barbie: there's' a lot of time we don't get service because of the roads. they can't get to us. standup: waste management wants neighbors to bring their garbage out to chocolate drive, but for the elderly who live on roads like quid lane, they have to walk through all this mud just to get here. but there's not much the county can do. according to its roads department... the majority of chocolate drive is privately owned. the county... maintains about 870 feet of the street north of fifth street and 950 feet north of sixth street. the rest is up to the homeowners. barbie: i'd like to drive down the road and not possibly getting stuck. and when it comes to emergencies... neighbors are worried they won't get the proper services they'll need in time. jason: a washoe county sheriff's vehicle, slid into a ditch, had to get towed out. if a 4wd can't

that was catherine van reporting. the investigation into an officer involved shooting in reno continues. police shot and killed a 38-year-old man monday following a chain reaction crash. the man who died hit a car from behind on mccarran near smithridge-- and that car then hit another car. police arrived and found the man holding a knife to his throat. that's when officers tased him because he did not listen to commands. det. ken gallop, sparks police dept.: "the taser had little to no effect on that individual. that individual armed with a knife turned on both the officers and advanced toward them in close proximity. the officers on scene fired on the suspect." 38-year-old sergio alvarado-morales was taken to a local hospital where he was pronouced dead. investigators don't know what prompted his erratic behavior, but are asking witnesses and people who know him to call the sparks police department, or secret witness. that number is 322-4900.

at the sundance west apartments yesterday started in an abandoned unit and traveled between walls. the red cross is assisting nearly 70 people who lost power because of the fire. investigators are trying to figure out how it started. the salvation army and local businesses fed people in need at the reno events center last night. the event is called, "feed the hungry feast". several community sponsors helped with the event, including the reno sparks convention and visitor's authority, the eldorado hotel, harrah's reno... and many many others. at least 150 volunteers helped. "everybody thinks about needy people around christmas, but the cool thing about this event really is that it's a reminder that the catch phrase is need knows no season and so the need of people goes on year round not just around christmas time." levy restaurants, model dairy, ponderosa meat company, u-s foods-- and the washoe county sheriff's office

the university of nevada is partnering with car-sharing companies like zipcar to help fix a math problem on campus. there are roughly 22- thousand students, but only about 8-thousand parking spots. as kolo 8 news now's paul harris reports, this is one solution to help ease this pain on campus. nats you might have seen the green zipcar parking stalls near 11th and virginia. zipcar.com, "so what you end up having with the zipcar is a personally owned vehicle once a person signs up on their app or website they will get a cardkey in the mail. and with a quick swipe you can be off and driving "gas and insurance are included in all the rates." nats in terms if they break down, get a flat tire how does that work? we are on the hook for roadside assistance . we don't leave you stranded. a car can be booked for an hour, a day, or a week. spread of zika virus to new geographical areas, with little population immunity, is another cause for concern." dr besser: "now, take a look at this map. that mosquito is found in every country in the western hemisphere except for canada and chile." with more than a million people infected, brazil has been hit especially hard. in an effort to show how they're aggressively responding, the brazilian government posted this video on youtube showing workers spraying and fighting mosquitos carrying the virus. according to the c-d-c.. so far.. only a handful of cases have been identified in the u-s. dr besser: "they say we're going to see small outbreaks due to people coming back from countries who are infected." the virus isn't known to spread from person to person.. and the symptoms for most people... fever, rash, joint pain and red eyes... are mild and pass without incident. but the virus could cause life-threatening brain damage in unborn babies?so u-s officials are urging expecting moms to stay away from countries where there are infections.
