elizabeth. several wind advisories in effect. we'll let you know where the wind advisories are plus check the roadwork. it's 5:00. we are following a developing story out of east bay. a missing baby was found alive and is it in good condition. >> this followed a search that began yesterday morning in contra costa county. mother of 4-month-old rammy gallegos put the infant to bed saturday night and eight hours later she wasn't in the bassinette. she lives with her parents 10 miles east of antioch. it's not clear why they waited some 20 minutes to call police. authorities don't believe the baby was kidnapped. sheriff's deputies are still at the family's house this morning. kiet do is on the way and will have a live report in 30

minutes. bail is set at a million dollars for a man arrested for beating giants fan bryan stow in los angeles in march. sharon chin is in san francisco where stow remains in critical condition. sharon, good morning. reporter: good morning. the big break in the case came from a parole officer. he happened to notice that one of his parolees apparently was adding several new tatoos on his neck apparently to cover one that he already had. lapd s.w.a.t. teams armed with search warrants raided a home in an east hollywood apartment building early sunday morning. at the apartment, police say 31- year-old giovanni ramirez surrendered. police believe he is the key suspect in the beating of giants fan bryan stow. an "l.a. times" source says three witnesses identified him in a line-up. lapd's chief says the arrest follows a parole officer's hunt and hundreds of tips. 20 full time detectives have been on the case for more than

6,000 hours. >> during that work, surveillance was done, a lot of background investigation was done and more information was developed that led to enough information that we were able to obtain a search warrant for this individual. >> reporter: the arrest comes 52 days after bryan stow was brutally beaten in the parking lot of dodger stadium after the season opener. the santa cruz paramedic and father of two remains in critical condition here at san francisco general hospital. investigators are now looking for two other suspects another man who took part in the beating and a woman who drove the getaway car. police and s.w.a.t. team members say they seized evidence from the apartment building where they arrested ramirez in a home. >> need to understand that we're not going to stop that we're going to continue working hard that we have the first suspect and we will identify you and bring you in. >> reporter: he was booked for

assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a million dollars bail. detectives say he has previous convictions for weapons and robbery charges. his mother said she knew police would make the arrest and she praised the police work. san francisco's mayor called l.a.'s mayor and texted him to thank him. sydnie? >> thank you, sharon chin in san francisco. and as sharon mentioned, bryan stow's mother is telling kcbs radio that she never gave up hope that the l.a. police department would track down the suspects in her son's beating. >> they were so compassionate with our family and reached out to us and made a promise that they were not going to rest until they got these guys and so that's why i put it out of my mind. i didn't think about it. i knew it was going to be taken care of. and obviously, they did what they promised. >> the san francisco giants president said there's been a cloud hanging over the team ever since that attack on

opening day. >> to the extent that a little bit of i won't say closure but a little bit of the recognition that the people that perpetrated this crime will not be perpetrating these crimes again. >> the giants organization raised $75,000 for stow's medical expenses. we have posted more video and reaction to the arrest as well as the entire police news conference that made that announcement at cbssf.com. time now is 5:04. antioch police looking for suspects in a deadly shooting. police were called to the 2300 block of d street about 8:00 last night. the victim was found on the sidewalk pronounced dead at the hospital. so far no information on a suspect. several san quentin inmates recovering this morning after a wild riot. it started around 7:00 last night in the dining hall. some 200 inmates took part in the fight. at least four were stabbed or slashed and treated at the

hospital. now, we just talked with san quentin. those inmates have since been released from the hospital. other inmates suffered minor injuries. no guards why hurt. prison officials got things under control with pepper spray and nonlethal bullets. at this point, it is not clear how the riot started. jury deliberations expected to begin today in the murder trial of two men connected with "your black muslim bakery." this morning, lawyers will finish making their closing arguments. yusef bey iv and antoine mackey charged with three counts of murders. police say they were involved in the killings of three men in 2007. at least 89 people have died in massive tornadoes that struck the southwest missouri city of job lynn. we have some live pictures unbelievable the destruction there. the number could climb as search-and-rescue crews continue their work this morning. the twister cut a path nearly 6 miles long and half mile wide

