>> this is the bay area's news station. kron 4 news at 11:00 starts now. >> a father mourns his 25-year- old son killed in a head on collision in the early hours on christmas day along highway 1 in pacifica. two people died in the fiery collision between an uber car and a second vehicle driving in the wrong direction. good evening. thanks for joining us, i'm grant lodes. we begin with that crash and an interview with the father. it is something you will only see on kron 4. kate has the story. >> reporter: there are many questions about this crash that happened just before 3:00 in the morning. tonight, we do know that christmas day for two families will never be the same.

>> he loved everybody. >> reporter: before jason gillbride went out with his friends, he went to see his parents. he gave his dad a hug and a tye dye shirt. it turned out to be the last give he ever game him. >> i'm a deadhead fan. tye dye is great. i thanked him. i told him to be safe. and ... he's not coming home. >> reporter: jason was in an uber headed home on highway 1 when his car was hit by a toyota corolla going the wrong way. in the aftermath of the crash, the cars are barely recognizable. the corolla burst into flames. the driver died. jason died. the driver of the uber will survive. now the coroner is investigating if the driver going the wrong way was impaired. jason's dad wants to know the answer, especially since his

son knew better than to drink and get behind the wheel. >> he always wanted to do the right thing. >> reporter: we received a statement tonight from uber calling this a terrible tragedy. their thoughts and prayers are with the families of those killed and with the injured driver who is still recovering tonight. reporting in pacifica, i'm kate cagle, kron 4 news. two people are dead following a crash in brentwood near the lone tree way off ramp. a gray suv overturned. the driver is 37-year-old derek joseph. the cause of the accident still under investigation. also topping our news tonight, a gruesome turn of events in the shooting of a bart policeman in hayward. the shooting suspect is connected to another death. >> you just be quiet.

>> reporter: smartphone video shows the tense moments following a shooting of a bart police officer. >> the wound was right here in his arm. the officer said stay down. stay down. at the time, he was really trying to get up. but they were holding him dawn. >> reporter: mauricio palmer shot this video while he and his father helped the wounded officer. >> we were taking off his jacket. took off his shirt. where the bullet landed. >> reporter: the shooting happening just after 11:00 outside the hayward bart parking garage. jeffrey jennings, the suspect identified as 27-year-old charles gedding was acting strange prompting two bart police officer to approach them. when they did, he ran, and police say he turned around and shot, hitting and wounded one of the officers. the other officer fired back,

hitting him multiple times. witnesses say they heard it at least six gunshots after investigating the scene for hours. the deputy chief says police found a dead man in the back of a u-haul that he was walking away from. police say that they have connected that u-haul with him. investigators say he had a semiautomatic handgun on him and he was also on probation. >> my officers contacted him. i'm very pleased with how they conducted themselves. more than two feet of snow in part of the sierra. this is from north star, they are predicting scattered snow showers throughout the rest of the night. skiers and borders are beyond stoked. for us in the bay area, a freeze warning in certain locations. meteorologist brian van aken here now with a quick look at what we can expect. >> cold night.

the next couple of nights. all the way through the weekend. we will see temperatures away from the bay below freezing. it is everywhere. the exception. solano county. but it is cold there too. just no freeze warning there. not for san francisco and the coast either. we are going to see not only the cold temperatures tonight, but tomorrow night, a freeze watch in effect also for tomorrow morning and it is pretty cold right now. fairfield, solano county. 40 degrees. pleasanton already in the mid 30s . novato, santa rosa. as we get into tomorrow morning around sunrise, about 7:30, that is when the coolest temperatures occur, a lot of temperatures below freezing. north bay and the east bay. 30s right up to the bay. we have some wet weather this weekend. all the details on that coming up. >> for up to the minute weather alerts and forecasts in your neighborhood, you can download the kron 4 mobile app. the raider is really good

glen happy faces at the happiest place on earth. that is because disneyland had to stop admitting guests for about 90 minutes. they were so over capacity, they couldn't let anyone else in. disney's california adventure park remained open throughout. guests who had already been in disneyland and left for whatever reason were readmitted. last year on christmas, disneyland also stopped

