welcome back to the kron4 morning news our developing story is in the traffic department where a fatal accident has occurred just north of daly city on interstate 280 in the southbound direction the resulting from a north out accident. kron4's that piece of soap is live at the scene with details on the accident and an update on

how soon we might expect to see some of the southbound lanes open. >>: we just had a chance to talk to chp. i talk about the accident and how soon we may see the lanes are to reopen and just a second. the accident have been shortly after 530. the s u b on the left-hand side and a second vehicle were involved in the accident. the driver of the st got after the car after the accident and jumped over the center divide. at that point he jumped over the center divide their ran into traffic and the southbound lane. at that point, that person was struck and killed by at least one vehicle. that vehicle is still outstanding. chp says don't know who or what struck the person. the driver of the second vehicle was taken to a local hospital where injuries are unknown at this point. as far as on the land will be

reopened we were told a couple minutes ago that perhaps the fifth lane in the southbound direction may reopen and about five minutes. i can say that the corner just showed up about five minutes ago and that will take it a little bit of time to do that. but once the corner has taken the body away and then his investigation that's what they're going to start opening up. it's expected to be relatively short for the south all lanes. the northbound lanes are still come up. it will still be a little while. if you can avoid i would say avoid at all costs at this point. >>george: thanks jackie. this is the northbound side of the freeway. jackie says the initial accident occurred. and when a switch over to the traffic maps.

it's backed up to ocean and the southbound direction of interstate 280. no. on the back up not too bad. only however because this is a holiday week and we're looking at exceptionally light traffic through the bay area. the cars that are stuck behind accident have been locked in there for about an hour. other traffic was able to exit and san jose avenue southbound using brotherhood to get back on interstate 280. your best bet as jackie says is to avoid the area entirely. >>anny: are other big story. a massive winter storm is slamming the northeast this morning, bringing with it frigid forecasts for gusting and blizzard conditions. the nor'easter comes just as parts of the midwest and east coast restored power to tens of thousands of residents from the last storm. there is new york's mayor and build a blotchy of shoveling snow. --bill deblagio.

welcome back to the kron4 morning news as we continue to track a fatality accident that happened southbound to 80. --280. the initial incident occurring on the northbound side of the fatalities occurring on the southbound side. it looks like they opened up the right hand lane southbound temporarily while the work to clear the traffic that has for one hour been backed up behind this crash. according to the chp wants they cleared the back up from the freeway they're going to close the right to land again with the other traffic been taken off at the next proceeding exit which is san jose. here on the northbound side where we are restricted to the two northbound lanes traffic is

backed up into daly city. south on track it does- traffic backed up to ocean geneva. your best bet is to avoid this area entirely. but it is remarkable that we don't have bigger backups. that is the fact that we are looking at a holiday week conditions. a new problem on the nimitz freeway north out with a stalled there that's backing up traffic. install or an accident actually. even with that it's a lighter back up in what you typically see on a normal weekday. here's part of the reason why.

drive. the homeless camps are being investigated for possibly starting the fire. the fire chief says propane tanks pose a particular danger to the firefighters this morning. >>: we will be out here throughout the day to make sure there are no hot spots. there were no injuries reported as a result of this fire. and >>mark:the f-b-i is now leading the investigation into an arson attack on the chinese consulate in san francisco. wednesday night, someone threw two buckets of gasoline on the front doors of the building on geary and laguna streets. no one was injured, but the flames heavily damaged the outside of the consulate and left smoke damage. i will say at this point in time this appears to be most

likely a criminal matter opposed to a national security matter. if that changes we of course will let you know immediately. federal investigators say they're working with local police and fire departments as well as the state department of diplomatic security. they say the attack appears to be an isolated incident. the chinese consulate has condemned the attack. they've demanded that the people responsible be brought to justice. and that every effort be made to protect the consulate and its diplomats. >>anny:happening now. the trip back to land is on hold again for 52 scientists and tourists rescued from a research ship stuck in the ice in the antarctic. here's video of the rescue. pit the passengers were airlifted from the icebound ship yesterday. but the australian

your private messages to friends on facebook.not so private.at least according to a new lawsuit against the social networking site. and the people behind the suit.want a big payout. lawyers claim facebook intercepted those private messages.and sold it to marketing firms. two facebook users filed the suit in san francisco. and are looking for class- action status. saying as many as 166- million facebook users in the u-s may be able to join the suit. and get this.the suit wants either a hundred dollars a day for each alleged violation. or ten thousand dollars for each user.

