(justine) and i am justine waldman. here locally, one of the largest demonstrations against sharia law..was in the south bay... that's where kron four's philippe djegal reports... those protesting were peacefully confronted by the opposition. (philippe)alice hoagland/nats- "no sharia in the usa." on the santa clara side of the intersection near santana row... dozens of protestors standing against sharia -- or, islamic law. nats- "show me what hypocracy looks like. that is what hypocracy looks like." on the san jose side of the intersection... demonstrators, by the hundreds, shout in opposition...nats- "they are few -- we are many." alice hoagland's son mark bingham died on united airlines flight 93 on september 11th 2001. alice hoagland/anti-sharia law- "i am fully in favor of muslim-americans. i am very grateful for muslims to come to the united states and adopt american values, but to the extent that they are trying to, trying to infuse america with the, with the teachings of islam to that extent do i

"sabina wildman/muslim student- "just like calling it, you know, the travel ban, it was a muslim ban. just like calling it anti-sharia protest, it's an anti-muslim protest."police/protesto r/nats- "you're detaining me? i'm detaining you, yes." this man was briefly detained by san jose police for an alleged assault. but was later released. several grassroots organizations were represented on both sides of demonstrations... which for the most part remained peaceful. this protestor showed up, inspired by the recent terrorist attack on london bridge.no name/anti- sharia law- "we're not racist. i'm here only for one reason. to make sure sharia law does not catch a foothold in the us." a proud muslim- american, bibi isn't buying it.

(justine) these demonstrators... have taken to the streets in more than 20 cities across the country.... nats-protestsfrom new york city to seattle... there were anti-sharia law demonstrations and pro-muslim counter protests.nats - protests saturday.. hundreds of protesters marched against sharia law - a group of principles that govern the moral and religious lives of muslims.chanting: sharia law is against our freedom. it's against human rights the protest put on by "act for america", an organization some view as the largest anti-muslim hate group. but organizers say the march against sharia law is about fighting for human rights.. mos: reporter: is act anti-muslim? no act is against
sharia law... degrading to woman."and not far from where many of the anti-sharia protesters were holding up signs and banners ... pro- muslim demonstrators were also taking a stand. mos: i want to stop the attack on arabs on muslims. butt sot 12:40:50 we cannot allow any group to be scapegoat. mos: i don't think muslims are here to impose sharia law on anybody. i think they're here in america because they value american values."tensions are high after similar protests in portland turned violent.but organizers aimed to keep things peaceful. anthony parish/march against sharia organizer"some of the people that are protesting us are just going to try to shout us down and they're not willing to listen. but this is america and everyone's welcome." (justine) in st. paul, minnesota, state troopers arrested about a half-dozen people. and in seattle police used tear gas to disperse rowdy demonstrators and made several arrests. (jrstone) in the east bay... an officer involved shooting resulted in a car
crashing into a brentwood home. kron4's jeff pierce spoke to the homeowner and neighnors who saw the whole thing go down. this is birchwood road a quiet, leafy street in brentwood. it is the kind of neighborhood where residents put out flags to welcome their friends. but this home owner, who declined to give his last name, had unwelcome guests visit him just before ten o'clock friday night. i'm watching tv and i hear some, well in the back of my mind i knew it was gunshots but i was hoping it was fireworks. those gunshots echoed through street and were heard by frightened residents. i heard two different types of guns. and then we heard more gunshots there were about six in a row. bap bap bap bap bap. as i got to the front door i realized it was gunshots and i didn't get to the front door before i saw the car fly into the front yard here. that car was the subject of a pursuit by brentwood police where shots were exchanged before crashing into ross's home. two suspects
were injured in the ensuing police activity. one person was shot by the officer, his condition i can't release right now. within minutes the quiet nihborod was overwhelmewith law enforcement officers. it was a huge scene there were twenty or thirty people out here at one point. when we came outside there was a guy that said he got shot in the head he was screaming and screaming it was the most intensive thing i ever saw in my life. a second subject was injured in the incident. one suspect had to be airlifted from the scene. there was a helicopter at the very very end they had taken the first guy who was screaming out, they took him in an ambulance and they airlifted the guy who apparently got shot in the hip. brentwood police are releasing few details about the incident. so it's the brentwood police and the district attorney's office investigating the case. on saturday morning residents are hoping birchwood road is returning to the quiet street they had just days ago. just hoping it was a random thing. we don't get this kind of thing in brentwood. you just never know. never know. in
brentwood jeff pierce kron four news. (justine)in the south bay police are looking for a man suspected of trying to rape a convenience store employee. (j.r.)and officers say it happened while that employee was working this morning.kron four's spencer blake has details from morgan hill. the victim in this case had just started her shift at this shell gas station and convenience store at six o'clock saturday morning.she was working alone, behind the counter, and noticed a man who was hanging around the store for a while.(vo)she felt so uncomfortable she asked him to leave, which he didbut he came back a little while later. the victims says the man was asking for free cigarettes, and then he went around the counter and grabbed the worker by her arms.he forced her into a back storage room, where he tried to sexually assault her. police say the victim did a fantastic job defending herself.she fought back until he eventually ran off.the employee that filled in for the woman saturday was
