police officer. it happened around 7:30 last night - several calls to 9-1-1 reporting an armed man walking in and out of traffic on south las vegas boulevard - pointing a gun at people. officers found the suspect near the fountain area of the bellagio hotel casino. they demanded he drop his weapon, but the man refused. a patrol officer fired his gun, but missed the suspect. the bullet grazed a child's leg. a man was also in the path of the bullet, which caused a hole in his clothing, but did not injure him. the suspect was taken into custody - and charged with multiple felonies for aiming a firearm at a person. the reno police department is helping residents in old southwest reno get a neighborhood watch program going again... ward one council member jenny brekhus organized at meeting for residents at the mckinley arts and

neighbors. there were break-ins in the area over the holidays, and now the reno police department is helping to re-establish a neighborhood watch program there. the idea is for residents to be more vigilant and involved in their neighborhoods... and can help prevent crime. new clothes for a near year. the reno rodeo foundation collects donations and several times a year, invites foster families to shop for kids in their care. "it's a wonderful experience i just had a mom come up to me and tell me how much it means to support the foster familie it's been a near and dear part of our heats since 2007 so we're happy to give back to a community that's been so generous to us." volunteers of all ages help with the shopping. "you help out people in need they don't have really anything so you help them out." and the new clothes go a long way for families providing care. donna bawcom and her husband have fostered 18 children in the last five years. "we raised our own ten children we felt the lord would have us to go out to the hoeless and the children that have been abandoned and really nurture life into them, help them redefine themselves. its a lot of work but its the work that seems to give my husband and i much purpose and we can see

great minds came to reno to shared their ideas at ted-x university of nevada today. 25 speakers took center stage at a sold- out pioneer theater. 13 of them local... these speaks specialize in the fields of science, technology, business, culture and art. each speaker had about 18 minutes to spread big ideas worth spreading. the blend of speakers and music and people really sort of challenge your thinking. i am a professor by day so i fancy myself to always think broadly etc and this day even stretches it more. if you missed the ted x event today... videos of each speaker will be posted next month. there will be a tedx carson city event in april. the 2nd annual cinderella special needs pageant was held today at the eldorado casino. participants ranged in age from nine-to-over- 30. many of them also area special olympics athletes.

special olympics of nevada and the cinderella pageant organization. were donated. the state's big casinos are defending governor point-one million dollar tax package. wynn resorts, mgm resorts international... and caesars among the supporters donating 242-thousand dollars to the "coalition for nevada's future." the coalition will pay for attorneys trying to efforts. already, they've successfully beat a proposal to repeal all three parts of the governor's tax package. but... were unsuccessful in stopping a potential ballot measure to repeal the new commerce tax. the mega casinos are supporting the new tax package because is covers a wide range of businesses, not just gambling. just when you thought the number of presidential candidates was about to dwindle.... another millionaire is making plans for a possible bid.
