this is the bay area's news station, kron 4 news at 11:00 p.m., starts now. >> a meeting had to be shut down tonight after a crowd refused to settle down. tensions are running high after police shot and killed a 23- year-old man marking the 7 7th officer involved shooting this year, including five deaths. kron 4's kate thompson reports, emotions were boiling over. >> reporter: from the start the meeting spiraled out of control. the meeting held by a volunteer group trying to decide if they should have a citizen's review board was used as a verbal
punching bag. >> you be five minutes to quiet down. the board unable to control the board canceled the meeting. the outrage comes from a deadly officer involved shooting sunday. officers fired more than 30 shots into a car. one of the men tried to get out of the car and reach for a gun. a gun that turned out to be a pellet gun. >> i will repeat it for the record, my son never left his car alive. >> just heart breaking that what they did. i feel like they just shot that -- just -- just -- they didn't have to shot that car 31 times. the crowd vows to be back
on tuesday when there is a city counsel meeting. kate thompson, kron 4 news. a neighborhood organization is encouraging residents of san francisco to stand by suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi and demand that he get his job back. ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty after bruising his wife's arm. kron 4's reggie kumar tells us ross mirkarimi talked about the public scrutiny they have endured. >> reporter: after 9 months of fighting for his job and marriage suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi has to clear one last hurdle before finding out if he will get his job back. that decision mill be made by -- will be made by the board of supervisors. but during the community meeting on monday at the library ross mirkarimi asked they make their decision after the election.
>> the proper process is that they should delay till after the election. they are in a difficult position. one they shouldn't be put in in the first place. the way this has been pushed by mayor ed lee speaks of how political the process has become. >> reporter: ross mirkarimi's wife and their son were also in attendance. they are both living with ross mirkarimi again after a order was lifted. she believes the supervisors will make the right decision and side with her husband. >> this is what i want. we are so happy to be together. it is a great relief and why we have the strength to fight this political witch hunt, this is what this is. this is political. not about domestic violence. we need brave and honest supervisors and i am sure they

afternoon. we have more changes coming later in the week. details coming up. nadia lockyer appeared in court today. former alameda county supervisor nadia lockyer is facing charges of drug possession and child abuse. the wife of california treasurer bill lockyer was granted supervised visitation with their son. she was arrested last month after police found methamphetamine at the home where she was staying in orange county. >> i am happy to be receiving the help that i need and focusing on getting healthy and i hope to inspire many, many, many others to do the same. >> nadia lockyer pleaded not guilty to the charges. she faces 5 years in prison if convicted. new tonight at 11:00 p.m., gilroy's fire chief resigned
after being caught selling alcohol to a officer who was posing as an under age youth. they were conducting a sting operation when he agreed to by alcohol for a decoy. new tonight, tomorrow marks the 11th year since the september 11th attacks in new york and now first responders at the world trade center will be able to get treatment for 50 types of conser. officials announced -- cancer. officials announced today it will be covered under the new act. volunteers and survivors who meet qualifies will be eligible for coverage. at first cancer wasn't covered by the health fund but now there are 58 types of cancer added to the list. coming up tonight, more on the driver of this red truck

we are always tracking neighborhood crime. crime tarqer. oakland police -- crime tracker. oakland police are tracking a crime. north of the lake a suspect got way more than he bargained for. a off duty police officer shot a 17-year-old boy after the boy tried to rob the deputy and his girlfriend. the suspect is recovering tonight. he had a fake gun. there have been six attempted robberies within a couple blocks within the last six days. on september 5, one on 10th
street. next day first avenue. two more on september 8. one at grand and harrison street and one south of the lake on second avenue. grant lodes, kron 4 news. a memorial service for a man who was found dead. brett olson was reported missing at september 2. he was at the sacramento river. after a week of searching for the missing man his body was discovered long the sacramento river. tuesday's vigil is at 7:00 p.m. a twist for a father expected of kidnapping his children. they were rescued friday fright. the father christopher maffei took the children and then tried to flee with them on a
stolen sale boat. a authorities later found him. the suspect was in court today. as kron 4's terisa estacio reports, he had an outburst. >> reporter: christopher maffei looked out into the courtroom several times searching to see who was in the courtroom. no cameras were allowed. this waw a short hear -- this was a short hearing. christopher maffei started talking loudly. this is what he said. christopher maffei standing behind a glass call and wearing a jail orange uniform said with all due respect my children have been put back into had place where they were being abused. he attempted to continue but the judge interrupted him. she told christopher maffei to only talk to his attorney or what he said would be used
against him. christopher maffei is facing five felony counts. kidnapping, violation of a custody decree, burglary, cruelty to a child and buying or stealing a stolen vehicle. the children's mother had this to say, i am very upset over his outburst in court today. there is no truth in any of his abuse allegations towards the children. it is in my profession to help children, not hurt them. bail is half a billion dollars. christopher maffei will be in court september 17 for his case that was continued. terisa estacio, kron 4 news. new tonight at 11:00 p.m., police announced today they are increasing patrols on paths to and from city schools after a man attempted to kidnap a local
teenager last week. a 15-year-old girl was walking her dog when a man approached her. he told her to get in and he grabbed her. she fought him off and got away. the suspect is still at large. temperatures are going to be moving up and down into tomorrow. the winds are expected to pick up. that means more fog and cooler temperatures near the coast line. bay shores is where we will see the cooling. thursday and wednesday fog along the coast line. and that will mean warmer conditions for the bay shores and our inland valleys. look at temperatures tomorrow morning, 50s 50s and 60s. 60s long the coast line and that is where we will stay. no 90s expected tomorrow. in the south bay, temperatures in the 80s tomorrow. 82 sunnyvale, 80 san jose.
