in right now the rain has let up a little bit. we are near arizona mills but earlier it was incredible. we were farther down on the ten. and some incredible pictures we took earlier. let's take a look at that video. around 2:30 today we were driving toward sun lakes area and where we started to see the wall of dust moving along i-10. very similar to what we see during the monsoon. quickly that made its way rolling right through sun lakes up toward the and with that you saw just a thick wall of gray. thick wall of gray and tan. kind of that grit in your teeth, pretty dusty out there and always behind that dust we see the rains. some heavy rain in fact rolling in around the 4:00, 5:00 hour. not the best timing with rush-hour. the sky filled with lightning and the thunder just incredible. i saw one of our producers tweeted he felt this -- heard this roar and felt this rumble through downtown phoenix.
limited to the southeast valley. we have seen that activity move to the north and to the west. and the cooler temperatures, something we obviously enjoyed with this storm as well. last read, 61 degrees here in tempe. our afternoon high today as you will remember was forecasted to be around 84 degrees. 20-degree drop in temperature if not more in many locations across the valley and we aren't done with this storm. i will send it to dave with an update of where we are seeing those showers rht >> a very unusual storm come this late in the season. a very confused monsoon season this year. look at the moisture that's coming in. second storm of the day. earlier in the day wind gusts to 45 miles per hour. we have had a wind gust at sky harbor at 37 miles per hour. just a little bit ago and you can see here that there is a lot going on. we did have a tornado warning right in this area right here. that has been relieved.
that aviation weather warning until 6:45. what that means is they are watching the winds and the dust at sky harbor just to see what's going on. there is -- they are aware of the storm and there could be -- there isn't but there could be some action taken. look at all of this moisture coming in. we get down right into the street level here and give you a look at the east valley. big storms out there. not many people being missed. all the way out to apache we get you down into the northeast area, scottsdale, sunny slope and take you to the west side and getting hit just as well. we do have some numbers for you. as far as the amounts of rain we are seeing already. we will have that in a few minutes. you may have heard it or felt it or witnessed it last night. the storm was so powerful it knocked down a nearly 80 foot tree. take a look at the mess in arcadia this morning where the house where the tree was rooted
the tree fell into the street on top of a car. and the home owner said he is lucky it didn't fall on their house. >> came outside and saw this. >> some the other neighbors were outside and we were trying to figure out what was going on. first made sure everyone was fine and no one was hurt and confirmed that. and just tried to take in all of the damage. >> take a look now at the root of that tree that they estimated to ball of that tree ripped it right out of the ground. now remember you can keep an eye on if 24/7 with the fox 10 weather app. it's great, free achier vailable on our website, fox10phoenix.com. developing at 5:00, a valley toddler fighting to stay alive in the hospital with serious traumatic head injuries and head trauma. police have arrested the woman caring for the child.
>> reporter: very sad story out of this surprise farms neighborhood. that baby hanging on merely by a machine. he is on life support and this evening someone who they say was the girlfriend of the baby's father is behind bars. police tell us she admitted to hurting the baby inside of the home and it is the same home that neighbors say and saw some disturbing things going on. >> that's horrible. disgusting for someone to -- a one-year-old. >> the details of a one-year-old baby boy being so hurt he is now on life support has neighbors in surprise farms shattered. this is the woman who police say is behind the child's injuries. moreno, the father's girlfriend. according to court documents, moreno called 911 yesterday to report the baby boy was hurt. he was flown to phoenix children's hospital where doctors found very severe head injuries. they told police he may die.
and denied any abuse. court record goes on to say that moreno finally admitted to picking up the child and throwing him on the floor twice because he was crying and refusing to eat. today next-door neighbors tell me they saw signs something was wrong in the home. >> it was definitely dysfunctional over there. >> i showed them the mug shot and they recognized her as a woman they say they often saw getting frustrated with a young boy in the home. >> it's a lot of yelling and snatching going on. >> when i leave out of the i just hear like screaming and yelling and stuff. >> only wish now is that they hadn't ignored the signs. >> call the police. when i heard someone creaming call 911 but i thought they were just talking. >> yeah, unfortunately doctors at phoenix children's hspital don't believe the baby is going to survive the very severe brain injuries. that he sustained. he has a lot of bleeding going on in the brain. moreno is held at maricopa
she is charged with felony child abuse. those charges could change and more charges could come if the baby does die. we are live in surprise this evening. stefania okolie, "fox 10 news." thank you. police want to find a man accused of threating to shoot a store manager during a theft at home depot. take a look at this crystal clear surveillance video captured at the store near i-17 and thunderbird. the man grabbed two chain saws off the shelf and just walked ou t manager followed him out and confronted him, the suspect threatened to shoot him. he drove off in a white dodge durango. if you have any information call silent witness 480-witness. there is a reward for information leading to an arrest and you can as always remain anonymous. the arson investigate continues in gilbert after a massive condominium fire. remember this one the complex that was under construction went up in flames last month. >> now investigators have new
people who were at the scene that they want it to question now. marcy jones live in gilbert. this is the break they needed. >> absolutely. this is a key piece of information that police are hoping will lead to a big break. now it looks very different than it did just about three weeks ago over here. and like a lot of cases, time is of the essence, we are three weeks out since this happened and now police are asking anyone for any information. >> it was saturday about 7:00 p.m. when the condo under construction at 2:40 west juniper avenue went up into flames. gilbert fire and rescue as well as police are continuing the investigation and now they are asking the public for their help to identify two juvenile suspects seen in this surveillance video. because so much time has passed since the fire, the arizona advisory committee on arson prevention is offering a reward of $10,000.

i'm marc martinez working on brand-new stories for you coming up at 6:00 are. you feeling hungry? a new in and out burger that opened today in the valley. we will show you the busy shopping area where customers were lining up since this morning to be among the first in line. plus we are follow the storm activity that's moving across the state and the valley. it's a new images and video coming up at 6:00. boy, look at that. 64 degrees right now. those winds out of the west, southwest at 6:00 and they are up and down and getting up there around 15, 16 and then backing off again. 65 degrees in deer valley right now. 62 in ahwatukee.
so those temperatures coming down across the valley. in glendale 68 degrees. 67 in surprise. here is the moisture. there is more off to the north of us. this is the stuff that is affecting the city right in here. we will get down and take a look at it coming on through here. there is scottsdale as it rolls in. we back off a little bit. watch it come in from the south and there is sun lakes getting a good shot here. central phoenix right in here. and then look at these numbers. that's almost two maricopa. there is an inch and a half. there is a little over an inch right there another almost two inches over in the sun lakes area. and then you get a little southwest of phoenix and you get almost an inch in that area. we take a look at the stuff rolling at us now as it comes in from the southeast and we are sitting up in the northwest watching it come in our direction once again scottsdale here is peoria and avondale sitting here and then maricopa in the background.
from the east heading up into the northwest now and you can kind of see that moisture, a lot of the valley getting hit with this stuff. that's a big wide storm system that's rolling through there. once again we turn the numbers on. we saw that one before by maricopa. and then by casa grande almost an inch and a half and then down by eloy that's a little less than an inch and a half. two inches by coolidge. and then we get half an inch as we get a little closer into the phoenix aa. so a lot of moisture coming through. we look at that storm system once again and come rolling through there and then you get .02 an inch a little over an inch in the chandler area as we saw once already. and then you get into the future cast and you can kind of see that stuff rolling on out of here there is your high on the day at 84 degrees today. and then we get a look across the country. another big storm system moving