through the city, the center of town, rather. much of the city's south side was just leveled. churches, homes, schools, as you can see reduced to ruins. a hospital took a direct hit from sunday's storms. patients were scattered to other nearby hospitals. >> if it comes this way, get -- sylvia, come here! >> this is video of another tornado further north in lacrosse, wisconsin. the twister knocked out power in much of that town as well. the damage path was about three blocks wide. so far just minor injuries there. but just a devastating weekend in the midwest. let's check traffic and weather around the bay area. we'll start with kristy seifkin. good morning. >> good morning. seeing breezy conditions as you make your way out the door this morning. cool conditions, as well. you can see near ocean beach we are seeing gusts close to 40 miles an hour. daly city and pittsburg gust in the low to mid-20s then san francisco gusts at 14 miles an hour. temperatures in the high 40s,

low 50s. reason we are seeing these breezy conditions is actually we are between two systems. seeing a system that's brought rain to the north of us bringing windy conditions to the bay area. temperatures similar to yesterday. 73 for napa and fairfield, 68 vallejo, cooler in san francisco at 64. cool 59 in pacifica. 70 livermore. 67 in fremont. 69 in san jose. we are going to see more wet weather back in the forecast into wednesday. drying out thursday, friday. then this next weekend looking good with temperatures in the low 70s inland and mostly sunny conditions. that's a look at weather. elizabeth has traffic. >> winds an issue for our morning commute. we have several wind advisories on some of our bridges. roadwork has been picked up including the nimitz freeway. several lanes of northbound 880 from fifth towards grand several right lanes were blocked. they were saying until 5:30 but they got it picked up early. so yeah, we just heard from our

abracadabra because i didn't know how to pronounce his name. >> the trip will include stops in england, france and poland. he is in. former minnesota governor tim pawlenty is running for president. >> my first campaign stop will be in iowa where i'm going to begin a campaign that tells the american people the truth. >> he made the announcement online last night. today he will be in iowa to make it official and will continue his campaign trip down to florida up to new hampshire, new york and finally washington, d.c. he joins newt gingrich, mitt romney, utah governor john huntsman and businessman herman cain on the list of declared republican candidates. san carlos will begin the process of appointing anew mayor when the city council meets tonight. the city's mayor of five months omar ahmad died of a heart attack a couple of weeks ago.

the vice mayor andy klein took over interim base business but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence a day later. it's not sure whether it will affect his chances of becoming mayor. they will talk about it tonight. relief at the pump. we'll tell you how much gas prices could go down by memorial day. >> loving that. >> yeah. and a hiccup in the marathon spacewalk for the endeavour crew. the mishap that's delaying repairs on the space station. that and much more coming up. ,,,,,,,,,,,,

a suspect is in jail in los angeles for beating br it is 5:16. let's take a look at the morning's top stories now. a suspect is in jail in l.a. for beating bryan stow outside dodger stadium march 31st. l.a. police made the arrest yesterday morning. a tip from a parole agent helped identify the suspect. stow remains in critical condition in san francisco at san francisco general hospital. a missing baby has been found alive apparently in good condition, too. the mother of 4-month-old rammy gallegos said she put the infant to bed saturday night and when she woke up 8 hours later she wasn't in her bassinette but is now found. authorities don't believe the baby was kidnapped. 89 people are dead and the

toll could get higher after a massive tornado slammed the city of joplin, missouri. the pictures are unbelievable. a hospital was hit so hard that medical records and x-rays were found 70 miles away. unbelievable conditions there. not quite that way here in the bay area although pretty breezy outside this morning especially at the coast and along the bay. temperatures we are seeing in the highway 40s and low 50s. highs today similar to yesterday. we are certainly going to see more wind in the forecast today along those bayshores seeing gusts up to 20 miles per hour at the . the low passing through, we'll see more mild conditions as the area of high pressure builds in but you will see behind that another low that's going to slide in and bring us some rain or a chance of rain on wednesday. but today enjoy the sunshine

