a high speed chase in the east bay this morning. we'll tell you what lead to the chase coming up in a live report. >>james:crews are working to clean up the mess left behind after a gas line was hit in alamo. coming up. >>darya:and dramatic video of a deadly high speed train derailment in spain. we'll have the latest on the investigation in to what caused this massive accident. but first let's get an update on our forecast. it >>erica: right now temperatures are mainly in the '50's and low 60s. expect low temperatures from the '60s coast side to have to mid-90s as we head into your afternoon highs. we will see some subtle variations day today. come i wish to use 7 day around the bay forecast coming up at 715. george.

>>george: pretty clear conditions especially here at the bay bridge. here you are looking at about a 40 minute drive time out of the macarthur maze. k green bay bridge ride. san mateo bridge still looks " good. a 30 minute drive time and the golden gate bridge and time looks good on southbound but it is still quite foggy for much of your trip across the span. >>darya: thanks in georgia. i saw no one at is the time. following developing news out of oakland this morning where two suspects were arrested after a high speed chase from oakland to san leandro. kron four's will tran is live from n leandro with more on the story, will? >>justine: it ended right here right when the fire hydrants used to be. now it's on its side because

they tried to make a hard right turn. could not make it and slammed into the fire hydrant. here is video. is started at about 215 in the morning. the oakland police department tell me that the shots were fired and oakland off pontiac street. they're not sure if these two people were shooting at someone or shot up in the air. but nonetheless, oakland police officers got right behind the suspect. the chase went to san leandro and that's when it slammed the car into the fire hydrant to the point where both suspects had to be taken to the hospital to be checked out. they are in jail this morning and looked at about 5 this morning. we had a chance to talk to people in the neighborhood. here is what they had to say about the high speed pursuit. >>: i think it was a lady.

locate the gas lines. this morning the problem is fixed and danville boulevard is fully reopened. >>darya:new this morning, firefighters in vacaville were called out to a two alarm house fire. it happened around 3-30 this morning. on millbrook court. the fire started outside and spread to a carport area. a family of five was inside the home but a neighbor was able to alert them and everyone got out ok. the fire is now out. oakland police are investigating the shooting death of a 66 year old woman as she drove through her neighborhood. judy salamon crashed her car after being shot yesterday afternoon in the fairfax neighborhood of oakland. so far, no arrests have been made and police don't have a motive. neighbors say she's lived in the area for more than 20 years and that they can't imagine why anyone would shoot her in the middle of the day and

perhaps that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. >>mark:new security camera video captures the moment a spanish train veered off the tracks and crashed into a concrete wall at a high speed. the footage posted on youtube shows the train rounding the bend, making a turn to the left, underneath a road overpass. the video appears to stop at the moment that the engine crashes into it. and here's video of a crane lifting one of the cars off the tracks. at least 78 people are reported dead. rescue workers are searching through the debris so the number could go higher. more than 140 people were injured. we have also just learned that at least 5 americans are among the injured. investigators have ruled out the possibility it was a terrorist attack. the accident happened on the eve of a major religious festival that attracts tens of thousands of christians from around the world every year.

>>george: we continue to attract a good commute around the bay. at the bay bridge toll plaza we don't have much delay or back up at all. this is a very easy ride. there was the possibility that once things cleared on the east shore that this would have been flooded with traffic but that did not occur. looking at the san mateo bridge ride highway 92 this is also a good commute as you had westward over toward foster city or even back toward hayward. looking at the golden gate bridge or we can see a little more of this band. it traffic still moves of very first to the shore freeway, again this has been a hot spot but the drive times and now are in a perfectly normal lead from 21 to 24 minutes. that is an

easy trip. a little slowing 4680 south but not at all. of 580 west to the altamont looks good through livermore, dublin all the way into castro valley. south bay freeways look great and the north bay ride has a little slowing but the drive times are under 32 minutes from about down to the golden gate bridge. >>mark:the u-s senate has approved a bill to lower interest the senate voted 81-to-18 to lower the interest rates for undergraduates taking out government loans to three- a rate of six-point-eight percent interest on those loans kicked in july first when congress didn't act before the deadline. the new rates would also be retroactive and apply to loans taken out after july first, but are also tied to future rates on the financial markets. the house is expected to pass the measure by the end of next week. the white house also

supports the plan. the measure doesn't apply to loans that students get from private lenders. the u-s house defeated a proposal to severely limit the national security agency's phone surveillance program. edward snowden leaked classified details of that program to media outlets last month. some lawmakers called the program too broad and intrusive. but their attempt to limit it was narrowly defeated. 217 to 205. yet a new wall street journal poll out suggests that most people in america would "fire" the current members of congress. it of83 percent of americans disapprove of the job lawmakers are doing. while 57 percent told pollsters they would want to replace every single member of congress. the poll also found the president's approval rating has dropped to 45-percent.

