swim coach is arrested after asking underage members of his team for nude photos.( mark ) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live in san jose this morning with the details. lydia. ( lydia )police say 25-year old timothy nguyen formed a bond with the children by talking about swimming classes but that soon turned in a different direction.(take vo) police say after nguyen earned his victims trust he then asked for nude photos or sexual favors from both boys and girls on the quicksilver swim team.the quicksilver swim is a private youth swimming organization that operates out of gunderson high school in south san jose.nguyen was the assistant coach.he is charged with annoying or molesting a child under 18 and intimidating or persuading a witness or victim.

(darya) breaking overnight... a swarm of earthquakes hits near truckee. (mark) anny hong is at the breaking news desk with the details. anny. (anny) there were a total of seven quakes overnight. all were bigger then a 2- point-5 magnitude quakes. the first quake was a 3- point-7 magnitude quake that hit just after 2:00 this morning. then about seven minute later is when the largest of the small quakes hit. that one was a 3-point-9 magnitude. the last quake hit at 5:43 this morning. that was the smallest quake which measured a 2-point-6 on the richter scale. there are no reports of any damage or injury.(anny) there were a total of seven quakes overnight. all were bigger then a 2-point-5 magnitude quakes. the first quake was a 3-point-7 magnitude quake that hit just after 2:00 this morning. then about seven minute later is when the largest of the small quakes

(mark) this morning... it may be two weeks before police know if human remains found in the east bay belong to a missing san francisco father. and kron 4 went to the home of the main person of interest in the man's disappearance to see if his family would talk. we went to the home of bob tang and nobody answered the door. but shortly after we knocked somebody did leave the house. tang, who you see on the left here, is the main suspect in the disappearance of piseth chhay. d-n-a tests are being done to determine if remains found in the east bay over the weekend match chhay's who has been missing since mother's day. police are continuing to look for bob tang after human remains were found at a hayward warehouse on saturday. employees at the warehouse say tang worked

there for more than 20 years. chhay and tang were friends, and chhay's wife says the two were together the morning chhay went missing. police believe tang fled to cambodia in may. his car was previously recovered at s- f-o. tang's neighbors spoke to kron four after the remains were found. (mark) police say it will be about two weeks before they get the results of the d-n-a tests. back to you. ( darya ) a father dies while trying to save his 5-year old daughter from drowning. 40-year old roni avila from san francisco is being remembered on social media as a loving husband, father and friend. he was out kayaking with his daughter south of rio vista when their kayak overturned on sunday. neither of them had on a life jacket. avila and his daughter both went under but

he surfaced... holding her above the water. witness say she was rescued up by a good samaritan. avila then went under again ... and he did not come back up. the family has set-up a 'go fund me' account to help raise money to bury him in san francisco. you can find a link on our website kron- 4 dot- com. ( darya ) in the east bay... one person is hospitalized after a house fire in castro valley. it happened last night on carlton avenue. people living in the home were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived. the alameda fire department were able to save two dogs was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation... that person be okay. ( mark ) the u-s supreme court is allowing some parts of president trump's revised travel ban to go into effect. people from six muslim- majority countries will be barred from entering the country for 90 days -- unless they can provide evidence of links to the u-s -- such as family, a college admission, or a job offer. the white house said the ban was for national security reasons -- not religious ones. the court will hear full arguments

on the travel ban in the fall. ( mark ) and travelers here in the bay area say they are not happy that parts of the travel ban have been reinstated... especially when it comes to refugees: ( mark ) officials at s-f-o say the airport is prepared in case they see protests in reaction to the travel ban. ( darya ) the effort to recall superior court judge aaron persky has taken a big first step. persky was criticized for what many called a lenient sentence for a former stanford athlete. brock turner was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman who was unconscious. he was sentenced to just six months in jail. backers of the recall say that they

will begin collecting the 58-thousand signatures needed to qualify the recall for the june 2018 ballot. ( darya ) judge persky has not made any public comments about the turner case or the recall effort. ( mark ) the white house says they have found potential evidence that syria is preparing for another chemical weapons attack. officials say the potential attack would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including children. the white house has made it clear that if syria conducts another chemical attack they will pay a heavy price. earlier this year, the u-s ordered air strikes against syrian government forces.

