also, a bus rams a car straight into a gas station. what police say happened moments before the dramatic crash. henderson police say a mother of three was killed by her own husband. thanks for joining us. i'm reed cowan. >> i'm marie mortera. news 3 has the police report on amanda kaplan's murder. we've learned she was death in front of her family. it's our top story. antonio castelan spoke with the victim's friends who remember her as a hard-working mom who loved her children. >> reporter: the murder victim's family would not talk on camera. but some of them believe this was an accident. that's what the murder suspect told police. for now, michael kaplan is here at the henderson detention center, facing a murder charge. new details are coming out of a henderson police report concerning 48-year-old michael kaplan. henderson police say on saturday

he told police he was unsure if he hurt the female on accident or on purpose. when police arrived to an apartment, they found kaplan's wife, amanda, in a pool of blood. she was in a bed with a kitchen knife next to her body. jewel price said the couple were having problems. >> she had left him and she -- when she moved here, my husband helped her unload and move into her unit. >> reporter: the report says t front of the three children. the arresting officer said kaplan had blood all over his hands. >> she told my husband, he used to beat her. she left him because he used to beat her. >> reporter: friends of amanda kaplan say she worked at dillard's and did uber. one friend wrote on facebook, my heart breaks finding out how amanda kaplan was taken from the world. it was an honor to work with her

the charges. pedro garcia is charged with killing 41-year-old aleksandr khutsishvili. garcia now has a public defender. he's in the county jail with no chance of bailing out for now. district attorney steve wolfson said this case is a top priority for his department. garcia will be back in court on friday. now to a developing story out of south carolina. a teacher and students, victims of a shooting are out of the police say the teen shot and killed his father at home two miles away from the elementary school. witnesses say the teen jumped the fence and fired shots after running on the playground. a volunteer firefighter took the shooter down and held him until police arrived. no word on the suspect, whether he knew the victims. hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the streets of

the shooting death of alfred olango. he was shot yesterday afternoon. when officers arrive, they say alfred olango did not comply with the commands and was acting erratically. investigators say he took a shooting stance and pulled an object from his pocket before being shot and tased by police. >> i saw a man who was distraught, a man who was acting in wayst in great pain. and i saw him get gunned down and killed and it broke my heart. >> no weapon was found at the scene of the shooting. alfred olango is said to have been mentally ill. the two officers involved in the shooting, 21-year veterans of the department, are on leave. from planning a wedding to have the more tasking a funeral in one moment. everything changed for the family of a pahrump woman

drunk driving. >> christine is so cheerful and bubbly. >> reporter: it's a loss that's difficult to put into words. brenda and joe choiniere grieving for what could have been. >> it was horrible. >> reporter: on saturday, their son, brian, and his fiance, christine weir, both 33 years old, t-boned by a suspected drunk driver. the couple had been together since high he suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung. >> emotionally, i don't think he will ever, ever get over this. she was his -- the love of his life. >> reporter: 22-year-old ashley winn, who has opinion charged with felony drunk driving involving death, according to her arrest report, she admitted to drinking whiskey up until an hour before the crash. but while bail was set at just

right after the accident and allowed to go hole. >> -- to go home. >> before my daughter-in-law was extracted from the car, she was out of jail. that's not right. >> reporter: the judge later rescinded the o.r. release and winn was taken back into custody. >> you took away a wonderful girl who didn't drink at all and it was senseless. >> reporter: now the family remembers christine with orange find comfort in messages on facebook. >> you touched my heart, were a special kind of angel. >> reporter: but the pain is impossible to escape. during our visit, a pair of shoes for the wedding that will never happen arrived by mail. she didn't share their name quite yet but the choinieres remembering her.

apparently speeding through the intersection, the car, so damaged. it was pinned and crushed underneath the front end of the bus. the driver had to be pried out with the jaws of life and is in the hospital. dashcam video from new jersey, look at that. that's a deer trying to get in the driver's seat of the car. that happened when the driver hit the deer. you can see as the patrol car actually pulls up, the deer returns and tries to jump into the d still inside. the woman struggled to fight the deer off but was able to get it out of the car and shut the door. we are to tell you that deer died from the injuries sustained when it hit the car. back here at home, not everyone is happy about the idea to build a stadium meant to bring the raiders to las vegas. in fact, the group nevadans for the common good released a report outlining what they called the hidden risks of the stadium deal. an oversight commit tee

of high level moisture near mount charleston and in the san bernardino county area, also in the southern portion of nevada, tiny, light showers. sprinkles if anything. we could see a few more pop-up showers in the next few hours. things are expected to continue to taper off overnight. these are phenomenal rain totals. barely a trace for most neighborhoods. we got love in summerli we'll take a look at some of the neighborhoods that got some of the most rain in just a second. you can see some light showers in the pahrump area. off-and-on cloud cover with light showers near lake mead with some thunderstorms developing there this afternoon. mostly high-level moisture, a few sprinkles at mount charleston and we started off with partly cloudy skies. you can see the clouds darkening as the afternoon progressed. a few light showers across town. you can see some up there.

rain not hitting the ground. that's called virga. 78 degrees for summerlin at the moment. checking in at 80 degrees for saint elizabeth. where earlier today, we got just -- barely any rain. that's our rain total for today. and also in henderson, getting a little bit of that precipitation. nothing too crazy. just some very light rain all across the area. the temperatures outside right now have cooled down quite a bit. mixture of 70s and 80s across the winds are also fairly light and will continue to be light through the rest of the evening. 5 for mount charleston, in the upper os for indian springs. low 80s for lake mead and 74 for pahrump. light winds also outside of the valley as well. like we talked about, it will get calmer overnight. slight chance of seeing those showers as we make our way into thursday. dry air will continue into friday and we're looking at pretty nice conditions as we get closer to the weekend. overnight temperatures will be very similar compared to last

92 on tap for overton. low 90s for lake mead. mid-60s at mount charleston, 88 degrees for pahrump and tonight in las vegas it's going to be a much calmer night. winds only up to 10 miles an hour. but will remain light throughout the rest of the evening. highs tomorrow, right around what we typically see this time of year. slight chance of seeing thunderstorms, maybe in the afternoon. light showers are personally possible. winds only up to 10 miles an hour. i'm looking ahead to the next fe diminishing as we make our way into thursday. friday we'll be drier and warmer with 91 in the forecast. after that, a second storm, this one's just going to be a wind storm. so no rain out of this system right here. but after the wind rolls in, it's also gonna knock down our temperatures. highs going to the low 80s next week. >> by october. >> yes. >> pretty cool? >> very fitting. >> wear a jacket. >> yay.

day after the shooting death of alfred olango, an of a man unarmed, killed. >> you just saw somebody tried to stop a car. the car sped ahead and the person hit the pavement. tension is high. you can hear the crowds' reaction there. so many people want an answer to the question his sister posed. she said, look, i was the one calling for help from an hour to show up. i needed your help and you shot my brother. didn't you have protocol to deal with somebody who was mentally ill? there's also the side of police who released that still photo showing him in what police are calling a shooting stance with an object. no object was found. but now people are reacting to the information. >> the police responded to the scene and described alfred olango as acting