>>darya: a bay area university has topped forbes' annual ranking of top colleges in the west. stanford university came in at number one jumping from third place last year. while pomona college about 30 mi. from los angeles was in second place. princeton university slipped to third place from first last year. any help came in at no. 4.

were fired. not sure if they're firing at somebody or up in the air but nonetheless in oakland police officer was right on the scene. there was a pursuit that went about 3 mi.. they got to san leandro at this intersection and then to people were inside the vehicle. a stolen vehicle. a man and woman. their names have not been released but there were slightly injured and taken to hospital to be checked out. there are in jail this er being booked. even though this happen in the middle of the night, many people were sleeping and it was loud enough for at people like nancy castro. please could you tell us what you heard and saw. about all of a sudden i came down the stairs and i saw the cops and i saw the car. >>: what happened was the man in pursuit was running and they chased him and they

nailed him and they said to him you need to stop. he got out of the car and he ran and the tops surrounded him through the complex that's across the way on orchard ave. he got arrested. >>will: i can tell you that the suspect and the one in what were the only to enter. no one else was injured on this pursuit. >>darya: impactfor the first time, mosquitoes in east san jose have tested positive for the west nile virus. the santa clara county vector control district will spray a foggy mist from trucks on streets in the berryessa area starting tomorrow. previous sprays for the mosquitoes found to carry west nile have been in south san jose and extended west to saratoga and cupertino.

the fog-like spray is not toxic to humans or animals. there have been no reported infections in humans in santa clara county this year. a san francisco socialite has been found dead in an apartment near lake tahoe. amber bentley was found dead in her gardnerville, nevada apartment. police say, it appears she had been dead several weeks, and no one reported her missing. authorities say bently is the former wife of minden businessman christopher bently. the two were active in the san francisco social scene. bentley was a well known jeweler whose work has been featured at several local galleries and spas. her exact cause of death has not yet been determined, but authorities say there's no evidence of foul play. in >>darya: appearwe are now just *ten days away from a possible bart strike. unions and bart are still far apart at the negotiation table. this is video from our helicopter partnership with

abc 7 news. of what the lines looked like during the most recent four day strike eariler this month. contingency plans for commuters have been discussed by the metropolitan transit commission. additional ferry's and buses are likely. again. at most, during the last strike, bart used 79 charter buses a day. they may try and increase that number this time around possibly bringing buses from all across the area. even though, that is a challenge. bart and it's unions have until august 4th to come up with a plan to avoid a strike. at this point. the governor has not become involved. >>darya:the state college board have decided that the results of hundreds of advance placement exams taken at a millbrae high school are invalid. the college board is throwing out the results of more than 600 a-p tests, taken in may by more than 200 mills high school

students on 11 different subjects. an investigation done by the educational testing service, which administers the test. found that some students took the test in groups, while sitting at circular tables. the e-t-s says that is a violation. and, despite the school district saying the students did not cheat, their tests will not count. the scores are invalid. >>: it's just quite disappointing that we are not that i am not able to get the scores that i earned. >>: i will not be able to receive credit for the scores and that will impact the amount of class is that i need to take three and as honestly makes me feel a little angry because we have done anything as students. >>darya:that is the decision by the state college board. regarding the may results of hundreds of advanced

placement exams. taken at mills high school in millbrae. and, the superintendent says, the school district is considering legal action to have that ruling overturned. addressing school and district administrators with questions and complaints. upset over the students being punished for something out of their control. subjects. a violation. at wednesday night's town hall meeting, the school district informed students that has hired two legal firms and is considering legal action against e-t-s to have the test scores re- instated. parents were also encouraged to seek their own legal action.

>>mark: east bay mud crews are still working to cap a gas line that ruptured after construction crews struck the line. kron four's mike pelton is live from alamo with more, mike? mike >>: it could see the crews have passed up the road. the road is fully open. some of the community are still fuming over yesterday's gas leak which prompted the evacuations of those living and working within a thousand feet of this area. one owner of a laundromat says she did not receive an emergency alert unlike a lot of people in the community and she did not have a chance to shut down potentially hazardous items such as driers that could spark. she also met because she lost a full day of work. this morning i asked her where her frustration level is that. >>: it is high because of being a small business it takes everything have to keep my laundromat open and have been at me lose customers is a huge for me.

in the area for more than 20 years and that they can't imagine why anyone would shoot her in the middle of the day and perhaps that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. new this morning, we are learning about a hacker attack at stanford. the university is urging students and faculty to change passwords after some sort of i-t breach yesterday. it is not clear the scope of the intrusion or if personal information like financial or social security numbers were taken, but stanford is working closely with information security consultants and law enforcement to determine its source and impact. stanford is concerned this is similar hacker incidents reported in recent months by a range of companies and large organizations in the

the state college board have decided that the results of hundreds of advance placement exams taken at a millbrae high school are invalid. the college board is throwing out the results of more than 600 a-p tests, taken in may by more than 200 mills high school students on 11 different an investigation done by the educational testing service, which administers the test. found that some students took the test in groups, while sitting at circular tables. the e-t-s says that is a violation. >>: is quite disappointing that i am not able to get the scores that i earned. >>: i will not be able to receive credit for the scores and that will impact the amount of class is that i need to take. designedly makes me feel a little angry because we haven't done anything as students. >>darya:and, despite the school district saying the students did not cheat, their tests will not count. the scores are invalid.

has been found dead in an apartment near lake tahoe. amber bentley was found dead in her gardnerville, nevada apartment. police say, it appears she had been dead several weeks, and no one reported her missing. authorities say bently is the former wife of minden businessman christopher bently. the two were active in the san francisco social scene. bentley was a well known jeweler whose work has been featured at several local galleries and spas. her exact cause of death has not yet been determined, but authorities say there's no >> the state college board have decided that the results of hundreds of advance placement exams taken at a millbrae high school are invalid. the college board is throwing out the results of more than 600 a-p tests, taken in may by more than 200 mills high school students on 11 different subjects. an investigation done by the educational testing service, which administers the test. found that some students took the test in groups, while sitting at circular tables.
