now at eight ... the wild gun motel battle that left a sheriff's deputy dead and two officers wounded... that story still developing in sacramento tonight.whoosha texas man escapes death by the slimmest of margins ... one of the amazing survival stories in the wake of hurricane harvey. whoosharmed but no longer dangerous ... richmond police say they've busted a gang responsible for crimes up and down the east bay.their violence marked some of the most egregious criminal acts that we've seen in the bay area in quite some timewhoosh and, he told friends he was being bullied by other students ... and school counselors wen't details about this week's deadly library shooting in new mexico .. on kron four news in prime time. (pam) a series of shootouts in sacramento ... has left one deputy dead... and two c-h-p officers injured. thanks for joining us, i'm pam moore.(steve) and i'm steve aveson.
8:01 pm least three suspects are incustody. grant lodes has been closely tracking developments and joins us now with more about the deputy who lost his life. (grant) this started as an investigation into a suspected car theft ring...and it ended with three law enforcement officers shot. the one who did not make 52-year old bob french. he's has been with the sacramento sheriff's department for more than two decades... he's survived by his children, grandchildren, and live in girl friend. most of the violence happened at a ramada inn.. not far from interstate 80.near fulton avenue and auburn boulevard. investigators checking into those vehicle thefts... arrested a couple of suspects after a brief chase this morning that ended in elk grove... then the officers returned to the ramada inn... after learning a stolen car ring was allegedly being run out of a hotel room there. the c-h-p was assisting the

sheriff's department with this case.. there were at least three different shootouts. the two c-h-p officers that were wounded... were hit during the first shootout. the suspect...shooting through the motel door and wall when officers knocked. a short time later, the suspect went to a motel balcony, and exchanged gunfire with deputies. that's when deputy bob french was hit. tonight...his brothers and sisters are remembering him.

after the balcony shootout that killed deputy french,,, the gunman managed to get into a car and tried to escape. however, he did not get very far... crashing and getting into another gun battle with law enforcement. this time he was hit and taken into custody. the two wounded c-h-p officers are expected to survive. there is no word on the suspect's condition...his name is also not being released. were looking for.. thousands of dollars .... stolen from a convenience store manager in east palo alto.((pam)) as she left her 7-eleven ... with the cash deposits for the day she was followed police say, by this man here... she then did something we are all told to do.. when we get into a car accident.((steve)) kron 4's justine waldman spoke with police who tell her this was a targeted attack she did not see this coming it was quickso quick the manager of this 711 on newell road had no time to react.on monday just before 10am, she left the store to drive to the bank with the deposits for the day a bag filled with thousands of dollars in cash.2shotsot no mask no disguise palo alto police srgt brian philip tells me before the manager left, she was being watched.sot it appears one of the suspects actually cased the 711 he came in he walked around the store went back to the car and waited there for about an hour until she leftshe then drove just a few blocks away .. to where the crime took place. standup justine waldmanhere at

the corner of newell and edgewood roads police tell me the victim was rear-ended. she then got out of her car and the suspect suggested she should take a picture of the damage which was minor... she did and that's when police say he yanked her phone away, grabbed the bank deposit bag filled with cash off her front seat. and took offsot she did everything right she had no way of knowing this was setup for a robberysecurity cameras caught a picture of the suspects' car.. a sliver sedan with a yellow paper plate.and a picture of the suspect as he scooped out the store.there is no good image of the second suspect. the driver of the car.police later found her stolen cell phone nearby.and now are looking for the suspects.sot she described one of them as an african american male in his 20s she believed the driver was possible a polynesian male with longer hairthe store manager, customers fondly called mama, did not want to be interviewed.while she wasn't hurt sot she was obviously targetedin east palo alto justine waldman kron 4 news

(pam) the search is on for a woman accused in an unprovoked stabbing of a man... at a senior housing complex in the north bay. (steve) san rafael responded after someone called saying they heard a man crying in pain. officers found the victim with wounds to his face, neck, head and chest. now they are looking for this woman. 26 year old unique lashonda gaimes.gaimes. investigators say gaimes knew the 66-year-old victim for more than five years. gaimes was invited to the victim's house and stayed overnight. then early in the morning ---she allegedly stabbed the man in his bedroom without provacation. she was last seen yesterday getting off a golden gate transit bus. that was at

the del norte= el cerrito bart station between six and six thirty a-m police say if you see her call them and do not try to contact her. (pam) amber cummings-- the self described "trans- patriot"-- says she plans to return to berkeley this weekend. she made the announcement at a park in antioch earlier today. cummings organized the "no to marxism in america" rally ... which was scheduled to take place at civic center park in berkeley last weekend. she ultimately cancelled that event due to safety concerns ... once the city of berkeley denied her event permit. still, thousands of counter anti-fascist protestors showed up, and berkeley police made 13 arrests at the park that day. (amber cummings/organizer): "these people are crazy. everybody is a nazi to them, ok. everybody's a fascist to them. the truth about these people are is they're violent marxists that run around with masks lie this and they're allowed to attack the people." cummings says, she will

