[ julie, no microphone ] >> you know, good shopping weather, no rain just yet. in fact, we're tracking hi-def doppler. you can see where the rain is at this hour. still well to our north. although it is heading our way. we'll have details on that coming up, rain for you coming up first in a bit. >> let's head from marin into san francisco via the golden gate bridge. 580 to golden gate toll plaza will take 14 minutes. along the bay bridge toll plaza, those metering lights will turn on around 5:30 this morning so expect they delay through the toll into the city. carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will take you 19 minutes. across the span of the bay bridge, five minutes between
880 and 101. the manhunt continues for two inmates who broke out of the main jail in santa clara county. kpix 5's andria borba explains how they escaped. >> reporter: the inmates broke out of the oldest part of the jail, which was built in 1950. two of those four men are still not back behind bars. using saws to cut steel bars and knotting bedsheets together to shimmy out it was a jail break straight out of a hollywood script but officials in santa clara county say this wasn't fiction. >> the fact that these bars were cut the way they were, um, it wasn't something that he just, you know, thought of in a minute. it's something that probably took some previous planning. >> reporter: it happened wednesday night just after 11 p.m. when four inmates escaped from the second floor of the jail in san jose. two men were back in cuffs almost immediately. the two inmates laron campbell and rojelio chavez were able to make a break for it. a manhunt for the duo went on
overnight and stretched into the early-morning hours. that's when surveillance video revealed chavez and campbell were likely long gone. >> as the search continued we obtained video surveillance footage which indicated that the suspect had already been outside the perimeter. >> reporter: the santa clara sheriff's office says campbell and chavez's rap sheets including robbery, false imprisonment and extortion. >> based on their crimes and history, they are dangerous. so again, we're taking every precaution. you know, again, that's why we want to to reiterate to the public that you know, these inmates are dangerous. >> reporter: santa clara county officials say if you run into these men, consider them armed and dangerous and call 911 immediately. in san jose, andria borba, kpix 5. a south san francisco police officer is in the hospital this morning after being attacked. the weapon, a skateboard. police say the suspect caused a disturbance on grand avenue
around 2:20 yesterday afternoon when a responding officer arrived police say the skateboarder lifted his board and hit the officer in the head. that officer is in critical condition this morning. the suspect is in custody. well, when people think about tv moms, florence henderson is often the first who come to mind. the actress/singer died yesterday. we look back her at career including her role on the brady bunch. ♪[ music ] >> reporter: that lovely lady is florence henderson, who played america's favorite mom carol brady on the 1970s hit tv sitcom, the brady bunch. but her real story wasn't so ideal. ♪[ music ] >> reporter: born in 1934 in indiana, henderson grew up poor with an alcoholic father and a mother who left when she was 12. henderson used her singing talent to entertain the family and help make ends meet. >> i never remember not
singing. i would sing and pass the hat and sing for groceries. >> reporter: her break in 1951 when she starred in oklahoma! the singer turned actor went to tv. she was the today girl and became the first woman to guest host the tonight show in 1962. then in 1969, henderson became carol brady. >> i created the kind of mother that i wished i had had and i think that everyone longed for. i get so much fan mail from all over the world. and everybody wants a hug from me and i hug everybody. i get so much affection. ♪[ music ] >> reporter: henderson continued to act and sing on tv for decades after the braid bunch. she chachaed her way into our living rooms in 2010 on "dancing with the stars." [ applause and cheers ] >> reporter: henderson had four children with her first husband
ira bernstein. she met her second husband a hypnotherapist while undergoing treatment for stage fright and a fear of flying. >> people used to kid john and say, you -- you hypnotized her. >> reporter: the treatment worked so well she became a certified hypnotherapist herself. henderson became a patient of a different kind when at the height of her career, she started to lose her hearing. >> you can't imagine for someone who makes her living through music and when you all of a sudden don't hear that piano or that violin, light instrument, it is the most terrifying feeling in the world. >> reporter: doctors discovered she had an ear disease. but after multiple surgeries, henderson's hearing was restored. i have teflon in my ears. >> reporter: she always looked on the bright side. >> here's how i feel about it. if you are not having fun, you shouldn't be there. >> say good night, florence. >> good night, everyone. >> she will be missed.
henderson died at a hospital in los angeles. florence henderson was 82. some bay area shoppers left their thanksgiving dinners to head to the store. multiple places were open all night hoping nevada shoppers come in to take -- black friday shoppers come in to take advantage of deals. betty yu asked them, is it worth it? >> reporter: this is how hundreds of shoppers are starting their holiday season. waiting for hours outside the target store in colma which opened at 6 p.m. what time did you get here? >> 11 a.m. >> reporter: she knew what she wanted. >> samsung galaxy 55", 697, regular $1,099. >> reporter: do you think it's worth it? >> why not get it on amazon online, i don't know? >> i just wanted to stand here. this is the fun part. >> reporter: this is the fun part? [ laughter ] >> it's fun to freeze. [ laughter ] >> it's like a representual. we gotta do it every year. >> reporter: what about thanksgiving dinner? >> we eat that later.
