warmer temperatures are expected for the weekend into next week as an upper level ridge strengthens over the southwest. a heat advisory is in effect for most inland locations for this weekend into early next week as temperatures warm to as much as 20 degrees above seasonal averages and begin to pose potential heat related illnesses. dry weather conditions and mostly clear skies will also prevail through the forecast period.

(steve) happening now fire crews are trying to figure out what caused a warehouse to go up in flames.... you're looking at video from the san francisco fire department as they were working to put out the flames....(steve) all this happening in the city's bay view district....(pam) kron 4's hermela aregawi... has details on what happened.... the fire started around 12:30 this afternoon.fire officials say it burned through practically every part of this 5000 square foot ware house, a facility that manufactures metal.those who work nearby describe the initial moments. coral romero/witness: i heard a muffled explosion. that's a muffled boom like one of the kids up on the hill were throwing fireworks. my partner thought it was one of the metal guys dropped a peace of metal on the concrete so i didn't jump up or anything because we're used to hearing that noise all the time. and then the cabinet guys across the street said fire get out now.fortunately no one was in

the warehouse when the fire started.and fire officials say they were successful in keeping it from spreading to businesses next door and residences nearby.but they say it wasn't easy.leut. jonathan baxter/spokesman, sffd: we were very fortunate that we were able to keep this 5000 square foot fully involved warehouse fire to just that warehouse. we have no exposures to any of our surrounding businesses or to our residential areas. we did put an initial shelter in place in effect which is still in place, precautionary, due to the fact that we had a good strong wind going east and we wanted to make sure the residential areas were pretoectedthe san francisco fire department had all hands on deck and even had to call their reserves.officials say about 122 firefighters were on the scene.and many are expected to work into tomorrow afternoon to finish the jobno injuries to report.and no one was displaced.(hermela aregawi) the source and cause of the fire is still under investigation.reporting in san franisco, hermela aregawi, kron 4 news.

(steve) the two men charged with killing 36 people in the deadly ghost ship warehouse fire were in court today... but they did not enter a plea. derick almena and max harris have been in custody for two weeks and were scheduled to make a plea today. however, both suspects remained silent. both attorney's are saying both almena and harris may have not been able to focus today because they are having a difficult time in custody. (steve) both almena and harris face 36-counts of involuntary manslaughter. their attorneys say they are trying

to get almena and harris out of custody. both men will appear back in court before a judge in july. (pam) an attorney for one of the deadly ghost ship warehouse defendants ... spoke out today, telling the media, his client is innocent. (pam) curtis briggs, who represents max harris says, harris is not the type of man responsible for killing 36 - people. briggs was also joined by family members, as they called harris a loving person who is innocent.

story is playing out as we speak in minnesota. that's where a jury today found a police officer...not guilty...in the killing of a black man...and now...there's a large protest.(pam) grant lodes has been tracking this case since last july... he is here now... with what is currently taking place on the streets... and what happened earlier today in court. (grant) officer jeronimo yanez shot and killed philando castile during a traffic stop last july just outside saint paul. today, he was aquitted of manslaughter. the shooting gained national attention when castile's girlfriend broadcasted the shooting on facebook live. during the trial... officer yanez testified he feared for his life because castile reached for his gun, despite being instructed not to. yanez shot castile five times in the chest. after the verdict, the city of saint anthony, minnesota announced that officer yanez will no longer be on the force. a few

hundred people are protesting the jury's decision. they're marching from minnesota's capitol in saint paul...to show their outrage. earlier there were lots of kids walking with the group. some are carrying signs that read "unite for philando" and "black lives matter." they're chanting "no justice, no peace, prosecute the police." there have not been reports of voilence or property damage. we'll monitor the situation and break in if things change. (steve) three suspects have been arrested in the brutal beating of a lyft driver on highway 101.. the incident happened back in march... bystanders captured the assault on video that eventually helped c-h-p identify the suspect... 25-year-old gabrielle rodriguez.... 19-year-old

