaborate murder for mire plot, orchestrated by the wealthy family of his ex-wife, wendi adelson. police say the 31-year-old

alleged triggerman and wendi adelson's family. and they say girlfriend of wendi's brother, charles. did she have anything to do with his murder? >> no. this morning, we have video of the moment a balloon show went wrong. this happened in the albuquerque balloon fiesta. one balloon drifts away and goes into a power line. the a flames and 1200 customers lost power. but luckily, no one was hurt. it was a close call over the weekend for families gathered at a car show in houston. watch as this mustang shelby spins out of control and just misses people on the street. panicked onlookers scrambled out of the way. parents tried to scoop up their children. organizers reminded the people that the monthly gathering is not a racing event. >> thank goodness for the

now to some football news. it was the pittsburgh steelers beating kansas city and beating them bad, 43-10. >> let's get the highlights from a few other games from our friends at espn. good morning, america. i'm john buccigross. we begin with the panthers, last year's super bowl participant. losing to the broncos. but off to a tough start in atlanta. cam newton and the neath newton, bam. see it right there. helmet on helmet hit. he goes in for the two-point conversion. goes through concussion protocol. have to see what his update is throughout the week. what a day for matt ryan and julio jones. the first time ever a quarterback threw for 500 and a receiver caught for 300 receiving yards in the same game. that never happened before in nfl history. a 500-yard game for a quarterback and a 300-yard game from a wide receiver. it's happened separately but not in the same game by the same team. bills and patriots.

this is breaking overnight. kim kardashian is under police protection in paris after she was tied up and robbed early this morning. five masked gunmen then stole jewelry worth millions of dollars. hurricane matthew is closing in on haiti and jamaica. with sustained winds of around 145 miles per hour. forecasters say some areas of haiti could get up to 40 inches of rain, causing flooding and possible landslides. >> parts of jamaica have already been whipped by the outer most rain bands. the storm is considered the most powerful hurricane to roll into the caribbean in nearly a decade. there will be mountain snow h and rain in the rockies and northern plains. sunny and warm across the center of the country. rain for florida and parts of the northeast. and finally, a motivational video that could get anyone heading in the right direction on a monday morning. it was shot, posted online as
