bring a car. >> that's right. it is monday, january 19th. i'm michelle griego. >> yeah high everyone, i'm -- hi everyone, i'm frank mallicoat. nearly 4:30 exactly right now and roberta is here to answer the big question. >> which one is that? >> where'd the weekend go? >> i know right? >> with did it go? >> it went way too fast and we did have a little bit of light rain showers across the bay area as we had forecasted. today the big notable weather story happens to be the high tides that will cause some minor coastal flooding. right now we have areas of patchy dense fog into the 50s and later today we're talking about high temperatures into the 60s under a partly to mostly cloudy sky. details still straight ahead. and that fog will affect your drive this morning. there's a fog advisory for the bay bridge as well as santa clara valley but the good news is it's very quiet the morning, no accidents just one construction project. it's northbound 880 between marina and washington but so far so good. martin luther king jr. holiday i think you may get a little broke. >> all right thanks. it was a long day for passengers on a plane headed for hawaii from the oakland
airport. hawaiian airlines flight 47 turned back and made an unscheduled landing at mineta san jose airport. the problem was a cracked in windshield. the boeing 767 landed a little before noon yesterday. the passengers got off the plane and were given meal vouchers while the airline worked on the problem. a little after midnight this morning before they were on another plane on their way to hawaii more than 12 hours behind schedule. >> be tired when they get there. one of the newest cases of measles in california is in alameda county. 51 cases are now reported in an outbreak that started last month four of them are in alameda county. the rest are in southern california and out of the state. health officials expect the outbreak will continue to spread too. some of the patients had been to disneyland the last month and many of them had not been vaccinated. a woman walking along the cliff in san francisco slipped and fell nearly five stories. i want happened near the -- it happened near the legion of honor yesterday afternoon and firefighters stay woman fell on
to some rocks below. rescuers had the get her from the batter in a rescue boat and personal water craft and they were able to pull her to safety. the extent of her injuries is unclear. there's also a rescue in the far southern end of the bay. a small fishing boat with two people on it became stuck in the mud near the marina in san jose. the boaters used cell phones to guide firefighters to them. they were brought back to shore three hours later and rescuers say people get stuck in that area on a weekly basis. a full check of weather now on a monday morning. all kinds of stuff going on. >> i had a little bit of condensation on the windshield from the fog this morning. good morning everybody but the big store ware is the coincides -- weather story is the king tides that will affect the bay area for the next three days. out the door right now we have mostly cloudy skies is and one more look at the golden gate bridge. very quiet out there with areas of patchy dense fog. our temperatures are very mild as well. we lack a wind and currently we
are in the low and mid- 50s. highs today under partly to mostly cloudy skies will top off anywhere from 60 in pacifica to the low and mid- 60s across the bay. 60s common into the end ran area -- inland areas. high tide today at 9:58. we do expect some minor coastal flooding and low lying areas. also some pretty vigorous rip tides with low tide which happens later on this afternoon around 4:45ish. it looks like we've got nothing but hey sunshine on tap -- hay psi sunshine on tap through the weekend and spare the air and when you should expect that again. but good morning to gianna. checking the roadways right now so far so good. chp is saying no accidents so that's good news. b.a.r.t., ferries golden gate ferries, caltrain, ace, mostly running on schedule. do check the schedule though because the holiday b.a.r.t. is on a saturday schedule as
well as golden gate ferries and there are changes to the last a.c.e. train they hadding into -- heading into fremont. use caution as you go across the upper and lower deck especially into san francisco. overall a nice ride into san francisco and no delays along 880 and oakland. just roadwork north 880 from washington to marina. that will be in effect for at least another half hour. back to you. it is 4:34 now. investigators are looking into the death of a fitness model who was hit by a train in southern california. greg plitt appeared on more than 200 magazine covers during his career. he also appeared in commercials as well as tv shows like soap opera "days of our lives" and workout. he and two other men were shooting a workout video in a restricts area when he was struck by a metro link train on saturday. investigators have ruled out suicide saying the 37-year-old may have believed the train was on a parallel track. a daly city man is under arrest for an attack in a
parking lot of a sonoma county das know. the victim was creeping in the passenger -- sleeping in the passenger seat of her car while her boyfriend was in the casino around 3:00 yesterday morning. a man got into the driver's seat and the attached the woman with a wrench and robbed her. guards heard the woman screaming and chased the man away. the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. the suspect was arrested when he returned to get his car from the parking lot. bill cosby performed before a packed house in the central valley last night. the show went on with no problems despite allegations of sexual assault from numerous women. more now from reporter clamor abrams. >> reporter: no trouble tonight for big cosby from the community theater. even the people from this small town were surprised to see the amount of support he received after months of uproar over sexual assault allegations. [ applause ] bill cosby, greeted inside the turlock community theater with applause and cheers coming from
