into cars on the northwest side of the valley. we'll have the latest from the breaking news center. good morning las vegas i'm beth fisher...and we want to welcome todd quinones to the team this morning! happy to be here...and happy martin luther king junior day...we'll have details on road closures from the parade all morning...but first let's get to breaking news dayna has been following. we want to tell you about two stories breaking overnight... the first happened just before midnight near las vegas boulevard and serene. when witneeses say a man was threatening to blow up an apartment complex. officers found that man shot... but they didn't find the shooters. the bomb squad was called in but determined a suspicious device was not an explosive. 10 to 15 people did have to be just after midnight...police say someone was trying to break to find the man they were looking for. he's in custody this morning. and just in... an ohio police officer -- shot and killed in the line of duty... we are just getting the name and picture of that officer. i'll have more details coming
but first...let's get over to greg bennett with a check on your monday morning forecast, greg? we are continuing to deal with a cold front pattern that develops within the pacific northwest and shifts east/southeast through southern nevada. today we have a small chance for showers within the valley with much better chances around high elevations such as red rock and the spring and sheep mountain ranges. our window really lies within the morning and then builds and ice with accumulations predicted be between a trace and half an inch. for the valley, mainly cloudy skies will be common with high temperatures within the lower 60s. winds will be mild within the temperatures drop slightly to the upper 50s and then rebound fast to the low and mid 60s by wednesday. within the low and mid 60s. cottrell)-vo an ohio police officer -- shot
statewide alert after the officer and police cruiser went missing around midnight. investigators found his hat, covered in blood, but could not find his patrol car. cottrell was later found shot outside the danville municipal building. a male and female reportedly now in custody. mention location of danville a woman is dead this morning after being hit by car while crossing the street. witnesses describe the horrific scene...and how paramedics tried to save her it's an interview you'll only see on action news.. "he turned around and he saw from the middle of the cross that she was under the tires." "a lot of people got out from their cars and try to help the person." "they were trying to revive her with their hands doing the cpr (it was going on for a while) yea probably for me it was going on for 10 minutes." this crash happened around 6 last night...
police said the woman was outside of a marked crosswalk. witnesses told investigators the woman stepped in front of cars. at this point....investigator s dont believe speed or alcohol were factors. we're told the driver pulled over in a nearby parking lot and is cooperating. now to an action news update on a deadly drunk driving case. the man charged with causing a deadly crash that killed two women last christmas eve is expected to be sentenced tomorrow. police say ray diok-no ..was speeding when he ran a red light near cheyenne and hualapai. two women died in that crash...they were an 81-year old woman and her 63- year old daughter. right now...the search is on for twelve u-s marines who went missing off the coast of hawaii thursday. rescuers are expanding their search this morning. the marines vanished flying in two helicopters that apparently collided off the island of oahu. this all happened during a training flight. officials say they have found some debris consistent with the type of missing helicopters. the coast guard is bringing in
to help in the search. that big walmart announcement about stores closing hits las vegas shoppers hard. the store near nellis and craig closed for good last night in what the company is calling a "business decision". longtime shoppers had mixed opinions. some people complain that losing the store will make their lives more inconvenient. a walmart spokesperson says the company will help the 3-hundred and 50 employees to transfer to other store locations...or receive severance packages. :10-:15 welcome martin luther king to the speaker's podium..the man who represents a symbol of all they are speaker's podium..the man who represents a symbol of all they are fighting for applause today we honor the life and legacy of doctor martin luther king junior. right here in the valley we'll celebrate with the 34th annual parade in downtown las vegas. the parade will be full of floats...marching bands..dancers and motorcades. this is video from last year's event. it starts at 10 a-m on fourth
ogden where the parade ends. and there will be some road closures starting at 6 a-m this morning....jessica janner is tracking all of that for us right now. if you're planning on heading up to mount charleston this morning to celebrate the holiday...you might want to leave early. n-h-p is warning they may have to turn people away again today! this was the scene yesterday... around 1:30 troppers turned away vehicles. n-h-p wrote more than 70 citations for illegal parking. hundreds of cars parked on the shoulder of the roads leading up to kyle and lee canyon. illegal parking wasn't the only issue. nearly 50 cars had to be dug out of the snow after parking on the side of the road. to try and handle crowds this holiday weekend...n-h-p has seven troppers on the mountain instead of the usual two. if you have monday off... you may want to consider.... heading to red rock canyon! admission is free because of the martin luther king jr holiday! but...you do have to pay for overnight camping and group day use.

americans went missing in iraq. the state department is working with the iraqi government to find them...and one u-s official says they're treating this situation as a possible kidnapping. another u-s official says they believe the three american contractors went missing south of baghdad. possibly on their way to baghdad international airport. but an iraqi security official with knowledge of the case is saying the men were grabbed by a ground of gunmen from an apartment in baghdad. the u-s embassy has not identified the contractors and they're not saying exactly what they were doing in iraq in the first place... the water crisis in flint michigan is getting national attention. civil rights activist reverend jesse jackson says this is much more than an emergency. jackson held a town hall rally in flint yesterday calling for justice and clean water. he chose to come to flint because of martin luther king junior's birthday. maybe there should be duct tape around the city because flint is a crime scene." this all started in april 20-14. in an effort to save money... flint started taking water from
relying on water from detroit. in september of last year...the governor finally admitted there was a problem with lead in the water. now..the city of flint is in a state of emergency and federal officials are investigating. time now is x:xx --- this is the worst storm that i've ever been in in 43 years, but you live and move on, that's all. a devastating scene in florida this morning. the area is used to hurricanes...but when a tornado hit it was a much different story. democratic hopefuls took to the debate stage last night...with the iowa caucus coming up bernie sanders took every opportunity to prove he could be the new front runner.
