thanks, jeff. the snow we have already received... seems to be sticking around. today, hydrologist on mount rose are reporting more good news. kolo 8 news now's colin lygren was there as they measured the amount of water currently in the snowpack. he joins us live from the mount rose summit.. colin? sarah... when we were here last month hydrologists were happy to report that we were at 110-percent of normal. today... they were ecstatic that we are at 125-percent of normal. several storms that dropped a lot of snow throughout january... made a big difference. just since friday... the summit picked up 27 inches of snow... melt that down and it is four inches of water. that combined with all the other storms... and you realize... this january was wet.

the month. look in the historical record and that is the biggest snow accumulation month in the winter, but we have just been missing it for the last few years. this year we finally got it and it has boosted our snowpack to a higher percent than what we had last month." the higher than average snowpack does not mean we are out of the drought. our reservoirs still need lots of water before they recover. but it does mean our river will do better this summer. the truckee is expected to see normal flows through august. reporting live at the mount rose summit... colin lygren.... kolo 8 news now. a state of the schools meeting is going on right now at damonte ranch high school. it's being hosted by washoe county school superintendent traci davis. among the things that she is discussing is the repairs to existing schools and new school construction. at least 15 new schools are needed to deal with the overcrowding issue. estimated costs for both repairs and new school construction are more than four

according to an advocacy group... build our schools dot com... proposals to fund those costs could include raising property and sales tax. " you would need appromiately a half cent increase in our sales tax rate and that equates to about $8 a month for a family of four. $8 a month would provide you greatly improved schools and if you did this on property tax would be about $10 a month." a measure on the november ballot will ask voters to fund a 781 million dollar bond that will go to repair and construction costs. advocates for this bond say if voters do not pass the bond measure the w-c-s-d could start double sessions and impose year round school for elementary schools. new at six-30.... one person is dead following a crash along southbound highway 395.just south of north mccarran. the crash happened about 2-15 this afternoon. the nevada highway

duncan dauber says the man apparently lost control of his silver honda civic, hit a light pole before stopping in a ravine on the side of the road. n-h-p is investigating the crash and has not released the name of the driver. some waste management customers will have to wait a little longer before their trash is collected. our recent storm caused dangerous road conditions for waste management crews in the areas listed on your screen. if the road conditions improve-- then trash will be collected later this week. otherwise, waste management will take extra bags without excess waste stickers on them-- next monday. ### all eyes may be on iowa tonight..but soon it'll be time for the nevada caucuses. why it'll be even easier to register to vote. the oakland raiders could come to las vegas. what the n-f-l says-- needs to be done, to make this a reality. so what kind of weather can we expect tomorrow, and into the rest of the week? we will have a closer

"pause for nats" look at this beautiful video of the lahontan reservoir shot. the past few years of drought left parts of the reservoir dry. but look at it now! the water level is still lower than normal.... but it's look a whole lot better today compared to last year. the weekend storm is helping the truckee river. just take a look at the river... it's starting to flow at a more healthy rate again.

weeks away, and both parties are making it as easy as possible, to register and participate. the democratic caucus starts at eleven on saturday february 20th. the republican caucus is on tuesday february 23rd from 5:30-to 8:30 in the evening. only registered voters from each party can participate in the caucus. there is still time to do that. republican and democratic websites will help you find your precinct, training sessions, and you can

ed pearce takes a closer look, at the key role played by volunteers. that's tomorrow-- on kolo 8 news now at 5 o'clock. ### n-v energy proposed a new cutoff date for customers to be grandfathered into lower solar energy rates. n-v- energy is now proposing to allow the lower rates for existing solar customers..if they installed or applied for their system by september tenth, 2015. today, n-v energy proposed seven ways the grandfathering could work. the nevada public utilities commission will hold a hearing on the moratorium proposal on february 8th. the n-f-l released a memo about the raiders' possible move to las vegas. the memo outlines, what needs to be done in order for the team to move to southern nevada. the n-f-l says there is nothing forbidding-- any team from moving to any city. a move would need a 3- fourths vote of approval, from the other member clubs in

new stadium could be constructed, for about 1-billion dollars. ### over the hill, the folsom lake is recovering. water levels are rising quickly..which could cause a problem. in less than two months, folsom lake has gone from the lowest level in its history to above average, for this time this year. plans have been set in place after massive rainfall, caused a temporary dam to fail 30-years-ago. water was going into folsom lake--- faster than operators of the dam could safely release it. but, history isn't going to repeat itself. "so we are fortunate enough this year to come out of a four- year drought and to see the reservoir start to rise again.. and as we do we not only have to think of conservation and storing the water in the resevoir, we have to be looking at flood operations as we go forward." right now, folsom lake is less than half full-- because of strict regulations imposed after 19-86. the regulations put a cap on how much water can be left in the lake. right now, the lake holds 406-thousand-

announcer: "you're watching kolo 8 sports now with josh little." matt williams was back in reno today... grad in town for the luncheon the event included a meet-and-greet, and a panel discussion on baseball... williams spent the last two years as the manager of the washington nationals, and was even named the nl manager of the year back in 2014... he's back on the d'backs coaching staff as their third base coach... and he says a triple-a team, and their fan base, is crucial to arizona's success... and he's impressed by what reno has to offer. williams: "well i think the fan base is fantastic. five thousand folks every night's kind of cool. that's fun. the fact that it's downtown is really nice too, to get people back to downtown. the facility's great, the team is good. phil's done a great job managing this club. so, any chance that we get to come back and help out is our

baseball season is right around the corner... players report for spring training in just about two weeks. braden shipley has been named one of the top 100 prospects by mlb pipeline... the former wolf pack pitcher is ranked 67th.... he started 27 games in double-a last season, going 9-and-11 with a 3.50 era... shipley has been invited to the diamondbacks spring training. archie bradley has been ranked 72nd overall.... he has pitched in reno for parts of the last two seasons... he's made 9 starts for the aces, going 2-and-5 with 43 strikesouts in 45 innings ptiched... he also pitched in 8 big league games with arizona last season. raiders defensive end justin tuck has decided to retire, ending an 11- year career. tuck played for the giants for the first 9 years of his career, winning a pair of super bowls... he was named to two pro bowls, and was once a first team all- pro selection... he played in just five games this season...
