tonight... triple digit temperatures hittting the bay area and are already causing problems in many cities... good evening and thanks for joining us i'm j-r stone... justine waldman has the night off... meteologist lawrence karnow is here to tell us that temperatures are just going to get hotter... lawrence karnow: it was a record breaker as temperatures soared into the 90s and triple digits in the bay and valleys. people were flocking toward the coast to beat the heat. we are at the beginning of a heat wave as we head into the first few days of summer. the heat advisory has now been extended to thursday as the strong ridge of high pressure is expected to stick around until then. there's a little breeze but not as stong as yesterday. if you're going out tonight
the temperatures will be very warm to mild away from the coast. we are starting to see some fog forming near the coast. that's a sign that at least some places will cool tomorrow. (jr stone) the heat wave is causing major problems across the bay area... as tens of thousands of people are without power again for a second night... at last check... 32-thousand people are without power... over 4-thousand in san jose.... over 3-thousand in livermore and over a-thousand in pleasanton... the extreme heat is causing many people to use their air conditioners causing an overload on electric lines and transformers... p-g-and e crews are working throughout the night to restore the power... so far only 10-thousand customers have their power back on... no word on when power will be fully restored... they are asking customers to conserve energy during this heat wave
to prevent power outages... (jr stone) another big story we are following tonight is out of london... one man is dead and 10 people are hospitalized after a van slams into crowds near a mosque in london. and now police are investigating it as an act of suspected terrorism... police say the driver of a van that hit pedestrians is a 48-year-old man who has been arrested and taken to a hospital. the crash happened just after four our time... that's about midnight in london where worshipers were leaving a mosgue... after attending prayers as part of the muslim holy month of ramadan. a leader of the muslim council of britain has called for extra security at mosques in the area.... this latest incident comes after a similar crash earlier this month, a van veered into pedestrians on london bridge, setting off vehicle and knife attacks that killed eight people and wounded many others
on the bridge and in the nearby borough market area. three muslim extremists who carried out the attack were killed by police. another story we've been tracking. the bay bridge is back to normal tonight after an officer involved shooting closed it for several hours this morning... police say it all started with a car crash. officer were clearing the scene of an accident when a red sedan started driving toward officers. police gave multiple commands telling the driver to stop...and when the driver continued barreling towards them...an officer fired several rounds into that vehicle....hitting the driver. (sot) (jr stone) as of right now we don't know the condition of the driver police are currently investigating if drugs and or alcohol...played
a role in the incident. (jr stone) in a story you'll only see right here on kron4 news... learning to walk again while coping with the loss of her unborn child. a santa rosa woman hasn't returned home yet after police say she was hit in a dui crash weeks ago. tonight that woman is speaking exclusively to kron 4's ella sogomonian about her road to recovery. a split second mistake by a dui driver on highway 12 in santa rosa has changed elizabeth ehrmann-subia's life forever. the 33 year old is learning to walk again at a physical therapy clinic in santa rosa. sot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"i remember coming to and thinking it was bizarre that my arm was hanging out of the ca because i was driving with my windows closed. and then i remember thinking i hurt a lot in a lot of unusual places."it's been almost one month since she was hit on highway 12 by merced avenue. police believe the driver was
under the influence of methamphetamines.ehrmann-subia cautions other driverssot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"it's not worth it. i didn't even see him coming. i didn't have time to hit the breaks."erhmann-subia was on her way to sebastapol just before 5 that night to pick up her 2 year old daughter.sot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor// "if i had lost our daughter. mentally i wouldn't have survived. i can't even think about it."santa rosa police report 40 year old tristan taliesin drove into her lane causing the head on at 22 weeks pregnant she lost her unborn baby as a result. sot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"she was a very wanted child we went through fertility treatments." erhmann-subia has had six surgeries since.surgeons operated on a ruptured bladder, an emergency c section, her crushed pelvis, a hernia, and a broken ankle. sot: elizabeth ehrmann-subia, crash survivor//"i've had to relearn a lot. i have to scoop my body to get onto a toilet. everything has to be assisted. if something falls on the
floor i need someone to help to pick it up. i can't work i can't see my kid every day." elizabeth says she feels sorry for the man who caused this grief saying she can't imagine feeling responsible for taking the life of a baby and forcing someone to learn to walk again. heartache aside - erhmann-subia is ecstatic to return home on wednesday and be back with her family.in santa rosa ella sogomonian kron 4 news. (jr stone) the death toll continues to climb in portugal as an out of control wildfire tears through the central part of the country. you can see the flames shooting into the sky in portugal where 62 people are now confirmed dead, dozens of others injured in what officials are calling, "the greatest wildfire tragedy of recent years." officials say some of the victims burned to death in their cars as they tried to flee. they say there are 700 firefighters on the frontlines but that is still not enough to battle the flames. government officials believe a dry thunderstorm sparked the fire.

(murmuring) - a house fire in santa rosa kills two dogs and the cause of that fire could be a charging hoverboard. - as you can see behind me there was serious damage to this home here in santa rosa. there was a mattress burned outside the home. a neighbor tells me that two dogs, including a golden retriever, died because of the fire.