they fired 59- tomahawk cruise missiles following a chemical attack on civilians by the syrian government. ( mark ) officials in new york say a teenage girl's own action caused her to fall out of a ride at an amusement park. it happened over the weekend at a six flags park near albany, new york. the 14-year-old was riding the sky ride gondola with her brother - when she slipped. her brother held her as a crowd gathered below to catch her. she fell about 25 feet into the arms bystanders. she was not seriously injured. the local sheriff says that 'human error' on the part of the teen caused her to slip under a restraining bar. authorities say the safety features on the ride were functioning properly. ( darya ) a major road in santa cruz county is back open after it was destroyed in the storms in february. an official ribbon-cutting welcomed back drivers on the soquel san jose road after months of detours. but county officials want people to know that this is only a temporary fix. but plans

( mark ) the toll to cross the golden gate bridge is about to go up. starting on monday...the price you will pay is going up 25 cents ..to $7.75. those who have fastrak passes will still get a discount, paying $6.75 per crossing. officials say the price hike is needed to meet a budget shortfall. ( mark ) the sonoma-marin area rail transit district is offering free preview rides on its smart train. it is happening between rohnert park and the marin civic center stations starting on thursday. the district will also run trains between the sonoma county airport station and the marin county fair at the marin civic center on july first and july fourth. the free preview is in advance of full regular train service between

the airport station and downtown san rafael. a starting date for the regular service has not yet been announced. ( mark ) major wildfires could make this an especially long, hot summer on the west coast. tens of thousands of acres have been scorched in a number of states including california... and the fires are likely to continue.( darya ) anny hong is here with the details. ( anny @ land ) three states have had to deal with these wildfires including two areas of california. a car crash caused the manzanita wildfire burning in los angeles. it has burned nearly 12-hundred acres. people living in the area have been warned about the possibility of evacuating. another wildfire is burning near san luis obispo that has forced two-hundred people to evacuate. in utah...the brian fire has also forced evacuations and scorched 46-thousand acres.

make good plans, we ensure the safety of firefighters and the public, we make sure that we're moving in the right directions.">( anny ) nearly 15-hundred structures are still threatened in utah. arizona is also dealing with several fires. these fires are not expected to stop anytime soon with temperatures expected to reach triple digits. ( mark ) the european union is now fining google over 2-billion dollars. today, the e-u is accusing the mountain view-based company of breaching anti-trust rules with its online shopping service. regulators say google is abusing their power as a search engine. they say google elevates its shopping service when there are possibly other deals out there. the internet giant has up to 90 days to stop or face the two-point-seven billion dollar fine. ( darya ) dozens of potential jurors have been excused from the trial of martin shkreli because they claimed they couldn't be impartial. jury selection continues today in the fraud trial against the former pharmaceutical company executive. during jury questioning yesterday, several jurors said they could not ignore shkreli's reputation

for raising the price of a life-saving drug by five-thousand percent. the 34-year-old was arrested last year on conspiracy and other charges unrelated to the price- gouging scandal. (mark) bill cosby's next trial could be taking place in southern california. a hearing is scheduled today in santa monica to set a trial date. this next lawsuit accuses him of raping a teen at the playboy mansion more than 40 years ago. judy huth filed the lawsuit against cosby for the incident at the mansion in 19-74 when she was 15-years-old. the hearing comes less than two after a pennsylvania jury deadlocked on criminal charges against cosby accusing him of raping a temple university worker. cosby's legal team declared victory after the pennsylvania mistrial, however prosecutors have vowed to retry him. (mark) and bill cosby is no longer part of a mural at the side of a restaurant in washington d-c. the original mural outside of ben's chili bowl had cosby next to former president obama.

