7:47 am
francisco 49ers receiver marquise goodwin played and produced the team's biggest play of the year sunday against the new york giants. after san francisco's 31-21 win, goodwin posted to his instagram account that he and wife morgan's baby boy died sunday morning because of complications during her pregnancy."unfortunately, we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m.," goodwin wrote. "although we are hurt, i am grateful for the experience and grateful that god blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as morgan.c.j. beathard threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third score to lead the san francisco 49ers to their first win of the season with a 31-21 victory over the new york giants on sunday."the pain (physically, mentally & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. please pray for the goodwin family."despite the devastating loss, goodwin managed to play sunday and came up with an 83-yard touchdown pass from quarterback c.j. beathard in the first quarter, the longest play from scrimmage by a 49er this season.a clearly emotional goodwin evaded new york cornerback janoris jenkins and then blew a kiss to the sky before he crossed the goal line. he then knelt in prayer in the end zone as his teammates surrounded him.
7:48 am
goodwin quickly exited the locker room after the game to return to his family. the 49ers have a bye this week and won't return to practice until nov. 20. ( darya )cowboys owner jerry jones and falcons owner arthur blank went out of their way to avoid each other prior to sunday's game in atlanta between their teams.no surprise. the relationship between those two has gotten acrimonious since jones threatened to sue the nfl and some of its owners over roger goodell's contract extension. jones is even charging blank, head of the nfl's compensation committee, of being untruthful in his handling of the matter. ( darya )jerry jones owner appears to be at war with roger goodell. over the course of this week, it's been reported that the dallas cowboys owner is doing everything he can to prevent the nfl commissioner from getting a lucrative contract extension, going so far as to threaten the league and his fellow owners with a lawsuit. jones' beef with goodell likely stems from at least two
7:49 am
issues: the ongoing protests against police brutality and racial inequality by multiple players during the national anthem, and the pending six game suspension of cowboys running back ezekiel elliott for alleged domestic violence. jones has been vehemently opposed to the protests, going so far as to threatening to bench any player who kneeled. goodell, for his part, has served as a mediator between players and owners in hopes that both sides can see each other's points of view so that the movement can move from demonstrations on the field to action outside of it (goodell even co-authored a letter with seattle seahawks wide receiver doug baldwin to legislators in favor of sentencing reform). jones has downplayed the zeke elliot motive, saying in a radio interview that it was only part of a larger problem with goodell."this is simply about making sure that all clubs have input into not only the commissioner his extension, but also in future
7:50 am
years, his decision," jones said in a radio interview."we all see how impactful a commissioner's decisions can be in many areas. we've given him a lot of power. i think we need the checks and balances of ownership having to actually be in a position to not just suggest but approve of his decisions. so that's what this is about."it's unclear if jones will actually follow through on his threat - he's done it in the past - but the league is suffering from the conflict nonetheless. at the very least, the ongoing discord is making it harder for the tennessee titans to be sold. should he actually do it though, sports illustrated has a great breakdown on what that lawsuit could look like. ( darya )nfl commissioner roger goodell is reportedly asking for a $49.5 million annual salary and a private jet for life in contract negotiations with league owners."that number for roger just seems too much," an owner told espn's adam schefter and chris mortensen. "it's offensive. it's unseemly."
7:51 am
goodell's latest proposal also included lifetime health insurance for his family. his current deal includes compensation of roughly $30 million per year.the league issued a statement sunday to deny schefter and mortensen's report."the only element of the espn report that is true is that there is a regularly scheduled compensation committee conference call on monday," nfl spokesman joe lockhart said, per mike florio of pro football talk. "there is no basis in fact for any of the other reporting. those trying to peddle that nonsense are profoundly misinformed or deliberately trying to mislead." ( darya )gq magazine named its "men of the year" monday morning. on the cover is former nfl quarterback colin kaepernick.the magazine named
7:52 am
him named "citizen of the year."the editors wrote that his act of kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality earned him the honor. kaepernick recently filed a grievance against nfl owners, accusing them of colluding to keep him out of the league in retaliation for his outspoken views. ( darya )jerry jones owner appears to be at war with roger goodell. over the course of this week, it's been reported that the dallas cowboys owner is doing everything he can to prevent the nfl commissioner from getting a lucrative contract extension, going so far as to threaten the league and his fellow owners with a lawsuit. jones' beef with goodell likely stems from at least two issues: the ongoing protests against police brutality and racial inequality by multiple players during the national anthem, and the pending six game suspension of cowboys running back ezekiel elliott for alleged domestic violence. jones has been vehemently opposed to the protests, going so far as to threatening to bench any player who kneeled. goodell, for his part, has served as a mediator between players and owners in hopes that both sides can see each other's points of view so that the movement can move from demonstrations on the field to action outside of it (goodell even co-authored a letter with seattle seahawks wide receiver doug baldwin to legislators in favor of sentencing reform). jones has downplayed the zeke