and temperatures that look like this. 70 for sunnyvale and morgan hill. 68 los altos and palo alto, also 68 in union city. 67 as a high in fremont today. antioch and brentwood both topping out at 73. cooler in walnut creek at 71. 65 in alameda and 67 for berkeley. up to the north bay seeing a mix of high 60s, low 70s here. 68 for novato san rafael. 73 fairfield. san francisco 64. tomorrow starting to see clouds building in later on and then wednesday a chance of rain in the forecast. thursday and friday temperatures in the low 70s inland, and mostly sunny skies for this weekend. elizabeth has traffic. >> thank you, kristy. we'll go outside. i believe we are going to show you 101 traffic through san jose near the mckee exit. everything is free-flowing in either direction. northbound traffic looks great as you head out towards santa clara. let's go to our maps. we can show you more of what

we're talking about. windy conditions as kristy mentioned. in fact, we had several wind advisories in effect one actually for the altamont pass. chp issued one westbound and eastbound 5 0. also one for the san mateo bridge and one for the bay bridge this morning so you will notice that caltrans has their warning signs up. to the south bay we go. we showed you that one shot of 101 at mckee. the rest of the south bay looks great, as well. here's 280 traffic. that's northbound approaching the 880 interchange. nationwide all the way up towards cupertino. that looks great along the peninsula, 101 and 280. i mentioned a couple of wind advisories. here's a live look at the san mateo bridge. visibility also an issue this morning if you cross the span. a little hard to see from this camera but you can see maybe caltrans has a high wind warning sign u that's just past the toll plaza. no big delay, 13 minutes from hayward to foster city. lane change done across the golden gate bridge. one of our sensors showed about

60 miles per hour. so top speeds across the span heading into san francisco. one more camera, here's a live look at 101 at third and bayshore. as i mentioned, no problems right now up and down the peninsula. a lot of our overnight roadwork including some on 880 also highway 4 everything is picked up. and mass transit bart has 23 trains at least all running on time so systemwide everything on bart looks great. ace train number one still no problems. same thing with muni metro and caltrain. if any changes, remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9-fm. that's your traffic and weather. back to you. >> thank you. caltrans has re-opened highway 50 four days earlier than expected. so starting today, one way traffic control will be in effect at echo summit. the area had been closed off for about nine days because of construction. both directions are expected to be opened by friday, just in

exit. everything is fine right now. i mentioned a couple of high wind advisories so still in effect for a couple of bridges including one for the altamont pass, as well. so we'll have more traffic coming up in a bit. in the meantime, back to you. >> thank you. we're following a developing story in contra costa county. a 4-month-old baby missing since yesterday morning has been found in good health and alive. kiet do reports. >> reporter: good morning. the good news about little ramy came in about 4:00 this morning. she is reportedly okay and in good condition. but her exact location is unknown. so the details are still tricking n but this all certainly raise thed a lot of questions. this incident began at sunrise on sunday. her mom woke up to feed her at 6:00 but she was gone. a family friend says ramy slept in a bassinette in the parents' room and that the backyard door had been left open. police wouldn't confirm any of the details. but this all launched a massive search with 100 people, k-9

units and a helicopter. investigators said the circumstances were suspicious but there was no evidence of a family dispute or kidnapping. both parents were questioned but they weren't considered suspects. so again, ramy is back in custody now. she is okay at this point. don't know where she is, where she spent the past 24. that remains to be seen. we hope to get that information for you later on this morning. back to you. >> thank you, kiet do live in knightsen. thanks so much. we are learning new details now this morning about the man arrested for the beating after giants fan bryan stow. sharon chin reports from san francisco where he remains hospitalized this morning. good morning. reporter: good morning. you know, the last seven weeks, police have gotten more than 630 tips but the big lead, the one that made the difference came from a hundredch from a parole officer. this all came to a head early yesterday morning when l.a. s.w.a.t. teams armed with search

