doctor timothy johnson has tonight's medical minute. sleep... we never seem to get enough of it. but now, a new study suggests that poor sleep could raise a woman's risk of diabetes. harvard researchers looked at data from a large, national study on more than a hundred thousand women. those who did not get enough sleep were more likely to end up those who did not get enough sleep were more likely to end up those who did not get enough sleep were more likely to end up developing type 2 diabetes - a condition often that means higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and early death. compared to women with normal sleep, those with multiple sleep problems were up to four times as likely to develop diabetes. these connections were there... even when the researchers took other risk factors into account -- like obesity, high blood pressure and depression. we don't know why this connection might exist... but you don't need to wait for more research to get better sleep. the trick is making sleep a priority, not an afterthought. bedtime routine, darkness, and staying off the electronic devices right before bed all can help! and if that doesn't