be at civic center park in berkeley, at one o'clock saturday afternoon... and intends to deliver a speech. but, she says she does not want anyone to show up for it.. instead, she asks that people tune in on facebook live. (pam) san francisco police put out a one -million dollar warrant for a suspect in a sexual assault last year. back in june 20-16... officers accuse 37-year-old adrian hernandez -vasquez of sexually assaulting a victim in the panhandle area near golden park.. police say, the suspect and victim met socially prior to the assault. there are no other details at this time about the incident. again...swamping a nursing house and forcing it to be evacuated some patients had been sitting in water for up to 24 hours. all of the nurses stuck by their side --- until help arrived.(pam) it is just one of the many rescue stories we have been seeing come out of texas. and countless number of other people are still awaiting rescue..(steve) harvey unleashed its wrath on a wide swath east of houston, leaving thousands stranded in flooded homes. kristen holmes has the latest from houston.

seven alleged members of a violent richmond street gang are now behind bars.(pam) police say, the gang members are linked to a crime spree that swept through a number of east bay communities. and police say, they were not out to settle drug issues or turf wars... as kron-4 maureen kelly reports ---investigators say, they were randomly tormenting the public. police say the investigation into the gang called swerve team got rolling when a richmond detective reconized one of it's members in this surveillance video of an armed home invasion in fremont. now 7 members are in custody and one has a 24 million dollar arrest warrant out on connection to a slew of crimesincluding 3 murders. including the 2016 killing of 18 year old old otillio nicco martinez here's audio from

the 67 shots fired by 4 guns at close range. polcie say he was an innocent victim in the wrong place at the wrong time. natsthey are also being linked with 14 attemped murders. this surveillance video shows some of the members chasing a rival gang member into a richmond liquor store.the intended target hid in the broom closet and survived. but their bullets hit a 14 year old girl outside, another innocent bystander. their violence marked some of the most egregious criminal acts that we've seen in the bay area in quite some timethe fbi and multiple other east bay law enforcement agencies assisted richmond pd in this the gang's alleged crimes swept out into many suburban communities in 2 counties. they include the shooting of an orinda school board vice president and the pistol whipping her husband in front of her home during a robbery. they have also been connected with a gun battle in the parking lot of the willows shopping center in concord, at least one bullet piercing the window of a popular restauarnt. here's a homemade rap video made by gang membersas they flash weapons. several guns were confistacated in this investigation.this

(steve) an out of control wildfire is threatening several homes in northern california... and one person has been arrested ... suspected of starting it.(pam) the 'ponderosa fire' ... ballooned overnight.. and people are being told to evacuate.(steve) take a look. it has grown to 31-hundred acres ... and is burning to the northwest of forbestown. that is not far from the oroville dam. about 500- structures are threatened at this hour in the forbestown area at least ten homes have been destroyed and five others damaged. the flames have also wiped out several other buildings. firefighters are dealing with rugged terrain as they try to

happened.(pam) this incident started this morning, when police saw two women get into a stolen car. while arresting them, officers learned one had a room at the ramada inn in sacramento. when officers knocked on the door there ... they were ambushed, someone inside shot through the door and walls --- hitting two c-h-p officers. then, sacramento deputies got into a shootout with the suspect === who moved to the room's balcony. police say, that suspect had a high- powered rifle and shot sheriff's deputy bob french. the 21- year veteran of the force .... died on the way to the hospital. the two c-h- p officers are expected to recover. (steve) harvey makes landfall again in texas today. ravaging an area east of houston..including this nursing home where evacuations were made. all this as the death toll climbs. in the last 30 minutes we learned at least 31 people are dead

(steve) we are also learning about the accused teen gunman's plans. grant lodes is here with what new court documents are revealing. (grant) this is 16 year old nathaniel jouett. he's accused of opening fire in a public library...killing two people and injuring others. but the library wasn't his initial target. according to newly released court documents--- jouett planned to shoot up his high school but ended up going to the library instead. the teen later told police he didn't know why he picked the library. and didn't know anyone there. now people who were inside at the time are speaking out. lupe aguirre says he went inside to find his wife...and found himself cornered by the

accused gunman. aguirre says the teen was laughing and smiling the whole time. another woman ==lisa baird says he yelled at her "run!" and said why aren't you running, i'm shooting at you!" jouett's girlfriend has told c-n-n that the teen was distraught over what she says was a bullying incident on friday. jouett was on a two day suspension in connection with that incident. court documents say the 16 year old took the guns from his father's safe. he is facing nearly a dozen charges including murder and child abuse. (pam) new at 8. the fiancee of a lyft driver who was fatally shot in ohio says, he was trying to earn extra money to pay for their dream wedding. tyra ford says, she and 32-year-old mourice foster got engaged in march and were planning an outdoor wedding next summer. foster was fatally shot.... and a 31-year-old female passenger was wounded early monday in cleveland police