how it started. 5:35. let get another look at traffic and weather before you head out the door. we'll start with kristy seifkin and sunshine but a little breezy? >> right. sydnie has the forecast for you. you didn't need me. she's got it covered. here's a look at conditions outside. gusts up to 40 miles an hour reported at ocean beach. 33 miles per hour daly city. san francisco and union city 9 to 12-mile-an-hour gusts. temperatures in the 40s and 50s out the door. the reason we are seeing breezy conditions is a system passing through. we are seeing showers north of us so no showers here in the bay area but we are seeing a little more cloud cover and we'll have a full look at the extended forecast and some rain that will be back in the forecast in just a little bit. so that's a look at your weather. let's go to elizabeth with traffic. >> thank you, kristy. dublin interchange, 580 approaching the 680 interchange. obviously, all these headlights in the commute direction where

the bulk of traffic is this morning. so far so good across that stretch. we do still have the wind advisory on westbound 580 out of the altamont pass. so yeah, watch out for that. eastbound traffic, by the way, is nice and light, gets by just fine if you're heading towards livermore. winds are the big traffic story this morning. we have several wind advisories. i mentioned the one out of the altamont pass. we also have several for the bridges including one for the san mateo bridge and one for the bay bridge. obviously, visibility is an issue. you can't even see the westbound 92 traffic. we'll talk about mass transit coming up. back to you. >> thank you. a town cut in half by a massive tornado. at least 89 people are dead and this morning, the national guard is looking for survivors in missouri. joel brown shows us the damage in joplin. reporter: the trail of destruction stretches for miles in joplin, missouri. dozens are feared dead after the massive tornado tore through this town of 50,000

sunday leveling entire neighborhoods. >> one minute it was just barely sprinkling. the next minute, boy, just the whole world just upside-down. >> reporter: residents say there was little warning before the monster storm blew in, flipping over cars and twisting metal around trees. when the storm passed, emergency official rushed in heavy equipment to sift through the rubble and search for survivors. but phone power lines are down, making the operation even more difficult. the national guard has been called in and missouri's governor has declared a state of emergency. president obama issued a statement late sunday expressing his deepest condolences to the victims' families. he also directed fema to help with response and recovery efforts. the joplin twister was just one of several tornadoes that barreled across the midwest this weekend. >> if it comes this way, run. >> reporter: a family in lacrosse, wisconsin, caught this funnel cloud on camera as it marched toward their backyard. no one was seriously injured, but the powerful weather system

wreaked plenty of havoc, tearing roofs off homes and turning streets into debris fields. another tornado in minneapolis killed at least one person. the storm sent huge trees crashing down on homes. >> all type of stuff flying around the house. >> reporter: residents tried to clear some of the mess sunday, but there could be more to come soon. later today, forecasters are calling for another round of violent weather. joel brown, cbs news, washington. another bay area horse has been diagnosed with the herpes virus. this case has been reported at a stable in marin. it is just the latest among 14 statewide. they all appear to have originated at a competition in utah last month. many northern california ranchers are now keeping their animals in their pens to avoid spreading the virus. a chain store threatening to go to court for the right to open a store in san francisco's richmond district. petco wants to move into an old walgreens store on geary boulevard but san francisco supervisors are now working on a bill to ban pet chain stores

in that area. overall later on today. out the door, in addition to seeing those gusty winds along the bay shores and the coast, we will see those partly cloudy conditions. temperatures sitting in the high 40s to the low 50s. this afternoon, plenty of sunshine especially in the inland spots where we'll reach the low 70s but we'll continue to see those gusty conditions along the bay shores up to 20 miles an hour there. up to 30 miles an hour at the coast. so be prepared to have some hair whipping in your face as you make your way outside. the reason for that is that we actually have a low that's passing through. we are sitting between two systems that's bringing that wind to the bay area. as this area of high pressure builds in, we'll calm things down temporarily but then you will see another low is going to make its way into the bay bringing us a chance of showers on wednesday. but for today, you get to enjoy that sunshine and temperatures that look like this. 69 is the high in mountain view. 68 for milpitas. 70 for morgan hill, also 70 in campbell today. pittsburg topping out at 72. pleasant hill at 70. a little cooler in oakland at 67. same story for berkeley and up into the north bay cool
