las vegas is hosting one of the biggest news years celebrations in the country.... ....and safety is on everyones minds. hassan is live on strip with a look at some of the preparations already underway. first responders say they are doing everything possible to make sure everything does off without a hitch - and everyone stays safe.. firefighters and paramedics are also adding extra staff today. they are expecting these next 24 hours to be much busier than any other day of the year. we are talking about 300-thousand people on the strip. that means everywhere is going to be packed... ....but they are prepared. deputy chief jeff buchanan clark county fire department 220.127.116.11 0 "there are going to be 10 extra rescues, which people recognize as ambulance again there will be extra
in and around the strip. to make roomomfor all the first responders, metro, the national guard, and of course - hundreds of thousands of people, barriers are going up later today. you will no be able to access the strip starting at russell - all the way up to sahara. barriers will be up just before 6 tonight... ....and then the strip itself will be closed to vehicles starting at 6- thirty. live from the strip, yasmeen hassan channel 13 action news, while metro and all the hotels ramp- up security for the celebrations, a facebook post is getting people a little riled up. the poster says it's a screenshot of a text message from a friend who's a police officer.. warning her there is a credible threat to the las vegas area and it's being investigated by the fbi and homeland security. so we asked metro if there's any truth to it. we received a statement saying.. quote: "it is unfortunate that someone chose to post highly flammable information sent via a text message. we have received no credible information about threats to our city." join us right here on channel

the man who police think is responsible is behind bars this morning. we brought you this story as it was breaking yesterday on good morning las vegas. police came out to a stabbing near swenson and twain and found a bloody knife in the street. police say the man responsible and the victim both had a relationship with the same woman at one point. they had been yelling at each other for some time before one man pulled a knife. security guard who ultimately caught the accused stabber. a u-n-l-v student described by friends as "quiet" is now behind bars this morning accused of killing his own father. 21-year-old eugene tshiyombo allegedly shot and killed his father on sunday in henderson near green valley and paseo verde. we're learning from his friends that his dad was former military and a stt so much so.. his son reportedly couldn't have a smart phone and had to stop taking part in after school events because they ran too late at night.
