community whether it was at his youth group or a memorial for 9/11 you could walk up and down the street, and i know people say this a lot when there's a tragedy, but i really mean this when i say this about jon; you could walk up and down the street and you will not find a person in this community that'll have a bad thing to say about that guy sioux steel ceo ryan rysdon says the company is continuing to pay for counseling for employees. he also says they gave employees 3 different ways to mark the event in hopes of promoting the healing process. two fifteen year old females were shot and killed at a phoenix area high school this morning. independence high school in glendale remained on lockdown late into the afternoon. both girls had one gunshot wound ... and a gun was found between them police do not believe there are outstanding suspects. they do not know what relationship, if any, the girls had. omaha police are in a standoff with a man barricaded inside a west omaha home. a spokesperson at the scene says a man

shot, and that his girlfriend was being held hostage. authorities are trying to establish who is in the house and how many people are involved. a sioux city man accused of impersonating a police officer and inappropriately touching young girls has been sentenced to seven years in prison. 31-year-old joey alberts pleaded guilty to enticing away a minor, indecent contact with a child and three counts of impersonating a public official. according to court documents, alberts was arrested in march of 20-14 after authorities say he approached girls, telling them he was a police officer. alberts was accused of inappropriately touching two 13-year old girls on separate occasions. he must register as a sex offender upon release from prison. (sheila) a bill that would repeal south dakota's death penalty has been shot down. (matt) ktiv's tiffany lane spoke with one of the law makers behind the proposal. tiffany? matt and sheila, the bill's main sponsor is republican senator arthur rusch of vermillion. on wednesday, the south dakota senate state affairs committee met to review the proposal.

death penalty case. rusch told the committee wednesday that he's seen first-hand how costly and hard it was on jurors and court personnel. across of the death penalty trial is somebody in prison," said state senator arthur rusch of vermillion. "and another one of the reasons is that the appeals go on indefinitely." rusch further says death penalty cases are unfairly taxing on county governments and he doesn't believe the punishment is an effective crime deterrent. today, some south dakota residents were divided over the death penalty in the state. "the thing that i find so interesting is the parallel that we're in a republican state that's predominantly pro-life," said vermillion, south dakota. "and so the second that you bring up the idea of the death penalty, people are no longer pro-life. they're willing to take away the sanctity of life because somebody committed a crime." extreme situations such as maybe mass murder, like terrorism, where you know

reasonable doubt did it." the bill was voted down six to three. last year, the same committee voted down two measures to repeal or limit the death penalty. matt and sheila? a piece of machinery is to blame for a fire inside a local business. the fire occured at 5- 22 floyd boulevard inside select parts. fire officials say the fire sparked from a piece of equipment used to clean parts. officials say metals shavings from inside the unite combined with dust particles and ignited the fire. "fire personal opened the unit up and use a fire extinguisher designed for metal fires and were able to quickly extinguish the fire," said lt. ryan collins, sioux city fire prevention bureau. officials say no one was injured and no damage was made to the building. (matt) a massive fire at a new jersey warehouse that has been burning since thursday has finally been contained. the fire burned out of control for nearly 20 hours and generated so much smoke that it was detected by weather radar and forced some school closures.

this afternoon as fire crews continued to pour water on hot spots. strong winds fueled the fire and cold temperatures led to problems with freezing water. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. (sheila) we saw the sun today, but it looks like the snow could be moving back in. (matt) chief meteorlogist ron demers joins us with our first look at the forecast at 5. wind chill advisory in effect for northeastern siouxland from 6 pm friday through 9 am saturday while the sun was a site to behold for many today, it did nothing to help temperatures as highs were 10 to 15 degrees below average for this time of year. that chill continues tonight when lows will dip below zero and with a little bit of wind northeastern siouxland could see wind chills colder than -20 which is why those areas will be in a wind chill advisory into saturday morning. clouds move back in for our saturday with a chance of a little bit of light snow with better chances of snow by saturday

for south carolina. audio outcue: "brian mooar, nbc news, washington." >> ted cruz's presidential campaign has pulled an attack ad against rival marco rubio.. after it was revealed it included a former adult film actress. in the former spot.. titled "conservatives anonymous"...actors portraying therapy session circle and discuss their regrets for previously supporting rubio. one of those actors is amy lindsay.. who has a background appearing in softcore porn films. the cruz campaign released a statement to nbc news saying her background was not properly vetted by a casting agency.. after she passed an open casting call. they say lindsay would never have been included in the spot had they been aware of her professional background. u-s airlines will soon bid to win routes to cuba. starting tuesday, u.s. carriers will have 15 days to submit applications to the department of transportation. the development brings airlines and travelers a step closer to scheduled flights between the two countries for the first time in over 50 years.

valentine's day (patrick sullivan, bought a billboard) "she tells us just write me a note or a card." but he had something different in mind this year. (patrick sullivan, bought a billboard) "when i was driving north on emerson avenue i saw these billboards and i thought hmmm that would make a really nice big valentine's card, you know." (patricia sullivan, wife) "i think he really went overboard i have the biggest card i guess i could say." pat surprised patty with the billboard this week. it reads... pat and patty forever... 27 years and counting... you complete me.. love pat. (patricia sullivan, wife) "and i just started gasping and crying just like oh my gosh i can't beleive it." (patrick sullivan, bought a billboard) "she just started crying and she just totally lost it and it was really exciting that's what i wanted to surprise her and let her know how special she is and let her know that these 27 years have been great for me."

(patricia sullivan, wife) "we just take it day by day and just try to love each other and show each other that and communicate. i don't know how he's going to top it and i don't know really what i'm going to do for him, so." >> pat says he picked the location because it's on their drive into work, so she can see it every day for the next month. the foodbank of siouxland received a generous donation from a local business today. at&t iowa donated a 2,500 dollar check to the non-profit to aid with hunger across the area. senator bill anderson as well as other area officials were present to deliver the check. the money will assist in funding programs that the food bank is involved in. organizers say this will be a much appreciated contribution. "we can acquire nearly 13 pounds of food for one dollar, so a donation of this size is going to go a really long way and make sure no one in siouxland goes hungry," said linda scheid, executive director

anderson says that he's excited to work with at&t and the foodbank for those less fortunate in the community. '"but i know linda, and i know her commitment, and i know what she can do with 2,500 dollars. we're going to see a lot people's needs met here in the sioulxand area. it's great to be here today and great to be supporting the foodbank," said senator bill anderson. this donation will make it possible to give out 32,000 pounds of food to help fight hunger across the region. ce sunny day across siouxland. but, more snow could be coming our way. ron's full forecast is coming up after the break.

winter weather is moving across the country to start the weekend. (matt) in des moines iowa, winds gusted over 20 miles-per- hour causing the light snow to blow and creating dangerous wind chills. the national weather service says the cold air mass will make temperatures feel 30-below. the snow and winds are expected to continue through sunday. when we come back....plannin g on seeing a movie this valentine's day weekend? we'll take a look at what's hitting the box office...
