we're told they've managed to get several of the miners out. they're lowering the basket and lifting them out two or three at a time. they became trapped at about 10:20 last night when they were headed down to the mine floor about 2,300 feet below ground to begin their overnight shift. despite overnight temps in the teens the at the surface of the mine, the mine operator cargo says none of the trapped miners is injured and rescue workers have been able to lower down water, heat packs, and blankets to keep them all warm. unclear how long this operation might take to lift all of them out, but, again, we're hearing some of them already up. sash na, savannah, guys, back to you. >> tom costello, thank you. bad news for those waking up hoping to be a powerball winner. there were no winners. that means it rolls over until saturday night.
nbc's kerry sanders is back on powerball watch again. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. if you're waking up this morning and y y have go to work and you're sort of sad, this may cheer you up. take a look alt how much larger the jackpot is when they do the pull on saturday. $675 million. so before you take your tickets and rip them up because you lost, just take a look at the numbers that were pulled last night. so this would have been a record jackpot at $55050 million. it would have been the fourth largest jackpot. there was at least one winner, somebody who got a million on their ticket in the houston area. here are the numbers again. the powerball numbers are -- so n n winners there. the ticket-buying frenzy, as you said, will get even crazier. at one point yesterday when the

three tennessee high school studentstsre now facing charges of aggravated rape and aggravated assault for brutal alleged attacks on teammates during a hazing ritual. according to members of the ooltewah high school basketball team, four underclassman players were physically assaulted on december 22nd in a cabin where the team was staying during a tournament. one of those students, according toto the victim reports, was also sexually assaulted with a pool cue, receiving worse treatment because he spoke up to three of the players carrying out the attacks. the alleged attackers, two sophomores and one senior, have been kicked off the team, suspended from school, and charged. two are in custody. the freshman victim was released from the hospital after surgery and eight days of treatment. he's left the school. in a meeting wednesday night, hamilton county superintendent rick smith cancelled the
>> because this is an ongoigs investigation, i'm extremely limited in what i can say or communicate publicly. i am heartbroken aboututhis. >> reporter: more students are speaking out. four students telling investigators the incident was not isolated. part of a standing tradition called beating in. alleging previous hazing also occurred in the locker rooms on campus with the lights off. the alleged rape victims family calling for the coach to be fired. other students say the ritual existed before he was coach. the coach's attorney now denying those claims of a hazing culture. telling nbc affiliate wrcb, the issue affecting our community is not hazing or bullying. rather, it is the unilateral decision of three individuals currently charged with a sexual offense. sexual offenses must not be reduced to popular buzz words like hazing or bullying, ever. >> t of the juveniles charged in the case remain held, while one is out on bond. disturbing. >> really is. >> natalie, thank you very much.

string of outbreaks that has since sickened hundreds. it's even more bad news for a once famous fast food chain struggling through a seemingly unprecedented series of food-borne illnesses. chipotle announcing a grand jury subpoenaed documents relating to a norovirus outbreak last summer in simi valley, california. 207 people were sickened and some hospitalized. the victim attorney, bill marler. >> severe stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea. sometimes they need medical attention for rehydration. >> reporter: while a grand jury is looking into that outbreak, hundreds of others have been sickened in unrelated chipotle cases. including 53 people in nine states who became ill on an e. coli outbreak. another five in a separate e. coli outbreak. then 141 students in boston and yet another norovirus outbreak

i wanted to believe that that was a prop, but it was real. why did you push yourself to do that? it's not like anybody would think, boy, what a lazy performance. why? >> the native american actor that i was working with, hisarthur, and he was eating raw bison flesh during rehearsal. they gave me this pancake thing to eat but it didn't look authentic to me. i wanted the real thing. it was this giant liver that was incredibly disgusting. my reaction is very much up on screen, which is a nauseating one. >> fair to say, you've had your last bison liver? >> i'll never do that again. never do that again. >> there's another scene where you crawl inside the carcass of a horse. i just kept thinking about the theme of will to live. watching this film, there were
said, forget it. i'll lay down and give up. how did you tap into that in your character, that absolute relentless will to live? >> when i watched this movie for the first time, i said, my god, the perseverance of the human species, our adaptability, the ability of life to keep pushing forward in all adversity is amazing. it's kin of displayed in this movie in a way i haven't seen in a while. because we were trying our people's journeys. >> did you actually crawl inside the horse carcass, or please tell me there was a set piece. >> yeah, there was a set pete. >> thank you. i don't think i could take it. >> reporter: something that wasn't a set piece, dicaprio's beard. >> how long did it take to grow? >> four months or five months. but then i kept it for like a year and a half. i lived with that thing for a long time.

limited relief early next week. see graphics. >> . >> a man being sought by authorities in northeast nebraska was critically wounded when he shot himself as authorities moved in on him. law officers caught up with 25-year-old david hoffman yesterday afternoon on the santee sioux indian reservation. that's when he reportedly turned the gun on himself. hoffman had been the focus of an intense manhunt since tuesday afternoon when a niobrara police officer tried to arrest him on warrants for burglay and theft. hoffman grabbed the officer's gun and fled on foot. niobrara schools and some businesses were locked down. niobrara state park was also closed while officers searched cabins and other buildings. the fbi says it will have more to say about the shooting on the santee reservation later. here's ben with the forecast.
