>> reporter: yeah, jim. that couple was supposed to get married october 16th. those plans ended right here when police say another driver ran a stop sign. christine weir was killed on the spot right over her. her fiance was critically injured. it's what happened after the accident they still can't understand. >> christine is so cheerful, bubbly, that anybody that's met her with never for difficult to put into words. brenda and joe choiniere. >> it's horrible. >> reporter: on saturday their son brian and christine weir, both 33 years old, t-boned by a suspected drunk driver. the couple had been together since high school. she was killed instantly. he suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung. >> emotionally i don't think he

she was his -- the love of his life. >> reporter: 22-year-old ashley winn, who has been charged with felony drunk driving involving death, according to her arrest report, she admitted to drinking whiskey up until an hour before the crash. but while bail was set at just over $00,000. 00 -- over $200,000, she was released and allowed to go extracted from the car, she was out of jail. >> reporter: the judge later rescinded the o.r. release and winn was taken back into custody. >> you took away a wonderful girl who didn't drink at all and it was senseless. >> reporter: now the family remembers christine with orange ribbons, her favorite color and find comfort in messages on

here's mark barger to bring us more from townville. >> reporter: it happened just after lunch. reports of shots fired at townville elementary school near greenville, south carolina. authorities say three people at the school were hurt. >> one patient flown to the hospital. the other patients were taken to? -med health. >> reporter: the coroner said the injuries were not life-threatening. one student and a teacher has been released. there was one shooter, a teen, custody, thanks to an off-duty first responders. >> jamie, one of the townville firefighters, was one of the first responders to get on scene. he engaged the suspect and at that point took him down and then law enforcement was quickly behind him. >> reporter: about two miles away, authorities are at another scene. a man dead from a gunshot wound. they believe the two incidents are connected. >> there's a relationship between the victim and the

son. >> reporter: meanwhile, nervous parents rush to the school, one mother relieved to learn her daughter is okay. but she's still worried about other children. >> i pray for the families of those kids. >> reporter: students were taken to a nearby church where they were picked up by worried but relieved families while investigators try to piece together what happened and why. mark barger, nbc news. demonstrations continue tonight outside el cajon after a deadly police shooting. police were called to a strip mall about a man acting erratically. police released this photo of the moments just before the fatal shots. the guy in the back there by the white truck is the man shot. according to el cajon police, the man, alfred olango, pulling ed something out of pants

distraught, a man who was acting in ways that looked like he was in great pain. and i saw him get gunned down and killed and it broke my heart. >> in fact, alfred olango's relatives say he was suffering from mental illness. the veteran officers involved in the shooting are on mandatory leave for now. police in charlotte, north carolina say the gun keith scott was holding when he was shot and killed by officers had been reported to scott. his family insists he was not holding a gun but police say the gun they found at the scene has his fingerprints and dna on it. his death has sparked demonstrations that have turned violent at times. one man was killed in the demonstrations. dutch investigators say russia was behind the missile system that downed malaysia airline flight 17. they also say the system was then shipped back to russia.

at night may be at risk for something else, depression. that's according to the researchers at brigham hospital. they took medication and that causes a mimic of menopause. no matter how many hot flashes they had, their experience was linked to their changes in mood. also women who woke up a lot were more likely to have symptoms of depression during the study.

effect on a woman's mood. a team of northwestern university scientists has been able to use a 3-d printed synthetic bone to fuse vertebrae in a lab rat. the custom material is made mostly of a polymer and a ceramic and has a mineral found in hur -- in your teeth and bones. researchers say some day this could actually be used to quickly and easily b operating rooms. it's got be to the point that standing in line too much is too much. thanks to nissan, you can sit in a chair and it can move you forward in the line. >> who was the energy to stand there and move a couple of inches at a time? >> exhausting. >> it may be the next generation of lazy. just when you thought we had kind of reached the peak on that one. they are equipped with sensors so the chair detects and follows

and then 80s. and then off towards southeastern portions of the valley, pahrump, 75. sandy valley, they are at 8 had. 84. as you map out your day for yours thursday, we'll start in the mid-70s if you are heading out at 8:00 a.m. and we'll have the sun and clouds. a few showers possible but we'll flirt with the 90-degree mark in the afternoon. won't have any flirtation with e winds. nothing too significant. we've had very scattered action on the radar. right now, a little better intensity down here in parts of arizona. there is a chance if those hold together, they might skirt boulder city. tarantulas might get a quick drink as they push off to the northeast. there's more moisture. that's why we'll keep the chance for showers in effect at least through tomorrow.

also, a bus rams a car straight into a gas station. what police say happened moments before the dramatic crash. henderson police say a mother of three was killed by her own husband. thanks for joining us. i'm reed cowan. >> i'm marie mortera. news 3 has the police report on amanda kaplan's murder. we've learned she was death in front of her family. it's our top story. antonio castelan spoke with the victim's friends who remember her as a hard-working mom who loved her children. >> reporter: the murder victim's family would not talk on camera. but some of them believe this was an accident. that's what the murder suspect told police. for now, michael kaplan is here at the henderson detention center, facing a murder charge. new details are coming out of a henderson police report concerning 48-year-old michael kaplan. henderson police say on saturday
