let's go to lindsey matherly with a look at the forecast. a series of storm systems will will impact the sierra and western nevada through early next week. gusty winds will occur at times especially in higher elevations, along with periods of rain and snow. most of the snow for today is expected from the tahoe region northward into lassen county. the next storm is likely to bring moderate snow to northeast california and far northwest nevada late thursday and thursday night.

new this morning. 10 u.s. navy sailors have been freed after drifting into iraninan waters. the nine men and one woman were on a training mission. abc's stephanie ramos has the latest. this morning... 10 u.s. navy sailors are free they were on a training mission between kuwait and bahrain in 2 small boats when one of them became disabled... with both boats possibly drifting into iranian territorial waters, near farsi island. the revolutionary guard navy apprehended..the sailors...and according to iran's fars news agency they tried to prove they were "snooping" the navy chief of iran's powerful revolutionary guard says the us acted unprofessionally. soundbite aptn general ali fadavi, commander, revolutionary guards naval force: "it proves america's lack of commitment to maintain security and peace in the region despite what they claim." secretary of state john kerry personally working with his iranian counter part to find a dimplomatic resolution to the situation. incidents with iran have aggravated tensions in

craft carrier harry s truman was entering the gulf, iranian navy boats conducted live fire exercises just 1500 yards away. over the summer, u.s. officials claim iranians targetted u.s. ships and helicopters with laser devices. and in 2007, the iranians held british sailors for 13 days... despite early promises to release them ... claiming they had entered their territorial waters... stephanie ramos, abc news washington a navy pilot was able to safely eject from his aircraft after his jet crashed near a training complex in fallon. this jet is similar to the a u-s navy f-a-18-a hornet-- that crashed yesterday. the jet crashed in a remote mountainous terrain, about 25 miles east of n-a-s fallon. according to the navy, the pilot ejected, and was checked on at a hospital. the flight was part of a routine training mission. the cause of the crash, is under investigation. the pyramid lake search for two bay area men who have been missing for nearly two weeks -- has been called off. pyramid lake fire and

sign of the men at the lake and nothing to go on, to continue a search. the fishermen have been missing since january 1st. humbolt county sheriff deputies have arrested 52-year-old james melendez - in connection to the 2003 murder of james erwin. melendez was arrested monday in lake havasu city, arizona. he's the second person to be arrested in this case. erwin's wife, pam, was arrested on murder charges last week. melendez faces charges of murder and conspiracy to destroy evidence. shootings near pat baker park, reno city leaders and local law residents to address a neighborhood. neighbors wanted accountability. in a one month span, three shootings took place near pat baker murders. and, theres been an overall uptick of crime since 2013. last year alone there were 256 crimes reported in the neighborhood -- about a dozen more than last year. reno councilman oscar delgado says the city is working on turning

oscar: the community has done a whole lot of work to make sure that it wasn't what it was in the past. i say that in respect to gang issues and crime issues and so forth. there are still issues, but we are trying to get ahead of it and make sure the community knows there are resources available for them. new cameras will be installed in place of the broken ones at the park and the community is encouraged to take part in a neighborhood watch program. the city is also putting 400-thousand dollars toward park improvements. the pine middle school closure is impacting families more than you might think. many of the students who go to the school rely on school lunches for some of their meals. that's why several organizations came together to provide a free breakfast-bag for 400 families. students won't be going back to school for several days because a pipe broke in the building -- flooding the school. thats why the food bank of northen nevada teamed up with model dairy farms to make the breakfast bags along with a voucher for a gallon of milk. it's a staple and it's not terribly expensive, but it might get bypassed for other things. if we could provide milk and allow

rescue crews in california have freed a man trapped in a ten foot sewer line for more than 13 hours. fire officials say an independent contractor line in oakland ... when the trench collapsed afternoon. the man was freed this morning and has been taken to a hospital. no word on his condition. the collapse is being blamed on insufficient hole ... which allowed dirt to start caving in, his chest. it looks like at least one n-f-l team will be making the move to l-a leaving st. louis to return to the city of angels. : "they never should have left,

and far northwest nevada late thursday and thursday night. a leading band of moisture combined with cold air trapped around susanville brought a period of snow to the the winter weather is forcing some of our roads, to show their age. on south virignia street, north of patriot, pot holes are appearing on the roadway-- with cars and trucks making efforts to avoid them. city of reno road crews were out yesterday, trying to fill the holes, which are about an inch deep. the crews are using an ashphalt-aggregrate mix-- which they say should do the trick for a while. while the pot holes are a nuisance, they apparently aren't going to cause drivers problems, at this time. marnell heinz/reno maintenance & operations mgr: right now they are anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half deep. so it is not really detrimental to the vehicles mechanically. at this time it is more of a nuisance or irritation