the images started to wear down, so the restaurant had the mural re-done last week. about a dozen famous african americans are pictured in it, but not cosby. a national online poll decided which faces would go in the new mural. ( darya ) crews are stepping up efforts to fix the damaged spillway at the oroville dam before the next rainy season. engineers have created a replica of the dam and are testing it in utah. this way they can figure out which repairs will work the best as they fix the damage from this past winter. they are also using computers to come up with designs for the repairs... but engineers say there is no replacement for the tests being done on the replica. the repairs are expected to cost 300-million dollars... and are supposed to be wrapped up by the beginning of november. (mark) beach goers in spain had quite the scare when a shark came dangerouly close to shore. the shark seemed to struggle just to get back into shallow water. lifeguards closed the beach while this was happening. officials from an aquarium were called into look for the shark. they later found it and captured it. the shark looked like it had a deadly head injury caused by a harpoon. it is not clear

if the shark was injured before or after it was seen near the beach. (mark) a car loses control and nearly crashes into a bus in missouri. it was all caught on the bus's camera. police say the car had been involved in a drive by shooting moments before the crash. after the car barely misses the bus...the car then hits a tree and then a light pole. no one on the bus was severely injured. (mark) a new report shows that our pets are becoming more obese. that's according to a new report from banfield pet hospital. (darya) researchers looked at health habits of the 2.5 million dogs and 500-thousand cats that visit their facilities each year. they found that one in three pets was overweight or obese. (mark) veterinarians say they have found more than 20 diseases linked to pets being overweight. they say a healthy weight could prolong your pets life and delay chronic disease. (darya) it is also easier on your wallet.

over a four year period... owners of overweight dogs spent 17-percent more in vet costs and owners of overweight cats spent 36-percent more. (mark) complaints of health problems related to cosmetics and personal care items has more than doubled over the past year. that's according to a new study from northwestern university. (darya) researchers say most of the products that cause harm are on store shelves because the manufacturers don't have to get approval from the f-d-a before cosmetics go on sale. the majority of the complaints was hair loss from hair care products. (mark) chemicals found in beauty products have been linked to cancer and allergic reactions. senator diane feinstein recently introduced a bill that would require stricter regulations of personal care products. ( mark ) they can't keep up with the massive rush of people trying to get passports. kron 4's yoli aceves is live in san mateo where a post office is already open this morning to help deal with the back log of passport applications. ( mark ) the congressional budget office releases it's findings on the new senate proposed health care bill... and many say the numbers don't look too good. ( darya ) anny hong is here with details on how it could affect you. anny? (anny @ land) the congressional budget office says the senate republican health care bill would leave 22-million additional people without health insurance by 20-26. like the house version of the bill that passed in may, this version would end enhanced medicaid expansion, eliminate coverage mandates, and allow insurers

to charge older policy holders more. premiums would be down about 20% over the next 10 years for the average customer, and the u.s. deficit could also be cut by $321 billion dollars. but those in the individual insurance market would be hit with dramatic increases for services. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is scrambling to get enough votes for the bill, and these new numbers may not help.

july recess. ( mark ) a judge dismissed two felony charges for conspiracy to obstruct justice against a former oakland police officer. the charges were dropped after prosecutors refused to disclose the name of a confidential informant in the prostitution case. 27-year-old ryan walterhouse still faces one misdemeanor count of engaging in an act of prostitution. a prostitute testified that walterhouse gave her his number and solicited her for sex after he met her while patrolling in oakland last year. walterhouse resigned from the oakland police department in december. this case is ánotá related to the police sex scandal involving a woman formerly known as celeste guap. ( mark ) a man is behind bars this morning accused of killing his son in richmond. it happened saturday morning at a home on groom drive. police say the call came in as a family dispute. when they arrived, they found the 18-year-old son had been shot in the chest. they arrested the 59-year-old father on homicide charges. ( darya ) the teenage girl

who fell to her death from a cliff in san francisco was walking in an area that is closed off to the public. we first told you about this story last week on the kron 4 morning news. park police say 17-year-old victoria la rocca and two other teens ignored warning signs when they walked to the painted rock cliff's edge... located at land's end. that is where la rocca fell nearly 200 feet and landed on a large rock. rescuers transported her to china beach where she later died. the two teens with la rocca admitted to investigators that they knew the area was closed when they entered. ( darya ) we now know the names of two people who were killed while trying to break into a home in brentwood. the coroner identified the men as 38-year-old ellis williams and 32-year-old joseph brooks. both are from antioch. surveillance video briefly shows the incident from last wednesday. investigators say one of the men had a gun and the homeowner defend himself with his own weapon.