a packed auditorium. >> because my oven said did you do what i told you to do? >> reporter: our cell phone camera roll on the jokes and laughs but odds it was no laugh -- outside it was no laughing matter. >> i told people i will be the only person that comes out here today. >> reporter: sueset was the only protester to show up and remained undeterred with a sign reading -- i believe the women. >> i believe very strongly that this whole situation is a testament to how women have been treated [ chanting ] >> reporter: at a cosby performance in denver saturday night a large crowd of protesters chanted rape is not a joke and no means no. >> no. not at all. >> reporter: but fans in turlock heard none of it and like hampton back up their favorite comedian as long as he hasn't been charged or proven guilty of anything. >> it hasn't changed my view at
all. >> reporter: and the theater refuse to return tickets to those who changed their minds. and cosby returns to the central valley next month performing in bakersfield and at last check that will go an as planned. in turlock, kpix 5. >> cosby's set to perform at the flint center in cupertino on june 7th. at the home of vice president joe biden there's extra security. that's after someone fired several gunshots outside the home saturday night. it came from a car speeding past biden's property. the bidens were out for the evening when it happened and their home is not visible from the highway. no one was hurt. and there are no suspects. 4:37 now. today protesters plan a fourth straight day of demonstrations in oakland. with the martin luther king jr. holiday set to begin at 11:00 this morning at the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station. four people arrested last night in connection with the protests in oakland and police say the
arrests were for a variety of crimes including assault on police officers. in addition 17 other people were issued citations. oprah winfrey was among the large crowd in selma, alabama to mark a significant moment in our nation's history. ♪ ♪ winwinfrey members of the cast from "selma" and thousands of people marched the same route martin luther king jr. took to fight for voting rights during the 1960 civil rights movement. winfrey is a producer of the movie "selma" which has landed an oscar nomination for best picture. and dr. king made many visits to the bay area. this is kpix 5 film that was taken in 1967 and at the time, the apollo moon program was going on and we were falling into more and more discord on earth. it was april 4th, 1967, and dr. king was here to talk about investing in america's youth.

incomes and a stronger middle class. >> and that state of the union address can be seen live tomorrow night at 6:00 right here on kpix 5. the stage is set for super bowl xlvix. the seattle seahawks will defend their title against the new england patriots. the seahawks overcame a 16-0 deficit against the visiting green bay packers yesterday. then in overtime, a seattle touchdown gave the seahawks a 28-22 win. and then the nfc championship. hurts a little to say that doesn't it? the afc championship game not so exciting though. >> this does not hurt. >> no. san mateo native tom brady and the patriots just walloped the visiting indianapolis colts 45- 7. wow. super bowl is set for february 1st in glendale, arizona. and the nfl announced it is extending its thursday night football contract with cbs for another year. next season cbs will again broadcast the first eight thursday night games and those

smell. but what exactly it is and where it's coming from remain a mystery to julie and her team. >> the product that these birds are being contaminated with we don't know what it is. >> reporter: the spill was found at hayward regional park friday. all weekend, rescuers have been scooping the birds up to safety and bringing them back to the lab where they are fed and given a warm bed. >> there's not a whole lot of options for these animals. >> reporter: but as far as cleaning the mystery goo off their feathers, soap, baking soda, vinegar, nothing has worked. >> there's a fear that we won't be able to get it ollav. >> reporter: as hard as silicone it gets deep in their feathers. the birds stop eating and soon dehydration and hypothermia set in. >> this whole process is stressful for them. >> reporter: rescuers think a couple hundred birds could be covered by whatever this is. and they have a stern message for whomever put this gunk in the bay. >> i'm not only is it just environmentally irresponsible, but you know for it to affect
as many -- this number of animals would be very upsetting. >> reporter: in fairfield, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> and because this is not an oil spill, the international bird rescue says it won't get any state money to help. they're now asking for donations to help save those birds. and if you like to help you can find the link at kpix.com. parts of the northeast are getting hit with a strong winter storm. the weather is linked to a few deadly traffic accidents. icy conditions are blamed for this pileup on interstate 476 in king of prussia, pennsylvania. two people were killed in that accident. well, we're -- we're sitting pretty here. a little bit of dew and some fog. but no nasty weather to speak of huh? >> right. the only concern and it is a concern at this particular time is high tides. we have the sun and we have the earth. we have the moon all in perfect alignment. so about by 9:0824 morning we're going to start to see some high tide and we could possibly see minor flooding as a result.
