>> yeah, ladies, internships are the new 40. how a four week program can get you back in the work force or even make a career change. but first, a fiery crash has blocked a freeway for hours today. >> this is cbs5 news. >> good afternoon everybody. i'm heidi goitia. new at noon, u.s. 60 eastbound at the loop 101 is back open at this hour after a dump truck around several vehicles caught fire. we have been following the at least 11 people were hurt in the fiery wreck on the u.s. 60 eastbound near alma school. flames bursting dozens of feet into the air. troopers say it started when a dump truck headed westbound lost control, crossed over the median wall and landed in the eastbound lanes hitting several vehicles. fuel leaked out of the truck causing the fire. the driver was taken to a trauma center along with one other person.

for only minor injuries. >> we have an update on an overnight fire that started in a nearby tree and sparked some materials outside a building. the roof sustained minor damage. there might have been kids in the area when the fire started. crews are investigating this one. happening today, a schedule change for students and parents in the valley. today, hundreds of kids from two different schools tha repairs, they are going to start sharing another school. kids who go to challenger elementary are attending cordov elementary. while student ifs ladmark are holding classes at desert spirit as repairs are made to the schools. they are using a split schedule with each school attending class for half a day. the district says parents have the option of using an enrichment period. that would allow parents who

school for the entire school day. merit schools are in for az and they are not good. only 38% of all the students who took the test passed the english portion of the test. same for the math. it is broken down into several demographic, gender, grade, ethnicity. the pass rate was less than . better than boys. my daughter was laying there, knocked out in full seizure. >> yeah, a violent fight in an arizona high school sends one girl to the hospital. as you can see, it was all caught on camera. in fact, there have been two brawls in three days at wickenburg high school. and two students have been arrested. parents say they are so concerned about the recent

staying home instead of going to school out of fear for their safety. >> the only thing they have is a ton of video and humiliation on her end because she had a seizure. >> the school and the police department and the town, very concerned. student safety is our utmost importance. >> now, the school says those who investigated the fights or instigated them rather are facing expulsion. they will continue to be visible on campus for the rest of the week. in arizona that failed safety inspections nearly doubled from 2013 to 2015. that is according to the arizona republic. nearly 30% failed last year. failures resulted from cracks or rotten tires blocking emergency exits an unsecured seats. roosevelt elementary school district in south phoenix had the highest inspection failure rate in the entire county.

and somebody's grandma visiting phoenix has a story to tell her grandchildren. i'm bruce haffner, flying in the penguin air and plumbing news chopper. how would you like a new way to experience the grand canyon? hang on a minute. listen to this. a billion dollars proposal on the east end could come up for a vote very soon. now, developers want to build a gondola to the canyon floor. and they want to build some other tourist attractions as well. the grand canyon escalade would be just outside the grand canyon national park on owned by the navajo nation. navajo lawmakers expected to take up the issue for the first time in mid october and the plans have generated a lot of controversy. >> these areas are priceless. they are not worth the destruction and the genocide actually of our cultural beliefs. >> yeah. opponents of the project are ramping up their efforts. one group recently released a 3d rendering of the plans.

a ridge of high pressure overhead is keeping us very sunny, very dry. and it is going to start to inch up our temperatures. 90 in havasu. 77 in payson. 68 up in flagstaff. around the valley, most of us are hanging out in the low 90s . and any 80s hanging on? yeah. deer valley. 88 degrees there. chandler leading the way with a 93-degree temperature right now. the rest of your day looks like this. overlooking camelback mountain, 97 degrees. tons calm winds. sunset now at 6:32. but our old friend the monsoon will return as we get going into the next few days. we will talk about when we could see rain return. well, the birtherrish comes full circle. what donald trump has said. >> and bill murray can now add bartender to his resume. where he will be serving this weekend. >> and grab your phones.

president obama to release his birth certificate." meanwhile, ivanka trump is making headlines after cutting off an interview with cosmopolitan magazine. she quit the interview when the reporter asked her about comments her made in the past. comments in 2004 when he said pregnancy was an inconvenient thing for business. she was also asked why trump's paid child care couples or paternity leave. all right, well it is finally here. apple fans today, you can pick up the brand new iphone 7, but it may be a little hard to get your hands on. you have to be patient. apple has sold out of their initial supply of the iphone 7 plus model and only limited quantities of the iphone 7 in all colors except for jet black. are available. you can order all of these models online. you will just have to wait a little bit longer to get them.

monday, tuesday, and wednesday. this map, it looks kind of crazy, but it is the water vapor map. see this band of dry air curving here? this is going to bring in southerly flow as we get going into a monday. so we are going to start to bring moisture in from the south. that will increase our storm chances. i'm going to let futurecast roll. because you will not see anything all weekend. as clear as it monday, a better chance of storms as we get going into tuesday. the mountains will be favored as always, but, about a 20% chance to see rain in the valley. temperatures out there now. 92 degrees in phoenix. dew points in the 30s which is very comfortable. once we get dew points into the 50s and 60s , then it start to get muggy. this is what it looks like tomorrow. in flagstaff. 72 and sunny. 74 and sunny in show low. 84 and sunny in sedona.