the case is being considered "justifiable homicide." ( mark ) police say a southern california father killed his five-year-old boy after a trip to disneyland.. in order to get back at his wife after their divorce. the boy's father has been charged with murder. aramazd andressian senior was arrested friday in las vegas, about two- months after his son's disappearance. andressian was supposed to drop off his son with his mother but was later found unconscious inside a car doused in gasoline. if convicted, he faces up to 25-years to life in prison. service lyft is making a move to ease congestion. they released an update to their app yesterday that adds the option for users to walk a short distance to meet their ride.(mark) you will be able to accept or decline the option to walk. a similar feature is already part of lyft's carpooling service, but will now be available to single riders. the idea is to speed up people's rides by coordinating the pickup. san francisco supervisor jane kim applauds lyft for adding the option, but says more needs to be done to ease congestion. (mark)

n-b-a's defensive player of the year award. after being runner-up for the past two years... the warriors forward finally has the gold. he accepted the award last night at the first ever n-b-a awards show. he becomes the only player in warriors history to win the award. green was among the top players in the league this past season in both steals and blocks. warriors general manager bob myers was named the executive of the year last night as well. (darya) russell westbrook has won the nba's mvp award after setting a record with 42 triple-doubles last season. the oklahoma city all-star joined oscar robertson as the only players to average a triple-double for an entire season, leading the thunder into the playoffs after kevin durant left for golden state. westbrook beat out houston's james harden and san antonio forward kawhi (kuh-wy') leonard for the league's top honor. he ended the two-year reign of stephen curry, who last season was the league's first unanimous mvp. it capped off the nba awards show monday night, which included stirring tributes to monty williams, craig sager and bill russell. awards show, many of the players at the event made fashion statements on the red carpet. westbrook is known for his fashion decisions. for this event he was a bit more conservative. (darya) the giants might be struggling on the field this season... but they're still making sure to keep a smile on the faces of their fans. brandon belt and joe panik put on a show with pizza dough yesterday at the george mark children's house in san leandro. the giants along with pizza connoiseur tony gemignani (jem-ig-nani) hosted a party for the childeren. the players signed autographs and took photos with everyone in attendance. ( darya ) your cash is probably covered in germs and drugs. a new study identified over a hundred different strains of bacteria on dollar bills.( mark ) and traces of cocaine can be found on 80 percent of dollar bills. other drugs like heroin and meth also showed up on the bills but not as often. other things found on the money include animal d-n-a from people's pets and food molecules. but the study also points out that disease transmission from money is rare, and researcher are looking at ways of cleaning money between transactions.

( mark ) major wildfires could make this an especially long, hot summer on the west coast. tens of thousands of acres have been scorched in a number of states including california... and the fires are likely to continue.( darya ) anny hong is here with the details. ( anny @ land ) three states have had to deal with these wildfires including two areas of california. a car crash caused the manzanita wildfire burning in los angeles. it has burned nearly 12-hundred acres. people living in the area have been warned about the possibility of evacuating. another wildfire is burning near san luis obispo that has forced two-hundred people to evacuate. in utah...the brian fire has also forced evacuations and scorched 46-thousand acres.

