>> a city pauses to remember two firefighters killed in a line of duty. [music] >> we shall the sights and sounds as thousands of firefighters gather in san francisco to pay tribute to lieutenant vincent perez and firefighter paramedic anthony valerio. >> we know that they are heroes because of who they were and what they did. [music] >> at this was the scene today above st. mary's cathedral in san francisco as thousands of firefighters paid their final respects to attentive vincent perez and firefighter paramedic
anthony valerio. the fallen firefighters caskets are being loaded onto the fire engine for the last ride out to the cemetery. earlier today, st. mary's was packed to capacity. it was an eventful of dedications, wonderful memories of the man that lost their lives. [music] >> we bring vinnie and tony before god and we honor them for their service and the gift of their lives to the people of san francisco. [music]
>> i mourn the loss of my colleagues but also my friends, it was an honor to know you both. >> vincent and tony were our gentlest and our strength, they were to man their role models not in only how they died but most importantly how they lived. [music] >> tony had a passion for the job, he was a naturally talented people person. he could walk into a chaotic situation, diffuse the emotional fireworks, pick up the pieces and bring both insanity and levity to an
otherwise intents and dangerous called. >> there will be an investigation and everyone will want answers. they will question decisions that had to be made in a split second under the most dangerous circumstances. they will want to know why this happened, let me tell you. i know my brother, now i know in jan 26, they had a great leader on that day. i know that when engine 26 was properly trained and they were ready for that mission. although my brother had a strong-willed, nothing is greater than the will of god. make no mistake, these men are gladiators. they fight fire, one of the most powerful forces created by god, to save lives. to my brother, now you are free i will see you again but not yet. not yet.
[applause] [music] >> firefighters from all over the world paid their respects today. these are just some of the uniforms that were seen at the ceremony. grant elvis was at st. mary's cathedral today were the remarkable service took place. >> thousands gathered outside of st. mary's cathedral friday morning. some of the new vinson and tony, most not. firefighters came from near and far. >> there were people here from boston, new york, washington, canada, i heard them say they picked up some guys from alaska. >> rick gomez traveled from
houston tx. >> it is not closed, but this is our way for showing support for the brotherhood, letting them know that we feel their pain. we have lost seven firefighters in the past 10 years. we know what it is like to lose brothers and sisters in the line of duty. that is what we are here for, to show support. if it was us, they would do the same thing. >> snipers watch from above as firefighters, police officers, and citizens convened at the corner. below, the flag draped caskets were and unloaded and carried into st. mary's. the peninsula, after the service at st. mary's, friends of family and fellow firefighters took part in a dramatic recession at colma. that is where lieutenant vincent perez and anthony valerio were buried at holy cross cemetery. >> the fallen firefighters arrived here fully cross cemetery about 5:30 p.m.. the caskets were each aboard a different fire truck and draped with the american flag. each fire truck was followed by several vehicles carrying the families. the procession of fire trucks follow, the lines seem to go on forever. a small crowd stood outside the cemetery cheering on the firefighters that were part of the procession. firefighter serving as pallbearers will bring the bodies to the graveside for burial service, eventually the flags on top of the casket will be folded and presented
to the families and then the caskets will be lowered into the ground. the burial site is about 250 yds from a year, valerio and perez will be buried side by side. how >> there has been a steady stream of traffic outside of the census is go fire station 26, that is where lieutenant vincent perez and anthony valerio served. here is a live picture. charles clifford has been there all day long, he joins us with that part of the story. >> i would say about a half-hour ago, the firefighters who work here, were just starting to trickle back in from the free-throw--from the funeral and the procession. and they were putting away their gear, it looks like a lot of people are going in and coming out and heading home for the evening. >> most if not all of the firefighters at station 26 attended the funeral, things were quiet this , buut there was a few
people here and there. father michael quinn from the paris came by to offer commute into anyone inside. he says the death of anthony valerio and vincent perez hit the neighborhood hard. >> we have a lot of firefighters in our parish, we have graduation's going on, we have happiness and devastation going on. >> he said that he spoke with the families earlier this week. >> in each of them came in devastated the you could see that they were proud of their brother, or sun. >> you can see the flag in front of fire station 26 remains at half staff. in san for cisco, charles clifford with kron4 news. >> many of the people went to cannot make it to the actual service at st. mary's cathedral, they wanted to share this moment with others in san cisco a lot of
them wound up watching this on television around the city. stanley roberts visited one of those spots. >> we're sending them to the firehouse in the sky. >> this firefighter was sent from san francisco-- from boston to san francisco to attend a funeral. since many could not get in, some according to tom is joint to watch the services and talk. --some poured into tommy's a joint to watch the--some p oured into tommy's joint to watch and talk. it >> it was not just firefighters, some people had to be turned away because of the amount of people here. >> i have not seen this before, not only the country but literally all around the

past and the a mother and father are forced to say their final goodbyes to their baby. isaac garcia was shot dead last sunday in east palo alto well in his parents' car. today, family members and friends to join for the baby's funeral. >> police escorts led the procession into st. anthony's church friday for the final mass in funeral service for baby isaac minutes a sous garcia. friends and family attended