jarrelle williams and 33-year-old derwayne johnson were all arrested on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon...batter y...and vandalism. investigators say this was the first time that motorcycle sideshow activity ended in violence and they hope the arrests of these suspects sends a message to anyone thinking about doing something like this again.. investigators say they have an arrest warrant for a 22-year-old san francisoc resident, quintrell anderson who is considered the 4thsuspect connected to this case. (pam) statistics show that one- in- 8 californians... struggles with hunger... either having nothing to eat, or not knowing where or when their next meal will come. bay area. the local food bank says one in 4 people in our community are food insecure. many are children. (steve) we are learning new details about the man who opened fire inside a u-p-s facility in san francisco earlier this week... police say 38-year-old jimmy lam shot and killed three co- workers before turning the gun on himself. kron 4's charles clifford is live in san francisco tonight with the latest details.... well, it's starting to appear that jimmy lam. .the shooter in this case . . . may have been a very troubled man who struggled with personal issues for a long time before wednesday's shooting at this ups facility. on friday, the associated press reported that an sfpd official has told them that jimmy lam, the suspect in

wednesday's deadly shooting at this ups facility, may have felt disrespected by his colleagues. one of lam's co- workers also told the a-p that lam had struggled with depression and personal problems for years. among his past issues, lam was convicted twice of driving on a suspended license. in 2010 he was convicted of driving under the influence and sentenced to three years' probation.at some point he may have also been involved in a dispute with a girlfriend over visitation rights for their child. but while more is being learned about jimmy lam's past, his motive for shooting and killing three coworkers remains a mystery.we reached out of the sfpd on friday, but they declined to comment stating that the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.meanwhile, the family and friends of those who died continue to mourn. in san francisco's diamond heights neighborhood a memorial for 46- year old michael lefiti continues to grow. people we spoke to on friday couldn't believe that anyone would have a problem with him.sota gofund me page has also been set up for another victim, 50 year old benson louie, to help his family pay for funeral expenses.

finally, we have also learned that jimmy lam may have taken several months off from work to try to deal with his issues. in san francisco, charles clifford kron 4 news. (pam) covering california... a search is still underway.. as deputies continue to look for a man swept away by the merced rver.(pam) 36-year-old jose castaneda was last seen wednesday... swimming with his 3-year-old daughter and pregnant wife. crews say, castaneda's daughter was swept away by the current, and both he and his wife went after her. both the wife and child made it to safety, but castaneda never resurfaced. now, officials are warning people of the dangers of swimming in a river.

florida... reporter brendaliss gonzalez explains how strangers are now coming forward to defend the customer ... nat sound:"listen to me."this is the response- nat sound:"do you have papers?." this seven-11 clerk gave the man taking this video after he'd asked for a pack of cigarettes in broken english. nat sound:"is he here legally?" yasmany rodriguez recorded the encounter after a few bystanders stepped in to his defense. nat sound: days later- the video is spreading- carlos perez:"racism is not dead. stop the ignoranceand now this stranger- is speaking up for rodriguez- who by the way- is a legal u-s citizen who moved here from cuba. carlos perez:"it's unfair that you're not allowed to treat people like that no matter what." a spokesperson for seven-11 emailed us the following statement, quote ... "every customer is important. the statements made by the sales associate were inappropriate and offensive. we are investigating the matter and will ensure it is handled appropriately,"

(pam) changes are coming to marriott hotels cancellation policy... the hotel chain used to require a 24-hour notice if a guest wanted to cancel their reservation. but now the policy is changing to 48-hours. hotel officials say it is partly because last-minute cancellations left many hotel rooms unfilled. the new rule applies to marriott-owned hotels in the u-s, canada, latin america and the

pharmacy wisconsin senator tammy baldwin is working on bill aimed at stopping dramatic price increases in prescription drugs. baldwin: "if we're talking about a life- saving medication or something that affects people's wellbeing -- i just think it demands our action."under the bill, -- if a drug company

wants to raise the price of a medicine by 10% or more within a year, the company would have to explain to health and human services why the price increase is necessary. baldwin: "we know that the drug corporations have been jacking up prices." pharmaceutical trade group, phrma, says lawmakers are focusing on the wrong issue. phrma argues drug makers are not the reason some medicines have become unaffordable. they say the insurance companies are to blame."patients are being asked to pay a larger and larger share of their medicines cost, they're having higher deductibles, more coinsurance and copays that are making it difficult for them to afford medicines." 1:59 phrma also says instead of regulating pharmaceutical companies, lawmakers should look at the fda. phrma:. right now it takes too long and costs too much to get a medicine approved and to the market for patients. but senator baldwin argues drug companies are raising prices on medicines simply because they can. she hopes forcing them to justify price increases will change that.