facebook reportedly says the accusations.are "without merit".but the company hasn't put out an official statement. >>anny: an update now to the snap chat hack. the act makers plan to put out a more secure version since the bridge this week that allow hackers to collect the user names and phone numbers of some 4.6 million

into the weekend. >>mark: thank-you erica. we are one step closer to having an agreement in the bart labor dispute. after two strikes, contract ratifications, a disputed bart aboard boats and a lawsuit the bart district board of directors has approved a compromise contract. the contract does not include the controversial six weeks of unpaid family medical leave. but bart workers will be getting improvements to a variety of provisions including those dealing with recent family medical leave and training. naso a provision giving employees a one time bonus if bart rider should increases was revised. the new contract does not exceed the 67 million hot dollars that was

in the previous agreement. >>anny: a bay area drivers arrested for hitting and killing a six year-old girl and san francisco on the rear seat has a clean driving record and it fell a license. 57 year-old syed muzzafar of union city was turning right when he had a mother and her two children at polk and ellis streets tuesday night. the family was in the crosswalk. muzzafar is a driver with the ride your company-- rideshare company uber. uber says it performs extensive background checks to make sure drivers have a clean record. the company also says muzzafar was not

on duty at the time of the accident. he's currently free on bond and his account has been deactivated. >>mark: lawyers representing the family of 13 year-old jahi mcmath will be in court today. hoping a judge to order a feeding tube for the brain dead teen so she can be transferred to another facility. mcmath is scheduled to be taken off life-support tuesday. she suffered complications from a tonsillectomy last month. and several doctors have declared the teen brain- dead. the family's attorney says she has not been getting attrition for nearly three weeks. the hospital officials say they won't enter the tube is needed because they have no legal obligation to operate on the body of a damp%.

involved. andy lopez supporters plan to rebuild the site tomorrow. lopez was shot and killed by sonoma county sheriff's deputy erick gelhaus back in october. gelhaus told investigators, he believed the replica b-b gun lopez was carrying was an assault rifle. there's a scam email going around. disguised as a notice from san francisco superior court. it says it's from "elizabeth tailor, clerk to the court," and asks recipients to open an attachment said to be a court notice. but court officals say there are no court workers named elizabeth tailor, and the attachment actually contains a virus. if you get one, the court says you should ignore it and not open the attachment. sofa... desk... you know what?

state supreme court granted a license to sergio garcia yesterday. he challenged a law that would allow undocumented immigrants to our professional licenses from government agencies. garcia arrived in the u.s. illegally 20 years ago to pick on men's. he worked in orchards and fields and at a grocery store while studying to become a lawyer. a judge in sacramento has offered the state to add about 5000 signatures to the list of people who want to overturn california's transgendered students' rights bill. the rule directs the secretary of state except the petitions circulated in mono and tulare counties. those signatures had been disqualified because they were not turned a dam by november 10th deadline. the judge ruled that because november 10th was a sunday and the next day veteran's day the law's opponents actually have until tuesday november 12th to get their paperwork and.

welcome back to the kron4 morning news. the updating our hot spot on interstate 280. northbound lanes have been open and we understand. it was the two left tam lanes that were blocked by a series of accidents that resulted in a southbound fatality when a party in one of the vehicles down across the freeway and was struck by a southbound vehicle and killed. the corner on the scene may have just left. but they have decided not the southbound lanes of the freeway will remain shut down until a 11 this morning. that's over three hours from now. do not expect to be able to get through on interstate 280 anytime soon. perhaps your smartest that it would be to use 101 mission boulevard

a bay area driver arrested for hitting and killing a six year old girl in san francisco on new year's eve. has a clean driving record and a valid license. 57-year-old syed muzzafar of union city was turning right when he hit a mother and her two children at polk and ellis streets tuesday night. the family was in the crosswalk. muzzafar is a driver with the rideshare company uber. uber says it performs extensive background checks to make sure drivers have a clean record. the company also says muzzafar was not on duty at the time of the accident. he's currently free on bond and his uber account has been deactivated. a three acre grass fire in

started around 530 this morning one of multiple car accident occurred and the northbound direction of 280. at that 0.1 of the pocket pants with a male driver of an s u b back out of the cars jumped over the center into the southbound lanes of 280. that person is just a modified has notified a person in their early 50s struck and killed. we have just been told that one person has come forward and there will be no charges pressed against the driver of that vehicle of but since then the freeway has been a mess out there. occupancy this is traffic being diverted down to one lane. right pass and jose. is

welcome back to the kron4 morning news. we are tracking a hot spot that we've been watching for nearly four hours now on interstate 280 in the northbound and southbound direction. we have three lanes as a freeway shutdown and the southbound direction after a person was struck and killed here and the southbound lanes. that person that was involved in an accident and the northbound direction and then fleeing the scene. he got clear of his vehicle because it's on know why that person. the person was

reported around 1045 last night at a homeless encampment just east of the village shopping on their 101 and mall near 101 nand tamalpais drive. the homeless camps are being investigated for possibly starting the fire. the fire chief says propane tanks pose a particular danger to the firefighters this morning. there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire. the fbi is now leading the investigation into an arson attack on the chinese consulate in san francisco. wednesday night, someone threw two buckets of gasoline on the front doors of the building on geary and laguna streets. no one was injured but the flames heavily damaged the outside of the consulate and left smoke damage. federal