good morning everybody. out the door we have some areas of patchy dense fog otherwise no dense fog advisories in effect. here's the scene looking out towards the bay waters. we're looking at the easterly direction towards oakland and alameda. currently air temperature anything from 50 in santa rosa the about an outside number of 55 degrees in livermore and also in san francisco. oakland checking if with a pair of 5s as well. this is a scene looking out to sfo where we have some haze. again, patchy dense fog out the door this morning. some very mild temperatures. and it will be partly to mostly cloudy on this holiday. and again king tides high tide, 9:09. we do have a coastal statement a flood statement in effect saying just be mindful of some low lying flooding today also there's a risk of some very vigorous rip currents later on this afternoon when we have low tide occurring. nothing is going on the out there. it's very -- on out there. it's very quiet. we have high pressure in command and we have some clouds all associated with that area of low pressure to the north of us. so that's why we'll call it partly to mostly cloudy for
this monday. meanwhile around the state we're talking about 56 degrees the state capitol. once the fog washes out. 53 in fresno. low 60s in monterey bay through caramel. upper 40s it's springtime skiing in the greater lake tahoe area. the numbers between 60 in pacifica about 66 will be the outside number today and that will be in the gilroy area. northwest breeze 5 to 10. 61 degrees in san francisco when the average high is 57 degrees. here we reveal the extended forecast and what do you see? it's really what you don't see. and that's any rain and frank you got to take a look at the temperatures over the weekend. we're talking about 70s? that's just wrong. it's wrong. we should be in the 50s. so -- >> yeah frank. >> yeah. >> well it's not my fault. i say enjoy it. the rain will come. >> i say if you want to track this weather all you have to do is get the cbs bay area weather app and you can get realtime radar and it is how you do it. you have to search kpix 5 when you go to the app store. and you download the cbs bay
area weather app. it's now available for both iphone and androids. all right, checking the roadways right now. foggy conditions as roberta said and that will affect the drive this morning. we have a dense fog advisory for the bay bridge. but very light traffic conditions. no delays just a few cars there approaching the toll plaza. overall traffic looks really good into san francisco. no delays out of san francisco into oakland and come off the east shore freeway traffic is really nice this morning. all right taking a drive across the san mateo bridge. so far so good. 14 minute ride to go between 880 and 101. no delays there. also a very light ride across the golden gate bridge. here's a few cars this morning. looks like a 14 minute ride southbound 101. 580 to the golden gate bridge toll plaza and very light conditions also if you work your way northbound over into marin county and no delays through sausalito. checking 880 right now, we do have some roadwork near marina and washington but again, that should be wrapped up within the next ten minutes. looks like 880 through oakland seeing some nice conditions right now. northbound clear 238 to the maze southbound no delays as
you head out of oakland into hayward. even for san leandro traffic is very light. 14 minutes right now altamonte pass to 680 and again out of tracy is really where we have just a few brake lights but not bad at all. into livermore valley traffic is moving along really nicely. no delays at the dublin interchange either and checking the drive times along the peninsula. fog reported near move it field along 101 through that area. you might have limited vicinity there for the freeways but overall easy driving. 92 no problems and elsewhere checking your drive along 237, that connector westbound to 880 an easy ride this morning. and an overview of the south bay we're clocking in some nice speeds overall. north 101 no problems looks like a lot guadalupe parkway in the green as well. good news for the traffic. back to you guys. all right thank you. gas prices in the u.s. remain at five year lows thanks to the falling price of crude oil.
