the bay area is in clean up and repair mode tonight after a series of severe storms. damage is widespread. this video show as roadway in hillsboro. kron 4's reggie kumar explains that the repairs in this spot alone could take weeks. >> reporter: construction crews worked around the clock to stabilize this portion of woodridge road after last week's powerful storm caused the hillside to pull away from the road. explowsing this gas line and
water main. it road sank six feet. you can tell by looking it's lower than the road. police captain says city workers managed to save the road from crumbling and prevented a gas line ruptured. and watermain break. >> it opened the shoulder. at one point the roadway, north bound lane of woodridge road actually stayed in place but the soil sagged away, exposing a pg&e gas line and a water main. the pilings we put in over a 24 hour period to make sure the roadway stabilized. >> he is asking residents to be patient because construction on a new wall that will prevent the hill from eroding will not be finished for another six weeks and part of the road will
remain closed during that time. reggie kumar, kron 4 news. floodwaters stopped but they left behind damage there. yesterday the counsel made an emergency probing luimation because of a pipe burst causing $1 million in damage. four homes were red tagged. 39 were yellow tagged. authorities will keep an eye on their condition. as kron 4's rob fladeboe shows you, there is a lot of work to be done. >> residents say the wall of water and mud roaring down the main street here was 3 feet deep. it caused a lot of damage. let's look. you can see how the force of the water carved huge gullies in the road. tossing chunks of aspalt
around. teps and mobile homes are missing and damage underneath the homes to pumming and wiring. these homes suffered the most damage when the rains overwhelmed a drain pipe, diverting the floodwaters into the park and down hill into the village. repairing that pipe may cost $1 million. she and many of her neighbors will also need new carpet. cleaning up all that mud inside and outside. a handful are a total loss and virtually everyone has a yellow tag on it which means restricted use. because water and sewer are out. rob fladeboe, kron 4 news. our team coverage continues now with kron 4's kate thompson. >> workers continue to clear large trees and branches off a
sliding hillside hoping to protect the homes below. several homes remain yellow tagged. the residents living in hotels and the city declared a local state of emergency. menry are looking forward to a meeting on wednesday at city hall to get more answers about the safety of the hillside and what will be done to help them. kate thompson, kron 4 news. >> reporter: this might look like another hill in hercules. not the case. you can see that dirt. that is something you couldn't see two weeks ago. you look up against the houses and you can see it is hill versus house. to the right you can see a fence leaning against the second floor. you can see red dangerous tape. that is surrounded four houses. within the last two hours four additional houses have been
yellow tagged. you are not allowed to stay there overnight because of the instability of this hill. jr stone, kron 4 news. >> reporter: a big oak tree toppled over a power pole, forces crews to put in a new one. 100 people are without service and several streets are shut down so the crews can work. the ground is so saturated from the storms that the roofs just gave way. terisa estacio, kron 4 news. we got a much needed break from the pauing rains today -- pour rains today. temperatures today were into the 60s. 65 for santa rosa and napa. another storm is coming our way tomorrow. we are going to be spared the system as all the rain is forecast to stay to the north.
increasing clouds through the day. becoming mostly cloudily. wednesday the clouds are out of here and warmer temperatures, into the 70s everywhere, maybe even 80s. a san jose police officer is in the hospital tonight. this is officer devlin creighton and he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash that happened into hit and run. kron 4's jonathan bloom has more. >> reporter: a path to the spot where the crash happened. you can see the stains from a spilled glas lean. -- gasoline. officer devlin creighton survived because of his helmet, he is being treated for a slew
of injuries. the drivers that struck him took off in a blue honda accord. investigators say he was crossing when the honda pulled out in front of him. it's possible the driver had to stop because someone was pulling in or out of this parking lot. >> reporter: failing to yield. leaving the officer lying on the road and speeding off, that was a felony. >> we believe the individual in the car had to know at least somebody was in need of medical attention. >> 30 police officers swarmed the area but they couldn't find the car and now they want the public's help. the officer want to return to work when he is better. jonathan bloom, kron 4 news. the barry bonds trial. kron 4's dan kerman was in
court today with testimony from kimberly bell. >> kimberly bell took the wins stand monday and testified bonds admitted to her a elbow injury was due to steroids. he said it was not something he did all the time but it was the reason other players were getting ahead. bell also testified he exhibited some of the side effects with steroids. in addition to his body getting bigger bell said he had acne, his hair was falling out and she testified he became ageitated and impatient. he would get angry easily and made a variety of threats. bell testified said he would cut my head off and leave me in a. cut out my breast implants because he paid for them. the defense tried tocussion
bell's motives, suggesting she was angry and vindictive because bonds refused to pay off her home in arizona and when that happened she decided to go public discussing their relationship and his alleged steroid use. bell said she was not angry, simply hurt and never wanted the book's focus to be about steroid. dan kerman kron 4 news. >> still ahead, president obama addresses the nation about the situation in libya. we will tell you what he said and why he believes the u.s. must be involved. looking nice. sunshine and warmer temperatures. tomorrow a weak storm system brings clouds for tomorrow and maybe, outside chance for a couple sprinkles in sonoma county. outside of that we will remain dry. more sunshine, windy, though, warmer temperatures wednesday, i think most places will be in the 70s and possibly 80s on the way for thursday and into friday. a huge change in the weather pattern going from wet to dry and warmer. 2:00 a.m., this is the next system, producing rain tonight in eureka. these clouds slide to the south. by the morning, increasing high clouds across the bay area but mostly sunny. by the afternoon, skies mostly cloudy as the clouds continue to shift. all of the rain remains to the north. outside of a couple of sprinkles we will be spared the