>> reporter: many people are after the hottest toy this season. >> sold out everywhere. so i been standing for four hours to get this for christmas. >> reporter: inside, shoppers grabbed tvs, dvds and stuffed bears. >> reporter: at kohl's the hottest item according to this colma store, used to be on these two shelves. the slr cameras, sold out in minutes. this weekend is important to set the tone for the shopping season. experts are predicting a slight increase in sales over last year. >> we're going to continue to watch that. we'll see how this weekend goes but right now we are optimistic we'll have a great season. >> reporter: in colma, betty yu, kpix 5. in emoryville, the line snaked around the best buy building with shoppers waiting national cold for blowout sales. some people spent the night on the sidewalk just to get first dibs on the big items like tvs

rain stay well to the north. hi-def doppler showing a little bit up near ukiah in the northern portion of the state but most of the north bay and most of the bay will stay dry today. here's a look outside at the bridge. clear skies overhead. temperatures a little chilly out the door near 35 in livermore, 39 santa rosa, 49 san francisco and 42 in san jose. visibility actually pretty good this morning. we have ten miles plus at all of our major reporting stations although there is a little patchy fog and if you are heading up to the high country today maybe through sacramento, central valley, keep in mind that we are seeing some of that valley fog today so certainly reduced visibility there. back here in the bay area, temperatures are mild today. we are talking low 60s for most folks today. mid-60s for the warmest spots. 59 napa. 60 concord, 62 livermore. your weather headlines mainly dry today. steady rain begins saturday morning continues another round late saturday night possibly
lingering into sunday although at this point sunday looks mostly dry. how much rain? the first round not a lot. we are talking less than a quarter inch for folks in the south bay. maybe near half inch in the north bay but this is by saturday afternoon. remember, i said a second round comes in saturday night. here that is increasing rainfall totals up above three- tenths to nearly half inch for some spots. here's roqui. >> it is 4:40. good morning, everyone. okay. it is black friday. we have a lot of mass transit changes for you so listen closely if that's going to be part of your day. bart all trains no delay, so that's the good news. ace all trains have no service. muni has no express buses. and caltrain is on a saturday schedule. let's move to another golden gate mass transit situation here. golden gate transit no commuter bus. you have golden gate ferries will be on a reduced schedule. the sf bay ferries no harbor bay and no south san francisco.

been found alive after being freed by her captors. steve large has the latest. >> reporter: this is where sherri papini's forry starts at 4:30 a.m. -- story starts at 4:30 a.m. she was found bound and gagged. she flagged down help. a remaining evidence marker lays at the scene where investigators were trying to piece together any details in the disappearance and thanksgiving day discovery of missing mother sherri papini found alive in this tiny community of yolo. >> big news for the town. then we found out it was good news so that's always good to hear on thanksgiving. >> reporter: police dispatch recordings of her discovery included initial reports she was chained to something and heavily battered. a driver who stopped to help papini called the police. >> her husband was notified.
they used their cell phone and connect sherri papini with her husband by cell phone. >> reporter: the sheriff told reporters he doesn't know why she was released now or why here or where she has been held for the past three weeks. >> she wasn't able to provide that specific information. i'm not able to release all the information that she was able to provide us at this time. >> witnesses say investigators looked in the area where she was found. a mother missing for three weeks found alive released by her captors now reunited with her husband and children. a happy thanksgiving for she and her family. now the investigation continues into who held her captive. in yolo, steve large, kpix 5. a modesto home goes up in flames. inside, firefighters make a gruesome discovery.
this is the scene tuesday night. neighbors captured this video after an explosion woke up the neighborhood. firefighters were eventually able to put out the fire but as they were sifting through the rubble they found the bodies of two children and their grandparents. neighbors say the grandparents were raising the children. >> they were a good family. he walked the kids to the gates to the bus in the morning and waited for them outside to pick them up. >> autopsies will be performed monday. the cause of the fire is under investigation. 4:47. let's check weather. a lot of people will be out there shopping so you want to know, did they bring their umbrellas? >> no umbrellas today but this weekend, absolutely. in fact, today you should spend putting up your christmas lights because saturday not a great time to do that. let's look at hi-def doppler. we are tracking the approaching storm system right now. hammering the pacific northwest. and bringing rain to the northern portion of the state. in fact, you see it there a closer look shows a little bit of rain in ukiah this morning
but overall we are going to stay dry here. here's a look at that system on the satellite and you can see it is a pretty impressive system. we are not going to see a lot of rain out of this system. but we are definitely going to get a wet day on saturday. futurecast can time it out for you. so we're starting off dry today and then here we are around 4 a.m. we start to see those clouds rolling on in friday. and then to our north the showers begin. north bay first, overnight saturday, though, making their way inland. and really filling in throughout the day saturday. here we are saturday night when a second wave rolls through. could see some lingering showers on in through sunday. but then drying out mainly on sunday. and continuing on into monday. again a possibility of a couple of scattered showers but overall, looking pretty dry once we get through saturday. so headlines mainly dry today steady rain for saturday morning and then another round of rain comes through late saturday, the evening into early morning sunday and then we are going to dry out on
sunday likely am so sunrise today 7:01. sunset this evening 4:53. and we are going to see the sunset. you will see some increasing cloud around then but a beautiful sunset in store not going to see a lot of rain just yet. that is still though on the way. right now, temperatures outside as you head out the door maybe doing a little black friday shopping in the 30s and 40s. 35 livermore. 39 santa rosa. 49 san francisco. high temperatures in the low 60s today. so close to average. certainly on the cool side. 58 in santa rosa. 59 in napa. 53 mountain view. 64 in san jose today. 62 in fairfield. a look ahead to this weekend and the raiders game on sunday, mixture of sun and clouds mostly dry by then. temperatures near 59 at game time, 1:25. and a holiday ice rink remember if you are heading out rain saturday so embarcadero center 60 degrees rain on saturday.
