this is the bay area's news station, kron 4 news at 10:00 p.m. starts now. >> another shooting on an east bay freeway. thank you for joining us. /n happened on i-880 in oakland. and it all started with a car crash. chp officers had to close two lanes on north bound 880 for two hours while they investigated. you are looking at the back up. lanes opened at 7:30 p.m. this evening. live in oakland today with what happened. >> reporter: this is one more shooting added to the 36
reported on the east bay highway since november of last year and the strange part of this incident is that it happened just after a tahoe car pile -- three car pile up. >> there was a shooting involved here. no one was hit. >> the search is fron those responsible for a -- on for those responsible. california highway patrol reports there was a hit and run involving three cars. and then after a shooting between people in two cars. the suspect then fled the scene. it is unclear whether the crash and shooting were related. police are consideration the possibility as they happened back to back. >> we are keeping that option open. it could be possible. >> reporter: chp reports this
car was speeding while merging when the driver hit the two. once again it is unclear whether that was related to the shooting. calls came in from witnesses who reported a person that jumped out of a car and left in another. chp and opd are working on the crash and shooting. >> whatever information they have they will provide to us and whatever information we get we will provide to them. we will see about linking the cases together. >> reporter: it is also up to witnesses who saw or heard anything to come forward and contact oakland police who are leading the investigation to help catch the people involved. for now, kron 4 news. san jose police have $100,000 warrant out for a sex offender accused of trying to kidnap two girls within the last week. he is considered extremely
dangerous. you see him here. on monday he assaulted and tried to kidnap a girl in the willow glen neighborhood. three days later police accused him of doing the same thing to another girl in south san jose. both are about a 10 minute drive apart. police say he has history of abusing women. he is a white man weighing 200 pounds. he is 5'10" with salt and pepper hair and a goatee. a community is remembering this young man who died in a car accident. the 17-year-old was a promising -- had a promising future, he was killed in a car crash near the "a" street exit in hayward this morning. in his home town today where loved ones held a vigil for the teen. >> there are hundreds of people out here. the community is coming together in a big way.
i spent time with his friends and family and this is a guy that was loved by so many people and a leader. >> reporter: tonight a union city community is coming together to mourn the loss of a beloved guy. he had just begun his senior year in high school and he was on his school's football team. >> he played his heart out no matter what. >> he just got us together and made osteam. trying to make us a team -- made us a team. trying to make us a team. >> reporter: 1:30 a.m. sunday morning his car crashed on i-880. the two minors in the car are being treated for injuries. two adults and three-year-old were in the second car, they l three suffered minor injuries. he died on the scene. >> he brings us together. happy kid.

were rescued from the waters of the san francisco bay another person almost drown in the same place. >> police say a 40-year-old man who is in critical condition was rescued by two tourists visiting the bay area from the u.k. around noon near fisherman's warfare. they found the man face down in the water. he was wearing a life jacket and crews applied cpr immediately. it is unclear where the man entered the water or if drugs and alcohol played a role. yesterday 15 scouts and a chaperon had to be rescued after their catamaran capsized. strong winds could have contributed to the capsize. everyone on board was wearing a life jacket which is why no one was hurt. and on thursday you remember
rescue crews saved 15 people and a dog from a damaged fishing boat by the golden gate bridge. the fishing boat struck rocks while near the shoreline and this is video from our helicopter, shows the rescue. everyone was safe following the incident including the dog there helped off of the boat who was also very, very happy to be back on dry land. >> get away from the water. san francisco firefighters trained this morning at ocean beach to rescue those who are drowning. beaches pose many hazards. they warn the public to stay back from the water and never turn your backs on the ocean. they say never swim alone and know how to swim. we have more on rescues and advice on how to stay safe on our website www.kron.com and on