surprised to hear what happened from reporters.(sot) "it's another crime that happens like every day, ya know? it's justwe live in a fallen world."(vo)police released this surveillance image, hoping people can help track down the suspect.the victim says the hispanic man has a tattoo that may be of a teardrop under his left eye, and a lettered tattoo on his neck.he also might have an injury to one of his eyes where the victim hit him in the face.(looklive)this is in the shopping center with safeway and home depot - it's definitely not a place that police consider dangerous.in morgan hill, spencer blake, kron four news. (jr stone) in hayward. firefighters say seven people are without a home tonight. after a fire scorched an independent living facility. it happened a few hours ago on sunset blvd. firefighters say they could see heavy smoke from a mile away. luckily
crews were able to extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. there were no injuries but seven adult men are displaced tonight...and are being assisted by the red cross. the cause of the fire...is under investigation. fake explosive belts worn the london bridge attackers. these are images of the mock explosive belts worn by the three terrorist. each leather belt had three fake explosives attached. those explosives turned out to be disposable water bottles covered with duct tape. the belts were still attached to the suspects when they were shot dead. (jr stone) in national news. police have released video of a kidnapped woman who was rescued from inside a storage container in south carolina. and take a look... you can see a pad locked chain around her neck. kala brown went missing on august 31st. she was found more than two months later on the property of todd kohlhepp. police say she was kidnapped after she and her boyfriend spoke with kohlhepp about hiring them to clean up his property. kohlhepp shot brown's boyfriend that same day and then locked her in the container where deputies eventually found her. kohlhepp is charged with
killing seven people in total. (jr stone) and in san diego a mentally ill man-- who murdered his parents-- was sentenced to spend 100-years to life in prison. peter haynes was sentenced yesterday... after pleading guilty in march to first-degree murder charges along with other charges. prosecutors say haynes shot his mother inside their home... then attacked his father. the murders happened the day after thanksgiving back in 2014. doctors have diagnosed haynes with schizophrenia. his uncle told the judge despite haynes' struggles ... the family wants the maximum punishment because they wouldn't feel safe if he were to be paroled. (justine) if you are headed to tahoe... prepare for a backup on highway 50 through el dorado county a mudslide thursday night burried a large section of the highway. caltrans says 50 tons of debris from the hillside slid down onto the road. it started in the west bound lane before
creeping into eastbound traffic. crews are cleaning boulrs and mud. jarrett woodruff with caltrans says it was water from storms this winter that got in between boulders, causing the mudslide. (jarrett woodruff/ engineer): "we were more proactive yesterday to try and alleviate the impacts that would occur this weekend."(justine) caltrans is hoping to have everything cleaned up and both lanes back open by tomorrow afternoon. highs again will be well below normal and in the 60s to low 70s. we can expect a big change in the weather pattern over the next 7 days. temperatures will begin to warm on monday and by next thursday we could feel some summer-like heat with highs soaring well into the 90s. (j.r.) we are now less than 48 hours away from game 5 of the nba finals. warriors are up three to one and will try to win it all at home. the warriors released additional tickets that went on sale at 5 this afternoon. we attempted to see how much those tickets were going for but were unable to do so. you can see this "no tickets but keep trying" logo that kept popping up. resale tickets on ticketmaster are going for more than 700 dollars a ticket for the worst seat in the house. add to that a service charge that's more than a hundred bucks and you have yourself some pricey tickets. ticketmaster is actually the only site that guarantees you tickets. stubhub and others
guarantee your money back if they are fake but don't guarantee your tickets for nba basketball. stubhub and seatgeek prices are actually cheaper than the ticketmaster site right now. tickets for game 5 on stubhub were 664 dollars at last check. going into this series prices were down from where they were in both 2015 and 2016. as we go farther into the series...prices appear to be rising as well. now and then we run across someone that actually gets it right. over the years i have been conducting safety teson transit buses to see if drivers are following state law as it relates to stopping at rail crossing i tested ac transit buses in richmond at the cutting blvd crossing, where they failed horribly im sorry is horribily too strong of a word?nats: ambiance the very same crossing where this big rig was recenty split in half after being hit by amtrack nats: ambiance i tested ac transit in hayward and was hard pressed to find even one driver coming to a complete stop many drivers simply did california stops . althought some people call them california rolls. but to me that's a dish served in sushi restaurants nats: ambiance i tested union city transit. they also failed . infact the transit district reached out to kron 4 and said they will fix the problem but my
