live where you live. this is abc 7 news. a man suspected of killing two children in a car crash is in the hospital tonight and his family is talking to abc 7 news. good evening. i'm eric thomas. we start with new details on a violent car crash that killed two young children in the east bay overnight. the chp is now calling lemuel wilson jr. a suspect in that crash last night on highway 4 in concord. wilson is in custody at highland hospital in oakland with injuries tonight. his family spoke to abc 7 news reporter kate larson.
>> we send condole length and prayers to the family joor the wife of lemuel wilson jr. says she took her husband to highland hospital in oakland this morning. >> and he told them what had happened? >> correct. >> reporter: the chp was looking for lemuel wilson in a deadly hit-and-run crash last night that killed a 5 and 10-year-old boy, injured a 3-month-old baby, and their mother, who was driving this dodge durango. investigators say they have evidence connecting wilson to the infinity which drove across this median and hit the durango on the solano avenue on-ramp. the 5 and 10-year-old were thrown from the suv. >> infinity comes across at such a speed, strikes the durango head-on in the left rear, catastrophic damage. the infinity launches up over our heads and lands back here. that's probably close to 100 feet. from the collision impact point. and that driver immediately
flees the scene, from eyewitnesses. >> reporter: tells tell chp the driver of the infinity got out of the car bleeding and ran away across the highway. i asked the wilson family and their attorney if lemuel wilson was involved in the wreck. was lemuel in that car that flew off the freeway? >> we don't know yet, we're trying to find out the information. >> reporter: i have spoken to the victims' family by phone. we know the mother is being treated at john muir medical center in walnut creek and chp says she's talking to them, helpful in their investigation today. we know her 3-month-old son is being treated at oakland children's hospital in serious condition. reporting in oakland, kate larsen, abc 7 news. we sent out a push alert to tell you officers had taken that person of interest in the crash into custody. to stay on top of breaking news any time, down load our abc 7 news app and enable those push alerts. a man was killed in a crash in daly city after being chased
by police. daly city police tell abc 7 news an officer tried to pull the driver over on mission street just before 4:00 a.m. but the driver kept going. police say the officer called off the pursuit because of the driver's speed. the officer later found the driver had crashed into san pedro road. the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, no one else was in the car. donald trump took a short break from his fourth of july vacation tonight to travel back to washington, d.c. to honor u.s. veterans. the event comes hours after the president sent a new round of tweets targeting two cable tv anchors who have accused him of lying about them. abc news reporter elizabeth hur has the latest. >> reporter: president trump marked this fourth of july weekend with a speech honoring the nation's veterans. >> you've shed your blood. you've poured your love. and you've bared your soul in defense of our country, our people, and our great american flag. >> reporter: but there's no holiday in his tweet war with msnbc's first couple. he calls mika brzezinski dumb as
a rock, her fiance and cohost joe scarborough crazy. >> he's so much more vicious with women. >> he appears to have a fragile, impetuous, child-like ego that we've seen over and over again, especially with women. >> reporter: the president commenting -- >> the fake media tried to stop us from going to the white house. but i'm president. and they're not. >> reporter: the latest squabbles come as president trump's obamacare repeal plan is hung up in the senate. trump tweeting to lawmakers, if they cannot agree on a new plan to swap out obamacare, they should immediately repeal and then replace it at a later date. senate republican leader mitch mcconnell quickly ruled that out. and the president getting pushback from states resisting his voting commission's request for data to investigate possible voter fraud. mr. trump tweeting, numerous states are refusing to give information to the very
distinguished voter fraud panel. what are they trying to hide? the states citing their own privacy laws. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. fireworks may be to blame for a house fire in san jose that forced ten out of san jose. crews respond to calls of a house on fire on foxdale drive at 2:15 a.m. flames visible from a half mile away. a number of trees also caught fire. it took crews about0 minutes to knock down the flames and stop the fire from spreading to a second home. >> we called for a second alarm early on because we thought there might be two homes involved. we really found it was isolated to the primary house and the vegetation. then we kept the second alarm coming but most of the second alarm companies were not there. >> neighbors reported hearing fireworks before the blaze. the red cross is helping ten people, clig four children. police in san mateo are cracking down on all amateur fireworks.

police in little rock, arkansas, are searching for suspects after 25 people were shot inside a nightclub, two of the victims in critical condition. abc news reporter adrian bank art has more. [ shots fired ] >> reporter: gunfire inside the power ultra lounge shortly after 2:00 a.m. more than 24 shots fired in 11 seconds. chaos. >> heard gunshots go off. hit the ground. tried to take off running. by the time we tried to take off runninging, more gunshots. >> reporter: a clubgoer capturing the shots and screams as people scrambled to get out of the line of fire.
>> 28 individuals in total were injured. 25 as a result of gunshot wounds. three as a result of attempting to flee the venue. >> by the grace of god, all of the victims are expected to survive. >> reporter: the downtown little rock nightclub pack the for a performance by a memphis rapper, the nes two times. the club's facebook page shows a poster for the event showing a man pointing a gun at the camera. police believe the shooting was the result of a dispute among clubgoers. >> it appears there was a disagreement amongst a small subset of individuals at a concert that turned violent because of the presence of rivalries and weapons. >> reporter: police believe there may be multiple shooters. they're interviewing witnesses including an offduty policeman working at the club. the shootings happened after a week of drive-by shoot ngss little rock. >> this appears to be a continuation of disputes from some of our local groups that have resulted in drive-by shootings.

southern monterey county six weeks ago a quarter-mile section of the highway now measuring 1,700 feet wide is covered in dirt and rocks. the landslide has expanded the coast from 15 acres up from 13. highway 1 remains closed to traffic until cal trans can clean it up and determine the area is safe. video taken by a bicyclist shows where there have been numerous complaints on a san francisco bike bridge where homeless encampments have grown. she says she submitted requests for the city to address the issue. according to the san francisco examiner, the proposed city budget has earmarked funding to improve freeways, including the bike bridge. a facebook post by the fresno police department isn't the latest crime statistic measure, instead, it tells the story of several officers coming together to help a homeless man. robert snyder came to fresno a week ago with a promise of work that didn't pan out. he went to the police station
asking for help to get back to his grandson in sacramento. the officers pooled their money and bought him an amtrak ticket. snyder says it was his first-ever train ride. a low-cost airline in colombia is considering ripping out the airplane's seats and making passengers stand the entire flight. it would be something similar to riding a packed bart or muni train but with stools. the ceo of viva colombia said there's research to find out whether you can fly standing up and that his airline would be very interested in anything that makes travel less expensive. the carrier has daily flights to miami but nowhere else in the u.s. several airlines have talked about the idea but never received approval. now your accuweather forecast with drew tuma. >> accuweather this evening the holiday weekend off to a spectacular spot. most spots seeing sunshine today, now some of these clear skies being replaced by fog. the traditional trek of our coastal clouds is beginning at this hour. fog right now limited to the
