(tiffany) that was ella sogomonian reporting. we continue our team coverage this morning with kron 4's spencer blake... who saw that despite strict rules and multiple police security checkpoints... things still got out of hand. this was just one of the more than a dozen arrests berkeley police made sunday at the anti-hate rally at civic center park.and it was one that brought ire from protesters."what makes me mad is the police, they're defending the nazis, but tackling everyone else. they're escorting the nazis peacefully because they know they're not welcome."police and right-wingers weren't the only recipients of judgment, though.multiple people at this anti-hate and bigotry rally told me that i, as a clean-cut white man wearing a shirt and

tie, fit the stereotype of an aryan neo-nazi."many people are hurt by words. the protesters only hurt people with their words, so"though we know there were non-word things like shields, smoke bombs, and pepper sprayit was often hard to tell from where and whom the projectiles were coming."a speck of pepper spray just wafted over and hit me in my eye right here.""i'm pleased to see that there's no bloody conflict like there was in april. i was here then and it terrified me."maybe not as visibly bloody, but two people still got hurt badly enough to go to the hospital."no, i don't want to see anybody hurt, but we seem to be unable to have a dialogue.""a few hours after some of the heaviest activity here at the park things did start to calm down but you can see some of the barriers that police had in place that some masked counter-protesters had knocked down. there was a line set up over on this side of police and protesters had made a defensive line that eventually broke that down as they came into the park." "i like what's happening here. i think there needs to be more awareness of what trump's up to and what the neo-nazis are up to." berkeley mayor jesse arreguin

says police made the right call by de-escalating the situation.he also called on the carpet those who threw smoke bombs and other acts of violence, saying, "fighting hate with hate does not work." in berkeley, spencer blake, kron four news. (james) the leader of "patriot prayer," joey gibson was chased out of the event in berkeley yesterday.... he was the lead organizer behind the canceled rally in san francisco saturday. kron four's lydia pantazes reports on the clashes between protesters and counter protesters in berkeley. in the middle of the crowd of protesters.... joey gibson.... the leader of patriot prayer, he's wearing the black hat, his hands in the air.gibson says his groups mission is free speech.but political leaders have said the group's rally's attract white supremacists.something gibson has denounced."i'm in the middle, so that's why i don't appreciate when people call me alt right. white supremacist, people try and put a label on me but you can't because i'm not even conservative."before
4:08 am
the rally in berkeley he told me he planned to attend...we asked him why?"so i'm just going to observe the situation and see what's happening, i don't want to just leave, i want to see. we have americans going into berkeley today and i don't want to just leave, i want to observe the situation and go from there."but once he got to the rally, the crowd chased gibson and his supporters out of the park... even getting hit by some type of spray, then a fight starts and the crowd chases him down the street.(nats)the same thing happened to several other people believed to be associated with right wing groups or known supporters of president trump.protesters chased them out of the park... (nats)our cameras caught this group being pushed out..."we confronted him as a white supremacist, why is he here, they were leaving so we wanted to make sure that our protest means zero neo nazism, zero white supremacy in oakland berkeley bay area."the group eventually got away from
4:09 am
protesters by going inside the berkeley police department.and while there were more than a dozen arrests, most of the protesters were remained peaceful."i mean there's some people out to cause trouble but the titanic majority are out to spread love and support each other." 4:10 am
under arrest by the berkeley police department, after he put his hands on another demonstrator. nathan says his family drove up from san diego for this. nathan/father was arrested- "we're trying to get my freaking stepmom out of the rowd and we're getting rushe dby everyone, trying to get out of there and that's all that happened." within a 15 minute span... police had arrested or detained four men. nathan says his family is not affiliated with any groups... but call themselves trump supporters... nats- 'we hate you, we hate you, we hate you, hate you, hate you." and, it was the so-called trump supporters who were shouted down... and, run out of the park.nats- "get the fáák outta here. fáák you. you're not welcome here aááhole." in berkeley, philippe djegal...nats- "nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye." kron four news. "this is unprecedented, there's a lot of rain, which neighborhood would you have to evacuate? every neighborhood, every community received water in the community, every bayou went over its banks. you cannot put in the city of houston 2.3 million people on the road. that is dangerous." for those who did not evacuate the houston area, most roads are impassable, leaving many people stranded and in need of assistance.for all the people who did evacuate, most will not be going home anytime soon.
