3 (bill)>> we begin this 3 morning with an update to a story we have been following on news 4... a longstanding lawsuit over the splitting of reno and truckee meadows fire agencies is now settled.the lawsuit was filed in september of 2014 by the city over unresolved costs from the 2012 deconsolidation of the agencies.so, now that things are settled what does that mean for each side...under the settlement, both sides have agreed to drop financial claims against the other.and the district will pay back workers compensation money it began withholding when reno filed the suit.in the end, truckee meadows will pay more
worker's comp... plus interest to the city of reno.during yesterday's meeting... mayor hillary schieve actually brought up the possibility of consolidating the agencies again.here's what truckee meadows fire deputy chief tim leighton had to say about that. 3 (("whether it's my thoughts or someone else's thoughts, once again it's up the elected officials to set policy for both organizations and we're going to follow the direction that they give and if that's the direction they choose that's the route we take.")) 3 (bill)>> as for the settlement... mayor hillary schieve says she was so excited to make the announcement and prove that both the city and county could work together.... and stop spending taxpayer's money on this lawsuit. 3 (samantha)>> in a 4 to 2 vote... city council members also approved a 116-thousand dollar donation for the virginia lake water quality project.the donation allows for less money to be used from the capital improvement project and will help clean up the lake and the surrounding environment
crisis continues to be a nightmare for residents and state officials in michigan. evidence shows lead may have been poisoning the water in flint for more than a year.but a state of emergency wasn't declared until three weeks ago. lead poisoning has very serious and dire health consequences. the situation is being called a national disgrace .. but this has happened in other american cities before. our water provider... the truckee meadows water authority... or tmwa... is weighing in on the issue... in this morning's "on your side" report... 3 ((sot: could what happened in flint michigan happen here? the situation in flint michigan really would not be likely to happen here just because of the way our infrastructure is set up. we're a much newer infrastructure, we have no lead pipe and we really do have a consistent water source. (samantha)>> "will raymond" says the dirty water in flint should have sounded alarms that something was terribly wrong.they say a change in water source .. lead pipes and a mix of the wrong

futurecast.3 3 (sam)>> on the crime police are looking for a fifth vehicle that may have been involved in a crash- turned deadly shooting. monday evening... a reno police officer shot a man who allegedly took out a knife after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash.sparks police detective ken gallop says the suspect ... sergio alvarado-morales ... held the knife to his own throat after the crash near meadowood mall. gallop said the man moved toward officers after they gave warnings and used a taser. that's when they reportedly shot him. 3 (sam)>> no one else was seriously injured. several reno officers have been placed on administrative leave as sparks police take over the investigation. 3 (bill)>> and university police are investigating a report of a robbery and assault that happened yesterday afternoon.they say it occurred in the west stadium parking garage about 3 o'clock.police say they're interviewing the victim, and are still trying to figure out which of her belongings were
suspects that were seen leaving the scene, heading north on virginia street. they are described as two white males wearing jeans and masks. anyone with information can call university police at the number on your screen. 3 (samantha)>> making legal news this morning... a federal judge has denied a new trial for a nevada trucking company... after a crash killed six people in 2011. battle mountain based "john davis trucking" is now ordered to pay more than 4- point-5 million dollars in damages to amtrak after one of their trucks crashed into a train.it happened about 60 miles outside reno on highway 95.the jurors concluded an inattentive truck driver .. who was also killed .. was primarily to blame for the crash. 3 (samantha)>> and a jury has sided with the peppermill resort spa casino in an 8 million dollar trade secrets case brought by grand sierra resort. the reno gazette- journal reports that the verdict was handed down yesterday... after a two-week trial. grand sierra had filed its lawsuit in 2013 after a corporate analyst for

responded to news 4 in a statement saying:"in response to your question: there is an investigation underway at stead elementary school. a teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation." 3 (samantha)>> news 4 spoke with a couple of concerned parents. they say they're disappointed that the school did not inform all parents about the situation earlier. 3 ((i just hope that in the future that they react a little bit more faster because when it comes to children, you know, you teach the children , you know, how to try to defend themselves )) 3 (samantha)>> victoria campbell says washoe county school police are handling the investigation.she could not confirm when the reports were first made, or when the teacher was placed on leaveby state law, school officials are to make mandatory reports no later than 24 hours if it's suspected that a child is a victim of abuse. 3 (bill)>> it started at midnight.... northern