second check netted the same results nats: ambiance i even check on u.c. s.f. shuttle buses they even had this bus stops at all railroad crossings yey they failed to stop but get this some argued the crossing was a controlled crossing so they were not requried to stop apparently, i was right and the naysayers were wrongso now the shuttles are stopping and some say they're even opening their doors to look and listen nats: ambiance so now i turned my attention to tri delta transit and i' m in the city of antioch and i waited for the onlaught of drivers ignoring state law and not stopping at rail crossing ..there was this one which did the california roll .. so i was like here we go again then something happened . almost every single tri delta transit bus driver followed state law and stopped at the crossing not only did they stop many of them waited nats: ambiance i was pleasently schocked that 99% of all the buses i watched stopped at waited .. now it could be because they thought my car was a supervisor's car and got spooked or maybe they know the

a 13-year old boy is recovering in the hospital tonight after being stabbed outside of a library in millbrae. (ááá oncam áááthe suspect accused of randomly stabbing the boy is said to be a
44-year-old man from south san francisco. he was found immediately after but today was finally arrested and faces police say around 2-30 yesterday afternn the man randomly approach the en in the middle of the library's plaza... last night it was unknown whether a weapon was recovered but now take a look we have a picture.a 4 inch folding knife.sheriff's investigators believe it was used to stab the boy across both his arms several times. but is expected to be okay. luckily sherrif's deptuies responded within 20 seconds. and the suspect was still at the scene.(sot)
missing this evening. 22-year-old richard moss was last seen leaving his home in montara may 25th ...in a blue 2001 hyundai tiburon police say he then made a trip to work...stopping at mcdonalds in pacifica around seven a.m. for breakfast. he was less than three miles from his job on moss beach...but never made it. there has been no activity on richard's a-t-m card since he went missing. authorities have now hired a private investigator...to help with the search. in the east bay.. a student says he was denied the chance to walk at graduation because he wanted twear his military uniform.kron 4's hermela aregawi spoke to the family in brentwood this afternoon and picks up the story. (anchor)(hermela aregawi)this isn't your average 18 year old. he started training for the military when he
became of age at 17.and overcame a lot of obstacles this year to graduate..so the family says it was disappointing heartbreaking when last minute he was denied that moment.harley fletcher comes from a family of servicemen and women.and always knew he wanted to follow suit.the 18 year old was excited about wearing his military uniform at his graduation from liberty high. something he says he'd discussed with several staffmembers at school.but when he showed up in uniform, he knew something was wrong. harley fletcher/graduate: it was almost like a stunned like, why are you here like that, why do you, why are you dressed like that.the answer was no.bill fletcher/father:i spoke with one of the vice principals, and she indicated that he would have to wear cap and gown, that it is a legacy school its the oldest school in brentwood. it has to be cap and gown or they don't walk. state law says he can wear his uniform to graduation.and fletcher didn't want to go against military uniform code by covering it with a gown.so the family went home disappointed.harley fletcher/graduatecrawled through 200 years of sand and dirt, bloody elbows, you know, getting covered in my own blood and other people's blood. getting shot at at by really big machine guns....i'm proud to be wearing that uniform. proud to be graduating going against odds of being a young father, getting married young, working all day, all night, sometimes at work, but still graduating still being able to pass all your classes with a's and b's
so now fletcher will pick up his diploma monday.bill fletcherwe were hoping to get a picture of him coming off the stage, in his uniform with his diploma and we didn't get that, we'll never get that. (hermela aregawi)we reached out the district superintendent .to the family.and says under fletcher been able to uniform reporting in brentwood, hermela aregawi, kron (justine) the lake merritt bart station will be closed again tomorrow for maintenance... bart says the closure will cause a 20 to 40 minute delay in the area.... especially when traveling to oakland international airport. there will be no service between the lake merritt and fruitvale stations. a free shuttle bus will be provided for riders between the 19th street and fruitvale stations. the momma bear quickly chases the skinny coyote away and continues on her search for food. but the brazen coyote comes back again and again. (justine) (chris mcdonald/homeowner): "i'm very concerned about the cub, itself, of the bear being injured by the coyote or other animals in the area. the mother kept the cub very close so it seemed well protected despite the efforts of the coyote."(justine) the homeowner hopes the department of fish and wildlife will capture the bears and relocate them to a safer area. remembering adam west. how the entertainment industry is remembering the original batman. plus the apology tv-host bill maher gave after using a racial slur on his hbo show.
(justine) bill maher apologized for using a racial slur on his h-b-o show last week. during his show last night, maher said, "that word, i don't care who you are, has caused pain. i'm not here to do that." rapper and actor ice cube, along with activist symone sanders, appeared as guests on the show. both called the incident was a "teachable moment." h-b-o has called maher's comment "completely inexcusable and tasteless." (justine) fans are mourning the death of television's original batman, adam west.
