>>our top story tonight at 5.30 an earthquake hit the east bay this afternoon. people over say that they could feel it the other 4.3 magnitude quake hit just before one 15 this afternoon. >>kron four's michelle kingston is live at the usgs location at moffett field tonight. michelle what did the usgs have to say about this earthquake. >>well let's talk first about how many people felt that earthquake. i mean i was in san francisco. i didn't feel it out all, but i heard from people on twitter who felt it in fremont in santa rosa in sacramento and in san jose who felt that jolt who felt that
shaking luckily, no damage was reported. >>us a loud noise and then a jolt. >>what kind of scared me because i heard bradley i thought it was really big i didn't know that it was only like 4. i thought oh the way they are. >>a 4.3 magnitude earthquake rattled the east bay just after 1 o'clock this afternoon, according to the united states geological survey it happened on the green gold vault at one 11 just 7 and a half miles east of black hawk usgs officials say very few events have happened on this fault line in the past 20 years, a 5.4 and a 5.8 per felt in 1980 livermore but that's about it. after today's earthquake there were 2 aftershocks 0.5. >>we expect this aftershock activity to decay with time and magnitudes are going to go down also shaking was reported all over the east bay and as far north as sacramento and santa rosa some even reporting
shaking in san jose aside from light movement of dishes usgs officials say there is virtually no chance of damage with a 4.3 earthquake. and feeling are not feeling the shaking also depends on what you are standing or sitting on it really depends on. how close to the oven people are and what type of rock. >>or soil people are standing on so it can vary vary widely. the types of shaking people experience californians had been on high alert this month following the earthquake near ridgecrest on the 4th of july. >>usgs officials say today's earthquake is normal behavior of the fault in the bay area and others just a 4% chance will feel a bigger earthquake. then what we felt today over the next week. >>the 4.3 certainly is a very gentle reminder in our backyard that we do live in earthquake country and earthquakes can and will happen. >>we're going to head back inside one last time to speak with officials again, but i think the biggest take away is
here that there was no damage reported and there's just a 4% chance of us seeing a bigger earthquake than what we saw today. any time this week. let the menlo park michelle kingston kron 4 news. >>thank you so much michelle kron 4 1st told you about this earthquake through a push alert. make sure you download the kron 4 mobile app always get the latest breaking news in your neighborhood. >>a big story tonight there has been an increase in the number of homeless people at sfo officials say it's because of bart heart started running trains directly the sfo back in 2003 in the airport says. >>that provided a new way for homeless people to get to the airport and sleep in the terminals sfo is now partnering with far to try to make improvements and increased security at the station. >>the spokesman explains the new plants. >>one of the biggest components of this year's bard's efforts to address fare evasion issues in other words to prevent people from getting
onto bart without paying for the proper fair and i think one of the most tangible things that you'll be able to see at the airport bart station as a result of this. >>is enhanced barrier. currentty there are the turnstiles and can be easily jumped over with this move we're actually going to be paying for the installation of 5 foot tall 5 foot tall glass barriers that will make it very difficult for people to not jump the turnstiles to get in and out of the bart station in addition, there is currently there's a door that's about waist height that can easily be open and close and people may go in and out of that to evade paying a fair that door will also be replaced by a 5 foot steel door of buzz door if you will that will require the bart station attendant tube was authorized personnel in and out of that door so with the installation of these features is going to get a lot harder and for people to farah's aid at the airport bart station so that's one of the elements.
the other is a significant element of this agreement is the addition of another bart police officer in the airport stations are right now barred a staffing one bart police officer. throughout the day during the 20 hour period when the station is open as is going to be reimbursing bart for a second officer to be in that area during that entire 20 hour period. so we're essentially doubling the bart police presence at the sfo station. and you can watch more exclusive interviews like this on our streaming app. >>kron on there you can watch live local news 24 hours a day with no commercials visit kron on dot tv to start watching. >>are 240 the nays are 187. the resolution is adopted without objection the motion to reconsider is laid on the table. >>the house of representatives of voting about an hour ago to condemn president trump for