likely going to get some drier weather on sunday. in fact, here's a look at the extended forecast. again, dry today. rain in the north bay today, saturday rain. sunday we start to dry out continuing monday and a cool week next week but right now the seven-day forecast is looking dry. we have a look at your roads and also couple of updates as you head out for black friday. so let's take a look now at the bay bridge toll plaza. if you are heading into downtown san francisco, it's a good time. those metering lights will be on around 5:30 this morning and that's when traffic will start to slow down here at the toll plaza. carquinez bridge along the eastshore freeway to the maze will take you 20 minutes. heading into the city today keep in mind parking meters and seven-day street sweeping areas are in force. but what's not in force are residential permit parking so that's good news. then let's head to the nimitz freeway in oakland here. a look live 238 in san leandro to the maze will just take you 16 minutes. and the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city that's 880 to 101, that will be a
quick 14 minutes. roads are clear right now. but also back to san francisco, tonight critical mass bike ride is at 6 p.m. and also the union square tree lighting ceremony begins at 6 p.m. for the tree lighting at union square, those roads start to shut down early at 3 p.m. so the city will be kind of chaotic tonight but, of course, a beautiful evening for everyone to enjoy. i'll send it to you. >> all right, roqui. thank you. it was the text seen around the world. a phoenix-based grandmother accidentally sent a thank invitation via text to a complete stranger. then when she discovered her mistake, she invited him to dinner anyway. yesterday that grandma wanda dent and the stranger she texted jamal hinton met for the first time. amanda goodman has the story. >> i'm so excited. jamal is coming to have thanksgiving dinner with us. >> reporter: it's the thanksgiving dinner of twitter's dreams. >> you have to send me a picture. >> i will of course. >> reporter: jamal hinton and wanda dent strangers just a
week ago now breaking bread and the internet. >> it's really touched my heart from all the people out there that have said the kindest things to me. i never expected this in a million years to happen to me. >> i love just being here. feel like we could connect more and bond. >> reporter: she sent up a text firming up thanksgiving plans and hinton responded and selfies ensued. >> it was not my grandma. i thought why not ask for a plate? jokingly. and she was very welcoming and let me in. >> reporter: he posted the exchange on twitter and people couldn't get in. the reaction overwhelmingly supportive of making this thanksgiving dinner happen. dench's family was, too. >> i had no idea this was going to happen. you know? i was just, um, embarrassed, you know, that i sent the picture to a total stranger. >> reporter: hinton's family wasn't able to attend due to a scheduling conflict and he admits he almost didn't make it either. >> i'm not going to lie i did

let's start out with weather and traffic on this black friday. good morning julie and roqui. good morning, everyone. it's friday, it's november 25. you're taking a look at the beautiful bay bridge this morning. hopefully you've recovered from all the food you ate yesterday. i'm still trying to recover. we'll start with traffic and weather on this black friday.
good morning to you. >> good morning to you. i think we also have too much tryptophan in your system this morning. hopefully you do. waking up slowly heading out for those black friday sales. >> very busy on the roads with all the black friday sales. and people want to know, is it good shopping weather, now, i think it will be some good shopping weather. a little chilly to start out your day. the good news is we are holding the rain off for one more day. so dry but here's a look at hi- def doppler where the rain is now. still well to our north. we will see some showers make their way inland starting in the north bay overnight tonight and then heading south tomorrow. but for today, black friday, skies are clear. and temperatures are cool as you head out this morning. we are topping out in the mid- 30s for livermore right now. near 40 in santa rosa. 41 in san jose. 42 in concord at this hour. visibility-wise, not too bad. so that's good news on the roads. we are looking at plenty of visibility. in fact, more than 10 miles at all our reporting stations officially but take a look