aaa says prices tend to be lower in parts of the country near refineries which turn the crude into usable gasoline. locally here are the average prices by metro area -- this is according to gas buddy -- hey good right? >> i think you can do better actually. i got $2.40 the other day. tens of thousands of dollars worth of drones are stolen from an l. a. business and the heist was all caught on camera. >> reporter bobby kaple shows us the brazen thieves made no effort to hide their crime or identities. >> reporter: security cameras catching these thieves red- handed as they broke into this west lake village business stealing close to $50,000 worth of high-tech drones and camera equipment from dronefly.com. at one point, you can hear one of the two men yelling out what should understand like the name -- sounds like the name paul as
he continues to grab drone after drone throwing them out the front door. >> they broke the glass on the front door. completely shattered it. tossed the brick through it. >> reporter: william sloan works there and says this is among the big ticket items that the men got away with. an inspire one drone which has a mounted stabilized camera and was just released. >> that's just the starting point. and they stole -- you know, ten to 12 of them and as well as all of the other gear that gets installed. so i mean we're looking at around $50,000 worth of equipment as well as the camera stuff. >> reporter: sloan says cameras did catch the men casing the building prior to break-in. the drones that were stolen may be hard to track because some are mass produced. however the company does have insurance. >> and that was bobby kaple reporting. in addition to the security cameras, drone fly is also increasing its security with new 24 hour human patrols. >> yep. they are popular. >> they are. time now 4:51. a san jose family is thanking firefighters for saving their
san jose police don't think alcohol played a role in a crash that killed a man in a wheelchair. officers say the victim was trying to cross the road near white road when he was hit on sunday morning. he die to understand scene. the driver -- died on the scenet. driver stayed and cooperated and police say he is cooperating with that investigation. in south san jose a fire did considerable damage to the dental office here. it broke out shortly after 2:00 yesterday on blossom hill road near hailen avenue. the fire was out in an hour and no word on what may have caused this fire, nobody was injured.
the search ended for two teenagers suspected of a string of crimes. police in panama city beach in florida took an 18-year-old man and his 13-year-old girlfriend into custody shortly after midnight. they found them sleeping in a pickup truck that had been stolen in georgia. authorities say the couple stole three vehicles. starting in kentucky and also used stolen checks in south carolina. a san jose family is thanking firefighters for saving their dog just in time. an electrical outlet sparking a fire at a near in sunny drive near the valley fair mall on sunday morning. no one but the dog was inside the home. firefighters used a thermal imaging device to find the miniature dachshund. he was apparently hiding under the bed and wasn't injured. the red cross is now helping that family of five find shelter. you have to look at what happened to a man involved in a wreck in oregon. thatst a pickup truck sandwiched between two tractor- trailers. not much left. look closely and you can see a 27-year-old kaleb whitby
trapped in the wreckage and he's very much alife. he was part of a 26 vehicle pileup on the interstate because of black ice. over the weekend he smashed and flipped his pickup over and another big rig slammed into his truck and he walked away with just a couple of minor scratches. lucky guy. 4:56 on your monday. questions are being raised after a model is struck and killed on a southern california train track. the big mistake authorities believe might have cost this man his life. >> as the measles outbreak spans the state a new study shows hot spots in the bay area. where children

mallicoat. it is 4:59. bright and early and new this morning, a new study details extremely high concentrations of unvaccinated children here in northern california. >> kpix 5 reporter ryan takeo shows us where the most undervaccinated hot spots are. >> reporter: there are a couple of hot spots in the north bay but undervaccination actually spans a large part of the bay area. the kaiser study was released today in the journal of pediatrics and warns the spots may pose public health risks. in vallejo almost 23% of children don't have vaccinations. at least one vaccination. in the east bay from richmond to san leandro that number is almost 19%. 18% of kids are not vaccinated in parts of san francisco and marin county it's about the same percentage in sonoma and napa counties. outside the hot spots the average is about 11%. kaiser says the main reason for the numbers is parents' hesitancy or sometimes refusal to vaccinate their children.
