(catherine) and i'm catherine heenan. officials say the 19 year old was rested onase wednesday. he's accused of killing another seaman in january when the two were assigned to a cutter in alaska.

(catherine) a california state appeals court has thrown out the only conviction against the man who shot and killed kate stienle on san francisco's pier 14. jose garcia-zarate was acquitted of murder in the 20-15 killing. he's been in custody facing gun charges-- but the court overturned a conviction today. that's because the judge failed to instruct the jury on one of his defenses. garcia-zarate was in the country illegally-- and had been deported five times before killing steinle. he claims he picked up the gun that was wrapped in a t- shirt-- and fired it accidentally. he's still in custody - facing ááfederal gun charges. (catherine) a state of emergency has been declared in florida.. hurricane dorian is now a dangerous category four storm -- packing winds up to 130-miles an hour..(pam) right now, people there are preparing for what could be the strongest hurricane to hit the state's east coast in three decades.. nadia

(pam) and now it is not just those living in florida who are hunkering down and preparing for the approaching storm.(catherine) kron4's justine waldman joins us in the studio... . justine - some people say they're going to just ride it out.. ? (justine) one of florida's busiest airports is shutting down operations in advance of hurricane dorian. orlando international airport announced today it is canceling its commercial flight operations for monday. in a statement-- the airport says it wants its 25- thousand employees safe with their families when the storm hits. two guys from california - one from la and one from sacramento - are vacationing in florida right. and they plan on staying through the storm.(justine) they have no idea what

they are in for... meanwhile... kennedy space center is preparing for the worst. tt includes moving the mobile launch site off its pad and into a save building. the crawler moves at aboututone mile an hour, so it took eight hours to complete.(justine) and lastly... take a look at this.. a close-up satellite video loop showing the developing eye of hurricane dorian from a noaa satellite. and .. noaa sent the first all-female crew to conduct a hurricane reconnaissance mission. the three-pilot crew were tasked with learning about hurricane dorian as it moved toward the u-s mainland. and now we want to send things over to chief meterologist lawrence karnow with more on the developing storm. . lawrence karnow: it was a patchy coastal clouds. highs

(catherine) 10 adults are in custody after san jose police investigated dozens of commercial burglariesin more than 10 bay area cities. since january police say a burglary crew targeted dozens of bike shops, construction shops, construction sites and school districts. police

originally got an arrest warrant for 6 of the suspects...and eventually arrested 4 other suspects as well. officers found things including guns, stolen driver's licenses, stolen credit cards, and narcotics. all 10 suspects were booked into the santa clara county jail. (pam) sirhan sirhan, the man who assassinated senator robert f. kennedy, was stabbed in a california state prison today. the attack is so severe he has been removed from the prison for treatment. the incident reportedly happened in one of the prison yards this afternoon. when correctional officers responded, they found sirhan with stab wounds.he is currently in the hospital in stable condition. the suspect in the assault has been placed in isolation. oc :03 "a long flight" (catherine) labor day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year to travel. whether you're flying or driving - we'll take a look at the worst day to travel. plus... the way the east bay is preparing for the next big earthquake.

(pam) in the east bay.. the municipal utility district says it has been working to make sure its water pipes survive a big earthquake. for the past few months, east bay - mud has been replacing old pipes ... with new earthquake resistant pipes in berkeley. crews are replacing about 28-hundred feet of old iron pipe, some

of which may have been in the ground for a century... crews are replacing it with new quake resistant pipe which should be able to flex and bend during a quake. the utility district's senior civil engineer says ... the shifting from the quakes.. is what causes the main breaks. (pam) this is just one of many projects east bay mud has in the works. the agency has about 42-hundred miles of pipe in its service area which it is working to replace. right now, it is averaging about 10- miles a year ... but is working to increase the replacement work to 17- to 20- miles a year. are the not confirmed if they are the police are responding to a shooting at ladd-peebles stadium, according to the mobile county sheriff's office crime map. there was a high school football game between leflore high school and williamson high school at the stadium. according to witnesses, the game had already ended at the time of the shooting.witnesses say there was a fight in the stands several minutes before the end of the game.this is a developing story. (pam) mosquito hunters in northern california are wasting no time... that's because they found a species of mosquito carrying the dangerous zika virus in a section of citrus heights... in sacramento county a day after the discovery, the sacramento- yolo mosquito and vector control .. started spraying for non- native mosquitos. and while they are not infected with zika virus, the mere presence of a carrier of a serious

and the raiders with a big transaction today. in a surprise move, the silver and black parted ways with linebacker brandon marshall. the former broncos defensive star signed a one-year deal with the raiders back in march after six seasons in denver. --it was thought the 30- year-old would be a key contributor to a unit that struggled mightily last year getting to the quarterback and forcing turnovers... however, he didn't make enough of an impact through camp. --on another note, the raiders made a significant investment on their offensive line... signing center rodney hudson to a three-year, 33-million dollar contract extension...24-million of which is guaranteed. --the deal makes him the highest paid center in the league... and he's worth it, as he's allowed only one sack since 2016. --also want to mention-- reports have surfaced the raiders will keep both nathan peterman and mike glennon on the roster. moving over to santa clara, the 49ers have already cut nine players, but no major transactions as of now. --the big story of the weekend will be who emerges as the primary backup quarterback between cj beathard and nick

(catherine)two dogs have been found safe after they were stolen from a dog rescue facility in san francisco. a third dog is still missing. áfamily dog rescueá says -- two purebred huskies and a pitbull were stolen wednesday night during a break-in. a decoy buyer helped police recover husky puppies that were stolen from a san francisco dog rescue on thursday, but a pit bull puppy is still missing. now the rescue is hoping for the safe return of the pitbull puppy. if you have any information about where the puppy is -- you are asked to call the family dog rescue in san francisco (pam) that wraps up kron 4