longer part of a mural at the side of a restaurant in washington d-c. the original mural outside of ben's chili bowl had cosby next to former president obama. the images started to wear down, so the restaurant had the mural re-done last week. about a dozen famous african americans are pictured in it, but not cosby. the restaurant says it has nothing to do with the recent sexual assault allegations against him. a national online poll decided which faces would go in the new mural. ( mark ) crews are stepping up efforts to fix the damaged spillway at the oroville dam before the next rainy season. engineers have created a replica of the dam and are testing it in utah. this way they can figure out which repairs will work the best as they fix the damage from this past winter. they are also using computers to come up with designs for the repairs... but engineers say there is no replacement for the tests being done on the replica. the repairs are expected to cost 300-million dollars... and are supposed to be wrapped up by the beginning of november. could make this an especially long, hot summer on the west coast. tens of thousands of acres have been scorched in a number of states including california... and the fires are likely to continue. three states have had to deal with these wildfires including two areas of california. a car crash caused the manzanita wildfire burning in los angeles. it has burned nearly 12-hundred acres. people living in the area have been warned about the possibility of evacuating. another wildfire is burning near san luis obispo that has forced two-hundred people to evacuate. in utah...the brian fire has also forced evacuations and scorched 46-thousand acres. ( darya ) nearly 15-hundred structures are still threatened in utah. arizona is also dealing with several fires. these fires are not expected to stop

(mark) a new report shows that our pets are becoming more obese. that's according to a new report from banfield pet hospital. (darya) researchers looked at health habits of the 2.5 million dogs and 500-thousand cats that visit their facilities each year. they found that one in three pets was overweight or obese. (mark) veterinarians say they have found more than 20 diseases linked to pets being overweight. they say a healthy weight could prolong your pets life and delay chronic disease. (darya) it is also easier on your wallet. over a four year period... owners of overweight dogs spent 17-percent more in vet costs and owners of overweight cats spent 36- percent more. (mark) complaints of health problems related to

cosmetics and personal care items has more than doubled over the past year. that's according to a new study from northwestern university. (darya) researchers say most of the products that cause harm are on store shelves because the manufacturers don't have to get approval from the f-d-a before cosmetics go on sale. the majority of the complaints was hair loss from hair care products. (mark) breaking news... a military post in alabama is on lockdown right now amid reports of an active shooter. this is a live picture from redstone arsenal in huntsville. in a tweet... they are telling workers to "run, hide, fight". officials say they received reports of a person armed with a weapon at a building on the base. right now there are no reports of injuries. a safety drill was planned for today, but the report of a shooter was not part of any exercise. more than 30,000 people work daily at redstone it is home to army missile defense programs and other military offices as well as nasa's marshall space flight center. felony charges for conspiracy to obstruct justice against a former oakland police officer. the charges were dropped after prosecutors refused to disclose the name of a confidential informant in the prostitution case. 27-year-old ryan walterhouse still faces one misdemeanor count of engaging in an act of prostitution. a prostitute testified that walterhouse gave her his number and solicited her for sex after he met her while patrolling in oakland last year. walterhouse resigned from the oakland police department in december. this case is ánotá related to the police sex scandal involving a woman formerly known as celeste guap. ( darya ) a man is behind bars this morning accused of killing his son in richmond. it happened saturday morning at a home on groom drive. police say the call came in as a family dispute. when they arrived, they found the 18-year-old son had been shot in the chest. they arrested the 59-year-old father on homicide charges.

names of two people who were killed while trying to break into a home in brentwood. the coroner identified the men as 38-year-old ellis williams and 32-year-old joseph brooks. both are from antioch. surveillance video briefly shows the incident from last wednesday. investigators say one of the men had a gun and the homeowner defend himself with his own weapon. the case is being considered "justifiable homicide." ( mark ) crews are stepping up efforts to fix the damaged spillway at the oroville dam before the next rainy season. engineers have created a replica of the dam and are testing it in utah. this way they can figure out which repairs will work the best as they fix the damage from this past winter. they are also using computers to come up with designs for the repairs... but engineers say there is no replacement for the tests being done on the replica. the repairs are expected to cost 300-million dollars... and are supposed to be wrapped up by the beginning of november. ( mark ) ride hailing service lyft is making a move to ease congestion. they released an update to their app yesterday that adds the option for users to walk a short distance to meet their ride. you will be able to accept or decline the option to walk. a similar feature is already part of lyft's carpooling service, but will now be available to single riders. the idea is to speed up people's rides by coordinating the pickup. san francisco supervisor jane kim applauds lyft for adding the option, but says more needs to be done to ease congestion.