>> here in hey ward, it was a very scary christmas morning for the people here in grand street. an officer, a bart police officer was wounded, shot in the arm by a suspect. that suspect was also shot by another officer who he was with. the bart officer fired several timesful both the suspect who has been identified as charles gedding, a 27-year-old. and the police officer were taken to eden medical center. the officer has been released and sent back home and the suspect remains in the hospital in stable condition. reporting in hayward, scott

reyes, kron 4 news. it is the 30th annual christmas for everyone charitable event. >> our guests are having a great time today. they all get presents. they all get food. clothing, haircuts. used housewares. transportation if they need it. and they have a whole team out there delivering home bound meals to the meals on wheels clients. >> merry christmas! >> reporter: in concord, haaziq madyun, kron 4 news. 3800 meals were prepared at the salvation army in san francisco today. the food was then deliver today people who were just unable to leave their homes this christmas. hundreds of volunteers came out to help today. some showing up as early as 4:30 in the morning. a salvation army representative said preparations for today began three months ago. in a tradition that has brought joy to many children, tons and tons of toys collected at the toy drive in san francisco were

delivered today. last night, organizers met their goal of getting more than 15,000 toys in just one day. and now, they are giving them to children in need in the city's western addition neighborhood. san francisco firefighters and police officers helping santa deliver those toys. happening tonight, hundreds of families celebrating this holiday at the 30th annual christmas in the park event in san jose. the celebration taking place at the plaza de caesar chavez. more than 60 musical events. it is free to the public open 9:00 to midnight everyday through january 3. well, the park is a little chilly tonight as we have temperatures dropping into the 30s for san jose. very close to freezing in downtown san jose. overnight tonight, right around sunrise. and, we are going to have clear skies all the way through. bright moonlight tonight. and bright sunshine for tomorrow. a lot of blue skies for our

saturday. but, despite all of the work, the sunshine is doing, temperatures will just get up into the low to mid 50s . that is all. now of course, sunday, we will have sun in the morning. another cold start. but the clouds will be increasing through the day. as the next weather system gets closer. here is futurecast going forward to sunday. 6:00 a.m. so, at sunrise, which is just after 7:00, i think we will have plenty of sunshine. but the high thin clouds come in where the sun manages to get through. but by the mid to late afternoon hours, daylight between 3:00 and 5:00, it becomes mostly cloudy. there tees rain from the weak system. just the tail end. look at how much trouble it has holding together and getting in here by 9:00 p.m. still offshore. maybe clipping san francisco. and we have just the body bands of light for sunday night and into early monday before sunrise. again tomorrow, sunshine, a cool day. clouds sunday. light spotty rain sunday night.

sunny, breezy day. temperatures still kind of cool. the storm track is north of us all of this coming week and the rest of 2015. so this next storm coming on wednesday will bring us some clouds. but all the rain way up north around eureka and points in oregon, we get a little warmer thursday and friday with temperatures possibly into the 60s . reports tonight of a powerful earthquake rattling a large swath of pakistan. the day after christmas. emergency officials say dozens of people have been injured. mostly from collapsing homes and crumbling walls. the quake measuring 6.2 magnitude. it was centered in the hindu kush region of pakistan. people took to twitter complaining about late deliveries. fedex stores opened up in late

capacity. delivering packages that were supposed to arrive before christmas. fedex says the delays were due to heavier than planned last minute shipment volumes and severe weather and tornadoes that broke out in parts of the u.s. fedex had forecasted making more than 317 million deliveries. that's an increase of 12% from last year. the holiday programming note. you can catch the annual tournament of roses parade right here on kron 4. a week from today. pasadena tradition of marching bands, floats, flowers, proceed this year's rose bowl football game between stanford and iowa. our rose bowl coverage. the parade begins new year's day 10:00 a.m. featuring the saratoga high marching band. local south bay flavor. again, that is next friday. a week from today at 10:00 in the morning only on kron 4. and coming up, steph curry scared a lot of dub nation as he headed to the locker room with an injury. but he came back and played

he is not going to give it his all. fair enough. so the warriors do it once again in their finals rematch. let's head to oracle. steph curry and the champs undefeated at home. cavaliers riding a 50 game winning streak early only. dubs getting their pounds from the man they call money. draymond green nearly had a double double in the first half. scary moments for warriors fans. curry taken back to the locker room because of a calf injury. everyone is on pins and needles but he is okay. the the triumphant return and he is cooking. check out this drive. the mvp taking it to the rack. and the foul. warriors led by ten at one point. but the cavaliers wouldn't go away. in this fourth quarter, lebron doing lebron type things. swats out a klay thompson

champs back in action monday against the kings. well, that wasn't the only game of the day. the association with a full serving of holiday hoops. here's some highlight is. san antonio considered the warrior's biggest threat. but tonight, belonged to james harden. the beer, back to back. ice cold from downtown. he finished with 20 points. spurs tried to force a foul on a three-point attempt in the closing seconds. not going to work. houston ends their seven game winning streak. and now, to thunder where jimmy butler did this. drains one. an o omen of things to come. chicago wins by nine. finally, the raiders are done with games at the coliseum this season. and who knows if we may have seen the last of them entirely. if that's the case t team put together a grand sendoff led by a future hall of famer. >> hey! just one time i need it!
